Brembo STi Front Brake Kit Fitted

Stock wheels require a 20mm spacer to fit behind. Not to bad as this would actually bring the OEM wheels out to sit flush with my arch with a 35mm drop... I have no plans to switch back to OEM wheel soon though! Yeah, you can't feel it to be honest. The only time you do notice it is locking up. The fronts lock and can feel the car eager on the front. But really don't think it's a problem. And TBH I could spend quite a bit more on better rear pads which might improve. The limiting factor now are the primacy tyres though!

Great thread this! Shows the real support and community we have over here! I'd be up for donating some bits to help! Maybe we should set up a dedicated funding page / paypal people can just put 'tip bits' into? This has definitely made my mind up that this club is the best!

Avo Turbo No 11 all the way from Hungary :)

Awesome. Nice work! Looks so good! Interesting wireing going on in the Map Time Picture! Are the wheels 18" or 19"?
  4. Looking for someone who has 2 nearly new Primacy Tyres?

    OEM Primacy Tyres x 2

Yeah. I thought that was the case. There's enough on ebay. Just thought i'd ask here first.

    OEM Primacy Tyres x 2

Ideally I want to buy 2 or 4. If not i've got to find someone else willing to sell 1. I've got 2 new ones, just need another 2 so I can change them all at once before summer.

Did you actually just compare our GT86 Road Brakes to Full Carbon F1 Discs that probably cost more than our entire car? I agree a £2500 Solid Carbon Ceramic Disc fitted to a McLaren P1 is probably better than a £150 slotted disc fitted to my GT86. Anyway. What we've discovered is there are many setups depending on budget and personal opinion. I think thats job done for this thread.

Absolutely I agree. But to outright say Slotted discs will be no benefit over solid discs is jumping the gun in my opinion. If that was true slotted discs would not exist. I like the fact we can all share experiences and opinions. But giving a single opinion and not exploring others is a little narrow-minded. One setup will work for some people, others will work well for many people. Some people don't have the need for extreme brake pads. Or the money. Also some people will be modding for fast-road not 24 hour laps of spa.

Me too! Although it's more certain forum members that seem to always want to argue that make me wanting to stop coming on....

I've never attributed the Increase to just pads. The discussion was about brake bias. And options. I stated ive not had any problem since fitting my setup. Not that its absolutely discs that have improved. And I never said non slotted discs would be bad. Read the reviews slotted discs are have a benefit. They're no more expensive All I was doing was recconending slotted discs as I've not had any problems....

Fensport will probably be doing the work I've got Steel Lines to go on too at the same time. But i'll certainly do a write up / photos.

For me it's a mixture of both. I want good performing brakes and the looks to go with it. A bug of mine has always been the brakes under open wheels. OEM wheels aren't to bad but they just look awful under a set of open spoke wheels. Especially 18" I agree with not going for a cheap New Big Brake Kit! But I've gone for the WRX Brembo Kit. Which is fitted to 2008 Imprezza with 300bhp+. So they're not going to be terrible. They're going to be better than stock. And they give me the better look / size i'm after under 18" wheels. Steve - Currently the Brembo Kit isn't fitted. So has nothing to do with better braking i've experienced. I don't hate the stock setup and think it does very wheel on track. Like Lauren my fronts where smoking after the track session and so where Chris's. For me changing to the WRX Brembo kit is more about looks whilst offering something of similar or better than stock. It was originally a very expensive optional extra on new Imprezzas. Over 1k so it's not going to be a terrible setup.
  14. Glad it only looks like Body panel damage! At least the chassis and car is still usable! Might be worth going for some aftermarket parts for things like the head lamps? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FT86-FT-86-GT86-86-ZN6-CCFL-Angel-Eye-Projector-Headlight-BLACK-US-Type-TOYOTA-/331166345323?_trksid=p2054897.l4275 Might be hell of a lot cheaper than ordering bits from Toyota? And improve the look potentially at the same time? I know a few FRS guys in the US have fitted Aftermarket JDM bits to get the Daytime LEDs that we have. Again glad you're okay and the metal is on the mend!

Maybe that's the case. All I know is with the stock setup back roads from Norwich to Loddon caused issues and serious brake fade. Now with slotted discs the issues I experiences have gone. Don't care if it's down to heat dissipation, gas build up or Magic Fairies. Spent about 3 months researching the brake setups. Slotted aren't any more expensive over solid discs. And In my experience and now solved my brake fade issue. Therefor in my eyes slotted discs are worth it.

Of course. Pad material on the disc isn't bad. That increases bite. But excess gas build up between the pad is whats bad. Anyway it's the same as winter tyres I think. personal preference on your situation. I've opted for the STI brake setup as I want the cosmetic benefit but not serious braking. And not by spending £4k+ all round.

Ebay. You need WRX / STI Brembo Kit for the front. and 2008+ brembo kit for the back. But it's unsure how much fits etc. I've ordered kits. to find out. You're still talking £400 just for front calipers. But a damn sight cheaper than a BBK for GT86. Rears are a little more difficult. They're 4 Pot Brembo Calipers. A couple of images for idea. http://www.tune86.com/sites/default/files/pictures_photos/2013/02/do_boy_scion_frs_07.jpg http://cdn.mkimg.carview.co.jp/minkara/usercar/000/001/104/476/1104476/p2.jpg?ct=884f1fb1d2c4 And remember you need good discs and pads with that caliper kit! Caliper itself isn't that important. I'm only doing caliper upgrade for looks and to fill my wheels a little more! They're 326mm discs over 290mm stock.

If you want looks with better stopping power do what i'm currently doing and that's fit the 2008 WRX Brembo Kit to it. Pretty much bolt on replacement. Bigger discs. Much nicer calipers and will fill alloys better.

There's a reason why nearly every single Big Brake Kit and Race car has slotted discs though. No matter how good the pad there will be dust and gases generated under heavy braking. So whilst a solid disc will probably be fine in 90% of road uses, I think if you plan to take it on track. You'd want slotted to prevent glazing of the pads. All depends how you use your brakes.

There have been stories of due to the heating and cooling moisture in tiny cracks / manafacturing defects can cause the disc to fail all together under extreme conditons. I've also known somebody discs shattering due to a frosty morning! I don't think it's a problem if you spend money on top end drilled discs. But wouldn't touch cheaper drilled discs.

I'd say good pads are more important than anything. Look at the chemical compound makeup of the pad. Something like performance Friction or Stop tech will be great. I went slotted / dimpled disc to stop pads from glazing. Couple of stretches of roads round my way that used to cook the brakes to the point that they were unsafe on stock setup. Slotted discs stop the pads from glazing and allow the gases to escape on long brake periods. Since I've had slotted discs haven't had any problem. Ran them for 15 minutes constant at Lydden hill and felt no brake fade or weakness. They may have been smoking a bit when I came off but still felt strong. Although saying that I've just ordered the Brembo Front BBK. As after seeing Pitman's and Keith's setup want to fill my wheels out a little bit. Got plans to go 18" in the summer and want to fill the wheels a bit more. But even then i'm probably only going to go with the Stoptech Rear and Stoptech Pads on the rear. For now.

    Changing discs and pads

Keith, my non-OEM ones didn't have them on all either. But had no issues so far. One thing I did notice was the inner pad was slightly different to outer in that the nibbles were in a slightly different place on the outer two to stop the caliper from sitting on them. Make sure the piston and the front of the caliper is sitting flush with the pad and not on a raised nibble.
