Wanted: Cobrasport de-cat pipe
Keethos replied to kurosagi01's topic in Wanted GT86 / BRZ Cars and Parts
Kurosagi01 probably completely forgot but this has been sorted. -
A large number of us are now running the Yokos V105s and are very happy with them.....to a point where they always seems to be out of stock They have a very good amount of grip and last a fair period. My 2nd choice would be the Continental Contact Sport 5's, a little more expensive I think but still sub £100 and they have more grip, especially in the wet but they also do wear quicker.

I did think about it but heard they don't work very well/stay on, think Faith had a go with some and it didn't work out I think....but I might give them a go just in case.

So the time finally came, it's been a long time coming but I've finally got the wheels that I've been meaning to get for a while now (thanks Adam). These are the Gram Lights (Rays) 57Getters in 18x9.5Jet40 wrapped in 235/40R18 Pirelli P Zero Nero I think. Sadly they were in a bit of a rough state so had to have them refurbished but they came out nice and shiny. As you can see, they sit rather nicely and only just peeking out on the sides. What I will say though is that the tyres are a bit too stretched for my liking, probably why they were kerbed so much before so might need to go 245 next time. So far they feel good (though not done that many miles in them yet) but they'll be my daily's while my Japan Racing JR3's will be used for track only. Not only that, some of you know that my car was at RRG last week for some work, and some of you already know what that was. As you may know, I was having issues with my previous set of coilovers (HSDs) with a knocking sound from the front right and after Lauren, Kevin and Jeff test drove my car, they could tell something wasn't right. So after a couple of rides in a couple of different setups, I went the safe route (rather than trying something completely different to everyone else....however awesome the Yellow Racing coilovers look) and brought the Tein Mono Sport coilovers with 8kg front springs and 9kg rear springs. The HSDs were 9kg/7kg and I sat in Mike's Mono Sports but with 6kg/7kg springs I think and I was hoping for something in-between the two which I think the 8kg/9kg achieves somehow. To add to this, the Tein's adjusters are all on top, it makes it a million times easier to adjust and if/when I get the EDFC remote control unit, it'll be even easier to adjust from within the car either manually or automatically. When full soft, they ride over the small road imperfections perfectly so 85% of the time they are great, however the off 15% of the time, it sometimes feels like the suspension can't react quick enough when going over big bumps and dips which causes the car to bounce a lil more than before. When on full stiff, they're great again over big bumps and dips just like the HSD's but then like the HSD's, they cause the car to jiggle around a lot more over small road imperfections, so at the moment I'm on full soft on daily drives, but then full stiff (or there abouts) when on track and if I forget to adjust them on the way home, it's not going to break my back. I can definitely feel the 9kg at the rears working, when going around the corner, you can feel the rears are on edge more which makes it a lil more drift happy me thinks.....not a bad thing You may also know that I've been having some issues with the front K Sport brakes where I was suffering from long brake pedal travel. We couldn't see why it would do this, there was plenty of fluid, no leaks, and the pads had been replaced recently....but low and behold it was actually the pads, even though they were part worn, there was plenty of meal on them, but after 3 months (though it did include 2 trackday, 1 sprint and a CAT Driver course, but still) it had worn down to barely nothing at all (though braking power was still good, it would stop, you just needed to put your foot down a lot further which made toe heeling very difficult). I think there was actually something wrong with the pads as they were chipping a bit initially, they probably just crumbled to this state considering how much they travelled initially. But now that I have some fresh new EBC Yellowstuff pads, the travel is back to being high up again and the brakes were performing wonderfully at Anglesey this weekend, so all is good once again! So a big thanks to those who gave me a ride in their different setups, thanks to those who test drove my car and gave me their opinions on my HSDs and thanks to Rich, Gary and everyone at RRG for their work and short turnaround on my car last week. The HSD's really weren't bad at all, I think I could have easily kept them if they weren't knocking, but now with the added bonus of no knocks, top mounted adjusters and the option to go EDFC, I think it's definitely a good option to take. Hmmmm.....just need to see what's next on the list

Consequences of impending nearby construction
Keethos replied to nerdstrike's topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
They've started construction on a big building next to where we park our cars at work now which means my car has a rather thick layer of dirt on it -
Sorry to hear this dude, hope you get them back but glad you and the family are OK.

Congrats and welcome to the club, any plans for mods etc?

As some of you may know, I'm currently in the market for a new set of coilovers since my current set were only really a stop gap that I picked up on the cheap, but now that some issues are arising, I thought I'd go out and see what else I could get. Now the easy choice would be to go Tein as so many have gone that route and have been very happy with them, but my only slight concern is that they might be a bit on the soft side for track use for my liking (then again, mine were a lil on the hard side [9kg/7kg] for Blyton this weekend, some fast corners were a bit on the bumpy side so softer would have been better....just not sure how soft) and I've read that they bottom out quite easily....plus....who doesn't like to be a bit different? Now Jeff who has an impressive set of Moton's pointed me towards the ATS coilovers....but they're are waaaay too much for my liking, but he also pointed me towards a set of Yellow Speed Racing coilovers which instantly peaked my interests....well because they're yellow....but also because you can get their Club Performance coilovers with external reservoirs which allows for a two way adjustment for less than the Tein MonoSports: http://www.yellowspeedeurope.com/manufacturer-selection/toyota/gt86/gt86-12/coilovers/yellow-speed-racing-club-performance-coilovers-toyota-gt86.html They even do a Pro version for a extra couple of hundred more.....but no idea what the difference is. Obviously the problem is, I've never heard of them, I've ready they've been great with the Honda owners etc but they are an unknown factor come GT86's. So my question is, has anyone had any experience with Yellow Speed Racing coilovers before? I think £1200 is about my limit, are there any other alternatives for someone who does a lot of driving and a decent amount of track days? Thanks in advanced.

what......I hope they're not just saying....well we've fixed it once and it's happened again so it's probably by design or some crap like that, I'd find myself a new dealer!

And it's supposed to be less likely yo leak thus last a lot longer....but I have no idea really. I've heard that because there's hardly anyone able to do the re-gas so they're charging whatever they like.

At no point did I ask about the affects of balloon tyres to performance, I was questioning Lauren's comment on Will having Balloon tyres, he's running 245/40 (on a 9J wheel), the side walls will only be slightly bigger than 215/45 that we run......I then went on to asking how having balloon tyres equates to the increased suspension travel at lower speeds i.e. the wheels getting tucked into the wheel arch.

.......what's that got to do with anything?
