As my journey continues, here's a sneak peak at what I've just got back tonight Sadly my journey has just had a bit of a spanner thrown into the works, I mentioned previously what I was going to get some custom fenders made, well the geezer who was going to do it for me hasn't gotten around to doing it for me yet and he says that it won't be till next weekend at the earliest at which point the car would have already been handed over to the body shop and I'm not around to have a look at them first, plus I just don't have any confidence at all any more from this guy that he'll actually be able to deliver these custom fenders at all at this point. This went from them possibly doing the whole job for me (repair and paint), to their paint company doing the whole work for me but they'd still do the custom fenders to now nothing at all. So plans will have to change

WHERE YOU BEEEEEEN? The order should have been processed and posted, but luckily for you, I ordered a set of black fenders for myself which I can let you have instead, but I will have to see if my current ones can be salvaged. Will let you know after this weekend. -
Welcome to the Club, glad you could join us and congrats on the purchase!

There are a lot of information on the Internet about wheels but even more opinions which don't always help when picking wheels as it's such a personal preference thing, whether you are after style over performance or vice versa. There are those on here who have stuck with 17 as they are believed to give better handling, plus they are typically lighter which again is a plus, others have gone for bigger wheels for looks. I'm personally wanting to go 18 purely for looks as I find that 17 look too small for the arches. I would typically stay with the same width or go a little wider for a bit more grip but at the same time, I might go even wider because the alloys that I do want look awesome when wide as they concave more. Typically the wider the wheels, the more grip which would be advised if you plan on going Forced Induction. As for offset, you'll be limited to choice here anyways but again, for looks, I'd want an offset that makes the wheels stick out more so they look more flush with the arches rather than the stock look which looks like the wheels are lost in the arches again. So again, very little info here but plenty of opinion so take what you will, but here's a handy tool I use to help http://www.frsproject.com/tire_size.php

Wait, are you ragging around on an airfield by yourself on Saturday? Or is there an actual trackday or something there? Cos if you are by yourself, how do we get in on that action? [emoji14]

Lol, same here....I try to stick to 70 but I get impatient and ticked off by the people in front who do less than 70, so I over take but by then I end up over taking everyone else and then stay at that speed.....

Yeah, Adrian and Mark has mapped people's cars from their office's in the UK to people all over Europe, as long as they have Internet connection, they just send a log back, analyse the data, tweak the map, send it back to the client, they install the map and do another run and then send the logs back again.
-
It's true, in order for Cosworth to quote their gains, you have to have everything that they've specified install along with their own premade map which is locked so people can't copy and tweak then but I'm sure Adrian would be able to reverse engineer some of that from the logs he gets.

It comes on early so it gives you plenty of time to find more fuel, sure there's a thread here somewhere where someone has managed 30 or 40 miles

It's a bit like me not minding a slap around the face but if you make me bleed my own bloody, there will be trouble [emoji38]

Hey all, This may have been asked before somewhere somehow but I can't seem to find it (might have even been on the other side [emoji58] ), but I was wondering what the pros and cons are of having spacers. I was originally going to go 10mm wider at the front and then 20mm at the rears which I know some people have done but now I'm thinking of going 20mm wider all round to use with my stock wheels. This would be for use on road and even possibly on track. I've had my car lower by 30mm and -2deg of camber at the front and -1.75deg at the rear. Would there be any down sides or even benefits to the handling of the car and even increased wear on connecting components? Thanks all.
-
Lol, thanks for the pics, but when I said kicking up crud onto the body, I was more referring to stones and bits that might damage or chip the Paint down the sides of the car, not so much just getting dirty, like yourself, I don't clean my car, I'm not that anal, but I don't fancy running my new paint job.

I think I speak for quite a few people here that we'd all love to see your engine build, many of us have no experience doing anything like this so it will be very educational for us, especially on an 86 [emoji5]

Thanks for the 15mm pics Keith, are they too far out then on 15mm? They road legal? How far out do they look from behind (if you can remember)? Wondering if they're too far out that they'll end up kicking up too much crud onto the body too I'd prefer it if I didn't need to take off the discs as I plan on keeping my Stocks for Track (possibly winter too) and my future 18's during the rest of the time which won't need the spacers on.

Hey all, Another Pro's and Con's question here. I've heard many times that a lil bit of stretch is a good thing as it stiffens the side walls which means less flex which means more positive feel when turning in (is that correct?). But what other good things are there about having stretch tyres? And are the down sides of having stretched tyres? How much stretch is too much? Would fitting a 235/40R18 tyre onto an 18x9.5J wheel equal too much stretch? Below is an image of what Laruen has set up with a bit of stretch and what 235/40R18 looks like, Lauren's setup doesn't look like it's stretch from this illustration but it's enough for her to feel a stiffer, more pointy car. Thanks all.

OK, I've managed to add another set, they should be processed today and I've been told that they should be ready to be shipped by Wednesday, if they're guna be like last time, they'll arrive probably by Friday (they were unbelievably quick last time). Either way, I'll keep you all posted and I'll PM you guys regarding payment once they arrive (in the hopes that there won't be any customs to pay). Captain G, do you want your posting or collecting either at a common location or at the next meet or something? -
Yes thanks for the info, and here's me thinking it would be the other way round, that the smaller spacers would be plug and play while the larger ones needed another set of bolts. How easy is it to remove the bolts from the discs and I take it that the wider spacers need bolting to the hud and then the spacers have new bolts to bolt to the wheel? Anyone got pics of the fronts with 15mm spacers on stock wheels?
-
Hey all, another quick question which might be useful to those who might be considering spacers but with regards to the 10mm and 20mm spacers, do either of the spacers require new/longer bolts to fit stock wheels onto? What do you get in the box besides the actual spacers themselves? Thanks.

Looks good! Welcome to the club. Any plans for the car at all? Track days, mods, shows etc?

[emoji30] why the last minute decision G man? I've already paid for the 6 that I've got names for but I don't think that Japex has processed the order yet so I'll see if I can add another set of white for you. I'll let you know. -
Meh, don't think they'd accept us if they knew Keith
-
Lol, crazy isn't the word I would use, did you notice the exhaust?
-
Lol, that is a lil extreme, I'm thinking of going wide, not going retarded with camber [emoji14]

Rocking some new wheels for a couple of days while my stock wheels get refurbed courtesy of Alec for lending me his spare set of old Scoobie wheels with winter rubbers on......sorry to say it Alec but 16" are waaaaaay too small for these arches......they look sooooo lost......but thanks anyways
