  1. My one is right angles towards the center console. Which to me is perfect. It's small and fits in the OBD port above the plastic work so you can't kick it or knock it. Then cabled tied in place running into the center console. Can't see it at all. You can porbably get them on ebay. Just search 'OBD extension'.
  2. What i've done with mine is fitted a right angle OBD extention. Put that behind the dash. So the permanent OBD ELM327 adapter is hidden and just a right angle from the OBD port. You could do the same. Then put the splitter and everything behind the dash. Having the dash and head unit out you'll see you've got enough room to hide a small person behind there! Plenty of room for whatever you want.
  3. Apparently you can. You can get cheap splitters and should work. Turning the PC on and off is easy and either just unplugging it when you don't want it in use. Or using the shutdown menu. You could also wire the pc into the battery ignition so it just turns on and off with the car. I need to do some more research into that as it could corrupt data. I'm still going to play with both options and try and get a boot time down. Music side of it is nearly there but again need to do some more coding and a little more experimenting.

Why do people lie about mods?

Yeah! And everyone at my local dealership has seen and had a go in it! And they still replace 3 things under warranty. So that's not a problem!

I'm completely stock. Don't know what you're talking about.
  6. Much better rob. Before it was because i'd kinda of used Ethernet cable wedged in the slots and bits of insulation tape to hold it in place to prove the concept! Now it's nice pins and proper cables. No flicker at all under normal use. Slightly visible on full black screen. But that's a PAL signal trait. Toyota didn't spend too much money on the Display in the Touch Unit, that's for sure! My plan is to get some better video tonight / tomorrow.
  7. Got some updates on this: After having some serious problems with the wiring, Sat Nav and power side of things I decided to remove everything from my car and start again from what i'd learnt and some new ideas. The biggest problem was boot time! Originally you get in the car and start the engine and the PC starts to boot. The problem with this is the time it takes to boot! By the time it's booted and loaded all the software and drivers you're 3 miles down the road! Not great for track days where you start and stop. The other problem being if you have the ignition on the PC boots. If you then start the car it drops power and reboots! Useless! Even with some hacking about and making a custom Android ROM it still was around 30 - 40 seconds to boot. What I've done now is powered the PC from the permanent battery. But in between the battery and Android PC there is now a circuit which monitors the battery level and ensures the PC can't ever drain the battery to a point where the car won't start! So regardless of the car's state, off, ignition or start up the Android PC is always running and ready to receive ECU parameters! I've tested the circuit and as a daily driver it's safe to run the Android pc all day. My car has been sitting for over 15 hours and still started without hesitation! With only a minor voltage drop. If your car does sit around for weeks, the circuit will turn the PC off to prevent drainage. Either by time it's been inactive or by battery voltage drop. So what this means is that by the time the head unit is powered on and past the Toyota Logo the Telemetry is displaying on the unit. I've made a quick and crude iPhone video to demonstrate... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qLL7OTAuWI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qLL7OTAuWI Going to run it for a couple more days in my car and then make more improvements. My goal is to make it 100% autonomous with no user input needed. I am 1 plug away from completing a plug and play harness! It's almost impossible to source 28pin / 10pin Toyota plugs from anywhere!! I've got some bits on the Audio side I want to improve and build some custom GT86 themes. But thought i'd put a little update on here just to show things are progressing and we're not far off!

Out of interest what's the time scale on that graph? How long did it take to get up to 30 - 40 degrees c?

Rob - What insurance company did you go with in the end? Also did you upgrade the clutch? Get some videos online! I've not seen a decent inside video of the Sprintex kit from the UK yet!

    My Insurance situation

That's it! There's about 15 houses within about 10 miles of me. No-one has ever had a car stolen and no body has ever crashed. If they do they patch they 4x4 up with some duck tape and carry on their day... I've got 3.2 years driving with nearly 4 years NCB.

My quote for FI from Elephant came back at £960 full comp. protected no claims and £500 excess. Others were quoting like £2k Also isn't Elephant part of Admiral?

Valenti Lights in stock now :)

I had smoked lights on my old 207 and also had a second decat.... One MOT tester wouldn't let either through. The other put it all through without any question. Didn't change a thing between the two.... My worry would be if there is any issues with being pulled / on the spot fines?

Really nice! The smoked ones looked awesome on Adrian's black car! Looks so stealth and awesome! I'm tempted. Wonder how the tinted ones will look on a red GT86. I don't hate the OEM ones. So not in a rush to change.

