So it's time to start a build thread, for my ginger 86, which has become known as "Max Weapon" since the plate more or less spells that, and I like it in an 80s action hero kind of way.
Previously I'd fitted a K&N drop in air filter, but today he got his first proper mod, a new exhaust manifold and overpipe. I'd like to post pics, but in the excitement of trying to get it done myself before my garage time ran out I forgot to take any. I also forgot to put the undertrays back on, oops. Guess I'll be under the car on axle stands tomorrow for that. I'll try to snap a pic of the manifold while I'm at it.
Also planned for today was a Milltek secondary cat back, but that was stumped as I couldn't get the midpipe to join to the stock front pipe correctly. Any hints from anyone who has fitted one?
Results so far are fairly minimal noise wise. Since I'm running the majority of the stock pipe it's not gotten much louder. There's a definite change in tone from the UEL manifold though. Looking forward to the proper sound when I get the cat back on.
Not noticed a big difference in power either really, but I'm due in for a remap at TD next weekend, so I think that will be when I properly feel it.

Absolutely awesome day, missing being on track the past couple of months. The plan of taking it easy went out the window rather quickly
Suspension worked perfectly (thanks for the settings @Lauren) - had it running on just the g-force with a starting point of 44, didn't notice it go fully stiff but did see it in single figures (not that I was looking at the display...)
Called it a day after a coincidental 86 miles as the fuel light came on, not bad from a full tank
Shame I didn't get to take Nick out for a passenger lap, although with Faith saying I was worse than her for throwing a passenger about, it was probably for the best!

What an awesome day  was nice to see some of the new faces (and just faces I just haven't seen because i'm down south), I haven't quite put faces & names to cars properly though, or names to faces come to that but I think we all had fun, I was fairly knackered by the end of it and cold.
No major incidents which is nice, I am lead to believe there is photographic evidence of me spinning around in circles. I'm yet to bribe said photographer to not post it up

As some of you may have known, shortly after purchasing my car, I wanted a new set of alloys, namely the Rota Grids but 3 years past and still no Rotas, instead, not too long ago I brought a set of JR3 Racing wheels for track use.  While I was planning on purchasing the Rota wheels, I was also planning on designing a sticker for the spokes similar to what Volk Racing do with their wheels.  Now since the JR3 wheels are of a very similar design, during a free afternoon at work, I thought I'd go out and do a bit of scanning....namely....my new wheels.
As a lil practice and potential case study for the company, I scanned one of the wheels using our PolyWorks scanning software and produced a meshed model which I could then create curves to suit the design of the sticker/wheel that I need.  Once I had the shape of the sticker I wanted, I then had to figure a way to flatten the part which I eventually figured out with the help of my colleagues (long story short, cross-sections every 1mm, create points at either end, export points and load the points back in but on a single plane, then just join dot to dot with a polyline).  Now with the outline of the sticker flat, I could export that out 1:1 scale, into a drawing package to then add the club logo to and before sending it off to be cut out of vinyl.
Sadly this was all done a couple of months back but due to the weather and busy weekends, I've not had the chance to clean the car to add these stickers, but thanks to William Locock who helped me clean my car (which was a right mission as the front wheels were caked in brake dust and a bitch to clean.....especially since I never sealed them and it's been soooo long since they were last cleaned) but it finally got cleaned yesterday, so this morning, I decided to take the wheels off to apply the stickers as well as swapping the wheels around as the rears are a bit low on tread.

The only gripe I have was when I was picking the yellow from some samples that were sent to me, due to the pearlescent paint, there was no exact match and stupidly, I matched the colour by looking at the top half of the car (which is typically lighter due to the light) rather than the bottom half of the car which is typically darker so the stickers look like they don't match very well.....but ah well....still looks good to me.

Stripped the interior panels this weekend, ready for the hydrographics (Gold carbon weave). Fairly straight forward job, a philips and flat head did the job. The biggest pain was the two silver pieces of trim either side of the air con controls. to remove then you need to remove the whole centre console.

This morning I dropped the car off at the bodywork garage, for the wide body kit to fitted. As most of you know it's not an easy kit to fit. Cutting, welding, preparing the panels etc is required prior to fitting. The car will be in there for 2 -3 weeks, Let the transformation begin...

    Further updates soon...

    Time for an update
So as with the other thread I put up explaining the demise of my FA20, we suffered a small end failure with the HKS Stroker kit on piston 4 which caused the rod to windmill round inside the crank case and just destroy everything

After all this, I quickly fell out of love with the Boxer engine and began to look at alternatives. It seemed like the right time to do some research on V8's which has always been a dream of mine to put into the 86.
After lusting after an LS engine swap for ages, I came to the conclusion that I just couldn't justify putting another £20,000 into the car when I can use a 1UZ engine from Lexus which is a strong, reliable block that can give really good numbers with some forced induction.
So I started to work out how much I could sell all my engine parts for and it worked out almost exactly what I needed to complete a supercharged 1UZ swap  I'll be using the services of Nev at Driftmoto right next to Brands Hatch who has a wealth of knowledge putting these engines into various cars. Here's 1 that he's built for his drift Corolla, currently running around 800bhp on ITB's

We'll be developing a kit with Rotrex so that will keep costs down while we essentially do the R&D for a "bolt on" supercharger kit for the 1UZ engine. This should boost it to around 400bhp+ which is plenty for the little 86
I've been struggling to move some of the more expensive parts such as the Sprintex 335 supercharger and HKS Stroker kit, but things look to be just about falling into place  finger's crossed!
On the subject of HKS, @Mark@Abbey M/S has been absolutely superb in talking with Maz and HKS to get a resolution that suits me. We have agreed to a replacement stroker kit which will be sold brand new to someone along with the cams. HKS were also discussing giving me a replacement crank case but this would obviously be useless to me now so they have very kindly agreed to compensate me for part of the cost of the crank case, to go towards my new project. I really can't thank Mark, Maz and HKS enough for helping me get the perfect resolution to this difficult situation!
The next few months will be spent getting everything sorted for the 1UZ swap. First thing is to send the block off to the blasters to get soda-blasted down and painted to make it look nice and neat. Then Nev and I will be spending most weekends getting it all put together and running. Updates might be a bit slow during the install process simply due to the fact it's a completely custom project, but it'll be so worth it!

Hi all... I'm new to this site, but have been a happy owner of a black GT86 TRD for about a year and a half now having bought her from new when there was only a couple of the limited editions left.
Some of you will already know me no doubt, as I've been to a few events around the Northwest and such, but if not, hope to bump into most of you,            (not literally of course,) at some point in the future... P.S. Here's a couple of pics from Oulton Park last year.

Managed to get another 500 off the ticket price today, so signed on the line!
Am away with work now though so can't collect until the 11th!
The benefit of it being a publicity car is that I already have a bucketload of pics far better than I could ever take!
This could be the longest 10 days ever...
