Hi Ade, Are you asking me what make are the pads or the actual material composition? Because if it's the latter I have no idea!
-
Hi Mike, no the brakes aren't weeping any more and there the fluid is still at max (it might even be a lil over), the pads are K Sport ones again I think and the rear are Stoptech. Is there a way to test if the pistons are travelling smoothly?
-
I believe the brake fluid is ATE DOT 4 fluid. As for over braking, I've been to Cadwell Park a few times now (including tuition time there as well) so I'd like to think that I'm familiar with the track. There are a couple of corners that required some big braking but most corners only require a little dab and the traction control would only really kick in severely when going over the mountain (even though you're pretty much straight, due to the hump, the car lifts a bit and the traction control goes mental cos it thinks you're losing traction).
-
No idea what brand of the fluid has been put in (can you answer that @Mike@TD.co.uk?), I do a fair bit of track driving but first time after a fresh set of discs and pads with the K-Sports, I usually do a cool down lap after about 5 - 8 laps roughly I think. Traction control is usually in Sport mode (if I can remember to turn it on, still haven't built up enough courage to turn everything off yet) and the rears are still stock with Stoptech pads I think. Again no loss in braking power, just requires more brake pedal travel and less initial response.

I've recently had DOT 4 fluid put in by Mike@Tuning Development (I think) which he assured was great for track use and I think the brake kit came with braided lines too.

Something else to consider, if you plan on adding more power (serious power i.e. going force induction) then the auto box won't handle the heat and abuse of drifting the car or heavy track use.

He's saying the 86's gear box isn't as good as the DSG variants, I believe it's a very good auto box for a traditional gear box but still not upto DSG standards.

About half of what an OEM would cost that for sure

While you are pushing on I'd imagine not (especially if you plan on modifying the car i.e. changing the final drive, remap, exhaust system etc) but you will probably find quick starts off the line to be a lot slower than a manual, I can't remember the exact technical reasoning for this but I think it's something along the lines of the torque converter not engaging straight away thus allowing it to slip and preventing you from accelerating as hard as a manual gear box would off the line.
-
Awesome stuff Rich, glad she's all better!

Congrats and welcome!

Yes as Deacon mentioned I drive a manual but I first test drove an auto but that was purely because that was all the dealer had. Maybe because I'm not used to it but found the paddles a lil fussy when driving normally and boring if driving in full auto. Paddles make sense when you're pushing hard or on track but you lose a lil fun in gear changing.

It's not dual clutch, it's pretty good for an auto but not as good as a dual clutch. I'd say wait for a manual, I'm assuming most of the autos that have been seen drifting on YouTube are big powered cars anyways which will be easier to break traction to start drifting, the 86 will require a bit more effort to achieve a proper drift and I think having a manual would be more suitable.

Darn it, I wanted to organise something for this as I live down the road but completely forgot (was even thinking about seeing if they'd allow us to go on display). I think I'm free so will think about going.

It was a great day and thanks again for the ride round, the Harrop is pretty impressive in it's smooth power delivery, makes an ever slight whine along with a some what deep growl from the inside but you can't hear anything from outside, almost sounds like an electric car its that quiet.....but rapid . Also very impressed with the Pilot Sports, I'm sure we were doing similar speeds around some of the longer bends and the Yoko's would squeal and scrub a bit where as your car remained planted even when on full or almost full throttle.

I can't remember hearing any issues with low battery causing the alarm to trigger but I do vaguely remember people getting the sensitivity of their alarm systems turned down via the lil keypad within the glove box I think.

The wings look like they're close/in line with the rear arches so they're within the wing mirrors.

Awesome stuff Kev, because race car....anything goes!

Awesome stuff, and yes I'm pretty sure you can scan directly into Geomagics with the Nikon system but I wouldn't say it's the best out there (I work for a company that sells, trains, supports and uses a competitor software to Geomagics called PolyWorks). Like most proprietary softwares out there, they are never as good as a specialist software like Geomagics and PolyWorks. You and your scanning guys might find some of my 86 inspired scan projects interesting: Let me know if you ever want a demo of PolyWorks, any excuse to pop round to see your setup and your work

[Hope you don't mind me using your pic Steeps] Does painting everything black count?

Welcome to the club, looking forward to seeing what you do with your BRZ and what products you come up with. Also, very cool seeing you use the Nikon scanner to scan and design parts with, what softwares do you use?
