Hertfordshire Meet/Drive/Eat or Drink - Sunday 26th Jan 2014
Keethos replied to faith's topic in Social Meets
Shame I couldn't make it people, I woke up in time...but felt like crap and still tired so I just went back to bed and didn't actually get up till 2pm Glad you all had an awesome time, well have to have another meet here so I can checkout Faith's Pass! Was her Pass any good people? -
It's probably already mentioned in Lauren's article but you typically only really want to be changing gears before the corner, so while your still in the braking zone....changing gears mid corner could unsettle the car and cause the car to jolt and loose traction....changing gears out of the corners and you lose precious acceleration time! Dropping gears will also aid in slowing the vehicle down as you'll have engine braking occurring....so you should only really have the clutch pedal down momentarily as you change gears and be straight off it again, just like Lauren says, you don't want to be coasting. I originally struggled to toe heel correct mainly because I tried to practice while driving normally which doesn't work very well in this car since the brake pedal is higher than the accelerator pedal, but when you are braking hard (which is when you'd usually toe heel anyways), the 2 pedals are more level and easier for you to roll your foot across. I found that in my Clio, the pedals were closer together so I could brake with my big toe and accelerate with my little toe, but I find that sometimes awkward in the GT86 as they're a little wider apart and I'm worried I'd slip off one of the pedals, so I tend to brake with my toes, then when I need to blip the revs, I quickly swivel my heel and jab the accelerator pedal and swivel back again. As for mpg readings, I'm typically getting a couple of MPG's more than before. What I've found is that the Eco mode doesn't do much for MPG figures that much, it does give you slightly higher readings when cruising at say 60mph but otherwise its not a massive difference. What it's mainly for if I understood this correctly is that it if you have to use normal RON95, then you can kick it into this ECO mode to utilise the petrol better. Though now that ECUTek have opened up the throttle position maps, Adrian may be able to create an even more ECO ECO map, where he can limit the throttle more at certain speeds to minimise petrol use etc.

Hey, welcome to the club dude! Glad you could join us! The car is great stock but even better when you start modifying it to suit you, adding your own unique touches etc! Hope to see you around at some of the meets in the near future!

Hertfordshire Meet/Drive/Eat or Drink - Sunday 26th Jan 2014
Keethos replied to faith's topic in Social Meets
Hey all, I'm still shattered from yesterday so I'm guna have to skip this and go back to bed me thinks. Plus the weather looks devastatingly bad, stormy and very gloomy. Sorry all but I hope you all have an awesome meet! -
Awesome stuff dude! In terms of the flat foot shifting, I don't really use it day to day (even when I get a nice bit of clear road for a hoon) that much as like you say, it does detract a lil but mainly because in order to use it, you need to have your foot right down on the accelerator pedal (70% and above I think in order for it to work) which I don't typically use on public roads. However, I used it a lot today during the trackday which I found useful, I found it quicker to change gears, less work required as I try to concentrate staying on track etc but it also allowed for smoother gear changes as I tend to be a bit too quick to get off and on the gas pedal when changing gears which causes a bit of a jolty gear change if that makes sense. So I have this functionality set on all the time but don't use it unless I really plant my foot, you can have it not on by default if you wish, don't forget you get a couple of maps to play with that you can switch between so you can have Adrian stick the flat foot shifting on either none of the maps or some of the maps, your choice! As for the toe heel functionality, I've rarely use it at all as I tend to do it myself so I can't remember 100% how it works, but I think you need to be above 3000 or 4000 rpm, your foot needs to be on the brakes and as you dip the clutch, the car auto rav matches. It can be handy for someone who can't toe heel very well but you do need to follow these strict rules to get it to work which means you'll only get to practice using it when you're pushing the car. You won't really be able to test this system out while driving normally. And again, you can have this on any map you wish, independent of the flat foot shifting and the launch control which I have still not used yet Hope this helps dude!

