As mentioned previously a Bulgarian 'white van man' clouted my n/s/f wing a few weeks ago... graunched the wheel and cut the tyre.. many of you will have seen the minor bump on my wing at variuos events recently.. no witnesses, so insurers will treat as 'knock for knock'... I told my Toyo body shop that a new Rota wheel was about £160 and an F1 Eagle tyre about £140, adding £300 to their estimate.. .. they priced the job at £1,670 plus VAT! A total of two grand ! ... by happenstance I came across a local franchisee for 'Auto Restore' - their transit vans have a false roof which becomes the top of a portable, fully kitted spray booth.... bloody clever! Quoted price? Less than £200..... More details by PM. Spec K

Steve, saw your car last Thursday at Fensport... ... that's one heck of a turbo... Spec K -
Great stuff Jay! I can't wait to have a try.... I had a complete brake revamp at Fensport yesterday - new pads, fluid and overhaul, including a 'tweak' which we feel will make a difference.. still bedding in but they feel 100% better... Prestcott, here we come! I am looking to fabricate air ducting to the front disks but to get what I would like requires modifying the foglight bezels to provide the intake... anyone know a really switched-on 3D plastics printer to design/make customised parts? (Please note - "whizzy bit" is the technical name,,,,) Spec K

James, you can run the standard exhaust manifold (with or without cats) with a s/charger but obviously with a turbo it's a complete exhaust manifold (not catted) plus the whizzy bit and then the overpipe.. ... if you wish to stay MOT emissions legal you will need an HFC, ideally with a minimum spec of 200 CEL, if turbo'd. Obviously I'm far too honest for the s/hand car game.... Spec K

Keethos' GT86 Journey Back To Health + Mods
Special K replied to Keethos's topic in Projects & Builds
Keith - I think you would be wise to consider acquiring a small runaround, preferably an estate, for a short period.. Your car will most definitely be in the bodyshop for 1/2 weeks and, whilst I'm sure RRG will assist with a courtesy car if they can, a cheapo Mondeo estate or similar could be a godsend, both for collecting bits during the run-up to transmogrification and, if c/c's are in short supply at Macc you won't be left high and dry... ... merely my two penn'orth.... Spec K -
Err.... I think I would have PM'd that advice, Rob..... Spec K

Steve - did you not fit the (prototype) de-catted standard manifold when you fitted your HFC? Spec K

BHP Performance Show - 5th May 2014
Special K replied to will300's topic in Meets/Show & Shine - Pictures & Videos
As you say, a great little track. But it does have teeth and will bite the unwary. Great news to hear that BHP is looking at Brands for next year... that'll virtually solve the queuing problem at one hit but I think the costs for Brands will make the fees quite a bit higher.... Spec K -
Jo - welcome! Does your hubby drive? The reason I ask is that we have a long-time competitor in the Toyota Sprint Series who's confined to a wheelchair/mobility scooter... not in the GT86 class but he's far too quick for me! Grrr... Roz (my disabled neice in Cumbria, been on a few socials around the wilds of Yorkshire with the Club) comes with me in my car when I'm up there (Da Vinci fold down wheelchair, no problem!) and I give her a 'blast'.. She whacks me! And all that wheel pushing builds muscles! Ouch! - might as well be at home with the frypan... Spec K

Matt - a few of us are doing the Prestcott Hillclimb on Sunday 01 June (GT4OC meeting). Why not pop along and introduce yourself? Pitman, Jamie and I are there.. plus Adrian from Fensport. Spec K

Yes. But have *YOU* spent good money on decent pads? Have you, personally, tried slotted/drilled disks? We are not Merkinland, different roads/atmosphere (apart from their pollution on the Gulf Stream)/driving style. And a completely different culture in regards to show/shine/pimp my ride.. Steve - it is easy to spout rhetoric without personal experience and most - if not all - who should discuss brakes/disks should be talking from experience. Preferably on a GT86, not on a Ford/Frump/Gizmo... I'm not ".. having a go.." at you - but I find Merkin GT86 rhetoric full of verbiage... that's silage with verbs, by the way... Fly a dozen of their finest over here and they'd be completely bamboozled at a half-decent sprint/racetrack.. ... jeez, they run on octane fuel I wouldn't use in my lawnmower.. CSG? A word of advice, Cris - the Koni adjustables are good, but require 'manual' adjustment with a knurled knob which goes on the top of the shock absorber, so you cannot change your settings whilst on the move, you have to stop and change them. It is a pain in the nether region, in my opinion. Neither BMW/Merc/Aston/Lexus allow such nonsense... even 1980's Jags had 'onboard suspension adjustment' and before them 1970's Citroens... Koni has, in my opinion, totally lost the plot.. The Tein Active system allows you to change your settings on the move - but you have to get used to the sound of the stepper motors changing your dampers on speed/g-force changes.. this cannot be heard from the front motors but you can hear the canary in the rear of the GT86... You can also 'pre-programme' and choose soft road/hard road/ track (or anything in between) at any time by pushing a button... for elderly gentlemen such as you, Pitman and me these things are worthy of serious considering... for young turks like Lauren it's a piece of cake... and the 'knowledge-base' for GT86's is increasing every day, with Tein UK (Yukiko) really keen to develop and help the Club drivers. We are the only 'make' which has a specified setup for rebound "shimming", diagnosed and evaluated by Fensport, agreed by Tein UK, tried by Tein Japan and now (I believe) a 'standard option' worldwide! And I never got a brass farthing out of my wheel being the testbed! Outrageous! Can you see Koni (or even Bilstein/Ohlins) reacting on client feedback like that? My advice? Save up your pocket money and go for the 'proper job'.. this is not specific to track, this is a huge comfort-factor on normal roads, in my opinion.. Come and have a ride in mine before you decide.. You do like to let your rear end wiggle, Lauren... I'm sure there's an indecency law against it... Spec K -
An elderly TSS competitor, having finished his timed runs, walks into the Clubhouse restaurant and espies the menu - " Tea - £1 / Coffee - £2 " " Beefburger - £3.50 " " Cheeseburger - £4.00" " Chicken Sandwich - £4.50 " " Very Personal Massage - £100 " He carefully checks his wallet to ensure he has enough money, then makes his was to the counter where a young, curvaceous and scantily clad female glides over to him and, with a sexy knowing smile says " Can I serve you, sir?" The old driver leans over the bar and whispers " I was wondering young lady, are you the one who gives the 'very personal massage' around here?" She looks into his wrinkled old eyes and with a wide smile purrs " Yes sir, I sure am...." So he leans in even closer and into her left ear says softly - "Well then, be sure to wash your hands real good, because I want a cheeseburger.." Spec K

Tyres won't invalidate your warranty, Matt... nor would wheels or exhaust, which seem to be the most common choice for personalising... from memory 20k a year is about the same as Lauren's mileage.. fun, fun, fun !! Spec K
