Keethos' GT86 Journey Back To Health + Mods
Special K replied to Keethos's topic in Projects & Builds
Frankly I think we are (uniquely) fortunate in having RRG as committed support dealership. There's Keethos, bashing off to find bits and pieces as cheaply as possible and, push comes to shove, a "body shop" has to bring it all together... There is only one... Thanks to Lauren/Alec for 'introducing' RRG to this band of happy bunnies... may RRG take over all UK Toyo dealers and bring their exceptional 'force' into play.. Spec K -
Why 35 profile? (I think I know why! but you should explain your logic, Cris!) Spec K

Too much theory (in my opinion) Steve, ... better to give experience than rhetoric. Spec K

Great stuff! Impressed when Cris put his foot down and out-accelerated you on the straight... he merely needs a bit more racecraft tuition around corners and he should blow us all off into the weeds! Spec K -
Zen... all good things are worth waiting for... .... except your new GT86, which must have NOW ! Joy and exaltation beckons.... Spec K

Chris, I'd go with a lot that Lauren suggests. Especially as, with forced induction, you cannot 'slam the throttle open', that extra power will bite you. You need to roll your foot off the brake pedal and ease the throttle open... feed more power in gently !! I am now running 17" x 9" all round fitted Michelin Sport 3 245/40R/17. (Previously I was running 17" x 8" fitted Goodyear F1 Eagle 225/45/17). I've gone for Sport 3's following LFA's experiences of them and following/watching the Ginettas around the Indy circuit at the RMA Brands Trackday (it's their 'regulated' tyre for the Ginetta Cup) My feeling on my new setup (after Barkston Heath) is that this is too much tyre for the rim, I should have gone for 235 section - or for 9.5" rims. Reason? The side walls are presently vertical and 'squirm' on cornering - I run them at 28psi cold, 32psi hot - yes, one can put more air in them but then the tread contact and ride is compromised with a domed profile. The car would, I think, feel more stable with tyre walls that were, like Lauren's, wider at the rim than at the tread (although her 215 on 8" is extreme, in my opinion..!) Hopefully Lauren, and possibly Adrian, will be trying my car on the current setup at the Blyton Park Trackday in June so I'll find out if others agree with me.. if so, it's off to A&S Tyres for a set of 235's.. ... on your staggered setup I'd go 235 profile on the front, 245 profile on the rear. Your 18" rims demand low profile walls, so you should certainly feel the difference on turn in.. and don't inflate them too much, I've spend hours trying different pressures on non-Primacy tyres, from 27psi - 37psi (hot) and the difference is significant. Good on you, Keith... all sounding really positive, mate! Hope that all the subframe work is simple/cheap and you can source bits at the right price.. Spec K -
Hi Peter and welcome, not only to this Club but to the 'elite' turbo division..! ... the ' banzai brigade', the 'Fensport Freespirits'... that's one helluva journey, you must be really keen! Did you get brakes? With 19" rims the std calipers/disks will look tiny, yes? Spec K

Murphy, a furniture dealer, decided to expand the range of furniture in his store, so he decided to go to Paris to see what he could find. After arriving in Paris he visited some manufcturers and selected a line that he thought would sell well back at home. To celebrate the new acquisition, he decided to visit a small bistro and have a glass of wine. As he sat enjoying his wine, he noticed that the small place was quite crowded and that the other chair at his table was the only vacant seat in the house. Before long, a very beautiful young Parisien girl came to his table, asked him something in French (which Murphy could not understand), so he motioned to the vacant chair and invited her to sit down. He tried to speak with her in English but she did not speak the language. After a couple of minutes trying to communicate with her, he took a napkin, drew a picture of a wine glass and showed it to her. She nodded, so he ordered her a glass of wine. After sitting at the table together for a while, he took another napkin, drew a picture with a plate of food on it and again she nodded. They left the bistro and found a quiet cafe that featured a small group playing romantic music. They ordered dinner, after which Murphy took another napkin and drew a picture of a couple dancing. She nodded and they got up to dance. They danced until the cafe closed and the the band was packing up. Back at their table, the young lady took a napkin and drew a picture of a four-poster bed.... ... to this day, Murphy has no idea how she figured out he was in the furniture business... Spec K

Same here. Like Forge I'm using Stoptech rotors/DS2500 all round. Squeak like blazes in reverse off my drive every morning and 'graunch' immediately after a wash/valet (just burning off the rust, I reckon - goes within a couple of hard dabs). Big improvement for me was going for Castrol race brake fluid (RSF?). Needs changing mebbe every six months with excessive heat/track use but gives a much better pedal feel. Not cheap though.. Spec K

Keith - I use concentric hub spacers with OEM rims/winter tyres, I think they're 20mm. Reason? car looks stupidly skinny without them.. can't say I notice any difference in handling but I took the winters off after a couple of weeks, not cold enough and they were wearing out! ... like Lauren I've stayed with 17" rims as I'm not keen on the road performance of ultra low profile rubber on our lightweigh cars (despite TRD preferences). My view is that the only good reason for fitting 18" is to allow for AP Racing brakes... standard brakes with 18" rims look decidely small.. ymmv. Spec K

James - I don't think the variance between a 2.5" - 3" exhaust will change any warranty issues. Not any more than a s/c will affect, anyway.. Certainly go for a decat manifold - Mark prototyped this on my car, then sold the manifold to Steve (Knightryder) when I went turbo. Keep a secondary cat, preferably high flow minimum 200 cel, to maintain your MOT emissions worthiness. Give you a much cleaner exhaust flow. Spec K -
Rob - what rubber are you fitting? (Fercrissake, not Primacy's....) Spec K

I overfilled my expansion chamber (with water - can't really be arsed with coolant that's more expensive than oil..). It expands and spits out of the plastic lid - makes a mess down the inside of the rad and on the electric fans.... gonna get a power washer on it.. Spec K