Snetterton Trackday 25th Jan 2014
Keethos replied to rob275's topic in Meets/Show & Shine - Pictures & Videos
I'd like to start by saying it was great seeing you all again today, had an awesomely long and joyful day as well as an entertaining evening the night before.....even though I was soooooo close to not being able to take part as I had failed the noise test! To pass, people needed less than 105db.......I got 108db with about 5500rpm.....I knew my exhaust was loud but not that bloody loud....even with about 5000miles on it. Revved the car some more and did some laps around a lampost (in the attempts to warm it up....even though it was already fairly warmed up), queued up again for another attempt and tried to hold the revs at 5000rpm which he clocked on and asked me for more revs (they ask for about 6000rpm). Don't know exactly what I got from that run but he said that because it's wet, I won't be going full chat (lol, yeah right, I was still revving the nuts off my car ) that they'd let me off and that if it was summer time, they wouldn't have let me on. So I'll need to do something about my exhaust me thinks We pretty much had the track to ourselves as all the GT86's were all in one group bar a rather nice Renault Alpine, an old BMW that kept on spinning and a rather nice Lotus Esprit but driven by a rather slow and inconsiderate bar stool. It was Angelsey and the stupid BMW X5 driver all over again, fast on the straights but this lotus driver was taking every corner at 10mph. He would rarely pull over, and when he would, wouldn't slow down (like a lot of the other drivers there to be honest) but would sometimes all of a sudden take the racing line again, thus cutting you up! But enough ranting, BIG thanks to Keith for organising this event and Adrian for taking precious time out from his busy schedule to baby sit us noobs Got to say, good call from Keith to leave when we did as like Mike mentioned, it absolutely piiiiissed it down shortly after we left! And I ended up taking 3 and a half hours to get home rather than just over 2 as I had to pull over for a rest/power nap for about 30 mins, them later on, stop for a KFC But overall, I quite enjoyed the trackday today, learnt a few things thanks to Adrian and the organiser who did the classroom thingy. I was a lil nervious it being my first wet trackday and it was pretty slippery, especially with the primacys, I was pretty much breaking traction on every turn/corner. I even had a couple of hairy moments with a bit of tank slapping. My first moment was on the final sharp turn with Adrian in the car with me and I have no idea why but I ended up pushing the car too much out of the corner that the backend came out about 45deg, caught it, tank slapped back and forth a bit and managed to skid the backend out on to the grass before slowing down enough to regain control and carry on. Wasn't mega scary as there wasn't much around besides grass and mud, but more embarrised with Adrian in the car The second time was during my very last lap where I had built up too much confidence and ended up pushing the car too much through the first long bend where I was doing about 75mph+ on fading tyres and brakes and ended up in a full on drift....but as the turn began to straighten up, my car didn't and it continued to face the big metal barriers which made my bottom squeek. Panicked, started jerking the steering left and right as the car tank slapped left and right, but then I started to pump the accelerator pedal and it eventually gripped and drove straight on.....I knew I had to calm down after that so I pulled in....at which point shortly after, the marshals waved the checkered flag anyways and thus concluded our trackday.- 37 replies

Looking to buy a modified car... from a dealer.
Keethos replied to suggestable's topic in Modifications
Turns out that I was mistaken, the cars that Adrian turbo'd that came from the dealers were in fact 2nd hand cars for customers but primarily for the dealers themselves. Again, best bet is to have a word with Adrian first and possibly Rich from RRG. -

Not a problem Mark....but you're not that far from me, we could always have a mini meet of some sort....same with Chris, he's in Derby ain't he? -

Awesome stuff Sarah, knew you couldn't stay away for long, I bet you're kicking yourself for selling your own car now......then again....you're going white now New job then? Your best bet would be to either speak to Rich from RRG who I'm sure would be willing to get all the other cosmetic bits and bobs done as he'll happily have the vehicle modified by Adrian no problems. Alternatively, speak directly with Adrian and see which of the dealers he's been dealing with because some of the recent turbo conversions he's done have been from dealers on brand new cars with only a couple of miles on them, if those dealers are willing to do a turbo conversion on a brand new car for customers, then I'm sure they'd be willing to supply you a second hand one with Adrian's mods on, the question is weather the dealer or Adrian will go the extra mile to do all the cosmetic wrapping etc. How much the dealer slaps on top though.....no idea, you'll have to crunch the numbers with a dealer to find out. -
still undecided if you love or hate the car huh? What would you go for instead?

LOL, I was guna mentioned the seatbelt thing But yeah, sound is a bit naff.....and doesn't it do night vision? I always reverse into my drive, I find it easier to get the car close to one side away from the front door if I do as there's a lil wall which I worry about catching if I drive in forwards without being miles away from it. -
Awesome stuff Mark, glad you got it all working again!

@Mark - you not keen on joining us yourself Mark? Thanks for the offer dude, I'm thinking that the people who are interested would eventually need to join or at least contact me for payment etc. With some of the people here who are ok with collecting the parts at our next meet after the items arrive, what I'll probably do is just pay for all the sets to be delivered to me and whoever want's it delivered can pay a lil extra to do so, but either way, they'll need to speak to me. If you can word that without getting yourself into trouble then by all means mate, go for it Cheers Mark! I've updated my initial post, for those who haven't already mentioned, could you please let me know if you'd like the parts to be posted to you or if you're ok to collect at the next meet after the items arrive. Thanks peeps! -

I probably won't be able to make this as I'll also be thinking about taking part in the TSS....plus it's a bit of a trek for me....plus I have some important business to attend that week so I won't be able to take any time off for a long journey like that. But here is a Calendar entry for people to RSVP or to just keep a track of titled Scottish Civil War - East Vs West Meet....was guna add in No Man's Land but couldn't fit it in

fatrab - Scottish Meet - 27/04/14: "We've been threatening to do a West vs East meet in Scotland for a while now so it's time to lay down the gauntlet!!!!! To tie in with Faith's next visit to the nicer side of the border I think it's time us soapdodgers from the west showed the eastern gadgies how to drive, ken, eh??? (there's a bitter rivalry between east & west!) As it would be highly illegal to sort out our differences on the open highway I've got a better idea! Thinking we could do a meet somewhere, on neutral ground, from about 11am before venturing into the unknown (or Edinburgh as it's commonly known) to Raceland for a karting competition. Not that there will be much competition from you softies over there!!!! Everyone is of course welcome but it would be great if any of the Northern/North East owners fancied the trip up! I'll get on the scrounge again for a few prizes and see what I can come up with to entice as many owners as possible to take part! Anyone up for it?? " Visit the thread here for more information.