  17. Excellent day! Learnt so much and was nice to have a little bit of water on track. It meant I could concentrate on getting the corner perfect and take it slower but more technically correct. Rather than just trying go into it as fast as we can and rely on having loads of grip! Learnt so much with the help of Adrian! Felt so much more confident by the end of the day after Adrian had given some tips! Breaking was my biggest improvement. And not lifting on the throttle before a corner and rolling before getting on the brake! All obvious things but unless you've got someone sitting beside you clarifying it it's impossible to judge you're going to stop in under 300 yards from 110mph! Could tell I had improvement as the first right hander I started the day going through at about 50mph and could feel the back going. By the end of the day me and Adrian were going through it at 75mph+ and the car was perfectly balanced and in control! Definitely going to do a couple more of these in the future! Already got my eye on the Feb 15th novice day at Snett! Huge thanks to everyone for a fantastic day! and to Keith for organising it. And most of all Adrian for all the help!

    Reversing camera - help needed!

I sent a camera weeks before christmas? I assumed you got it? My inbox on the other forum is shockingly buggy... It never notifies me of messages/ If its full it just deletes it. And i'm limited to 200 messages. Sorry if I missed any emails... The camera I buy is the one Mark suggested. Must be a bad batch.. I ordered all the cameras for the macclesfield install in one go. And noticed that they were slightly different design. I've not had a problem with any of the previous installs and my one is now 8 months old and still works well and is sharp and clear. Sorry for any problems you've been having. If you need any other help best off emailing me on this forum.

It was only a matter of time......

No idea! Seems a little excessive to me! Defeating the point of the car! Chassis can't be happy with 400bhp. They like going fast in straight lines though!

    Driven the HKS Supercharger

It was all a little bit sudden and just a saturday morning 'wanna go for a drive' kind of thing. Nothing of a meet.

    Driven the HKS Supercharger

Last weekend Maz from HKS Europe was kind enough to come up to Norwich for a little meet and to let me take his newly supercharged GT86 out for a drive. Over the Christmas period Maz (which some of you probably met at the UK Meet) supercharged his GT86 using the HKS Kit. First look at the kit is that it’s very impressive to look at and definitely show-off material! Pipes are nice and shiny. The charger sits right up top in front of the throttle body and is the main focus on the engine bay. Lots of nice looking pipe work and all looks very clean. Far from an OEM look though! … Maz has this kit coupled up with the HKS High-Flow Exhaust and also fitted an oil cooler. On initial thoughts driving out of a busy crowded city there was little to experience. Whilst pottering around and maybe getting to a top speed of 25mph there's not much difference to an oem car, still drives very well at low speeds. A subtle little air rush sound on over-run. But nothing exciting yet. We get out on to the dual carriageway, up the slip road I was following a 40 tonne lorry! Soon as I could see clear lane I pulled out and booted it. Initial thought was ‘hmm not much going on’ couldn’t see the £5k improvement over my remapped car. But then we hit 4k rpm! The car just lifted the torque came and we flew. It was smooth, fast and a little surprising. The amount of speed it picks up whilst being very unassuming was amazing. No fuss just speed. It was different to the turbo where you can really feel the speed building and the acceleration. The supercharger you looked down as was just going quicker. Which was a unique feeling! It was particularly good when overtaking. Dropping down a gear and hitting the 3500rpm range the car just pulls and you get past in no time! But again you don’t really feel anything going on. You’re just going quick! This is obviously a first stage initial install HKS SC with not much UK development yet! But for first impressions I was impressed! Currently the HKS kit comes with a piggy back ECU which Maz thinks is limiting the system. But development is being carried out for the kit to work with EcuTek. Being a first install this isn't producing it’s peak power and not producing anything near the Avo Turbo kit, it doesn't seem to have any problem being installed with the stock clutch. This is apparent but it’s still quick and is going to have some serious potential. Definitely an increase in Torque. Patches the Torque dip well and outputs smooth NA feel power. The one downside for me with this kit was the sound. On over run when you lift of the throttle the extra boost gets diverted around a series of tubes. Which makes a loud whooshing sound constantly inside the cabin. Almost like metal grinding together. This is good when you’re going on a mad run and driving hard and want that feedback. But I imagine it could get annoying after a while on a long journey cruising up to roundabouts on the motorway etc. But Maz has said that can be toned down and probably hidden. Some people may love it! Overall it’s a good solid install and producing a good amount of power. Estimated at around 240bhp on the initial base map. It’s pretty to look at has potential of being a great system. Backed by HKS it should see some good improvements and development on it! I’ll be following this closely once its been mapped with the EcuTek maps.
