Hello! I've finally put my money where my mouth is!

Congrats dude and welcome to the club finally! Glad to see that you finally took the plunge after eyeing my car up 😜. Gutted that Toyota didn't do another sports day last year 😭. The wait is guna be a killer so be sure to browse around, plenty pics and vids to keep you busy, and plenty on YouTube....I spent most of my time watching YouTube videos leading up to my collection but back then, there were only a handful......now there's a hell of a lot of content out there. Looking forward to meeting/catching up sometime! Sent from my EDI-AL10 using Tapatalk

New owner .. well will be in March 2017

I had something similar, dealer had my car ready but because of my insurance Company not willing to insure my new car, I had to wait a couple of weeks for that to expire before getting new insurance on the 86....went to have a look at her.....and instead of waiting, I went out and got myself a couple of weeks temporary insurance since I was itching to driver her, I just couldn't wait.....I have no idea how you'll cope for a couple of months! Under floor Sub

Found the pics As you can see, there's still space around the sub and etc.

    Under floor Sub

Not that I can tell (I'm definitely no audiofiliac) but considering it is covered by the boot lining anyways....plus I assumed it was designed to fit inside a spare wheels which would do the same thing.

    Under floor Sub

FYI, for a cheap solution to help keep the boot lining up in the middle, I managed to nab the polystyrene block that holds the tyre foam etc. from someone else who didn't need it anymore (annoyingly mine was thrown out when they fitted the JBL system which was a bit annoying), then cut out the inside so the sub can sit inside while keeping the boot lining up in the middle.

Uhhh... my rear view mirror glass fell out?

I've just noticed that the edges around my rear view looks a bit bubbly like its starting to delaminate, does it need to come off completely before warranty replacement? Sent from my EDI-AL10 using Tapatalk
  11. So after 2 weeks without my car, I finally have her back and I missed her dearly! A massive thanks to Mike and Nick from Tuning Developments for their excellent service as usual, especially since they only needed the car for a day or two but was willing to look after her for a full 2 weeks while I was away. Also a massive thanks to Will for chauffeuring me there So I've had my GT86 modified with a Cobra Resonated Catback with 2nd Cat delete for many years now, not too long ago, I replaced the straight pipe for a Berk High Flow Cat ready to replace the exhaust manifold which would remove the remaining Cat on the car as well as that pesky torque dip, though now I've heard other people still failing their MOTs because the HF Cat doesn't get hot enough to pass but ah well. Over New Year, as a late Xmas and Birthday present to myself, I decided to get the Tuning Development's increasingly popular Catless Manifold (Unequal Length version) and Overpipe, along with a another remap via ECUTek which was done on a dyno this time rather than purely on the road mapping. The Cobra on it's own is a reasonably loud exhaust system, even when resonated (see my other videos on track for a idea of the volume) but with the UEL manifold, it's a fair bit louder when you are around the 3000rpm mark or are part or full throttle, not sure if my recent shunt at Croft has affected the back box in anyway but it is a bit rattly and resonates when you blip the throttle which makes it sound really loud. However it does sound awesome, reminds me a lot of the Aston GT4 that I drove recently 😍 especially since it now pops and crackles more than it used to and once you are on it and you get above 4000rpm, the volume isn't much louder than it was before. I just hope that it won't cause me any issues when trying to get on track, I'm thinking that since the car needs to be tested at about 5500rpm, that it'll be quiet enough there....even though it'll be reasonably loud getting there Suppose if it doesn't then I'll either have to get someone to weld in another silencer section or even going the whole hog and dampen the sound with a Turbo Charger Obviously I haven't yet full tested the car and really pushed her but so far I'm impressed, it does feel a lot more eager low down, so from 2000rpm onward, it just pulls constantly now and as you can see from the dyno plot, I gained a decent 30ftlb where the torque would normally dip. It's a shame that I didn't really get any more hp compared to some other people, and still can't figure out how I managed to drop from around 204hp to 198hp which was shortly after I had the car first mapped and the exhaust fitted, to just after my first crash with no major changes besides a quick update to the map in-between. I've managed to get back up to 202hp which I'm happy with (not really chasing numbers like) but it does bug me a bit how I've seen someone else with 213hp with a very similar setup to me.....just hope that there's nothing mechanically wrong with the car from the crash still.....as Mike and Nick did struggle to swap the manifolds over considering that all the ones they've done so far have all literally just dropped off and the new one slotted straight back on again 😖 But I keep telling myself that if anything was wrong, it would have failed by now so hay ho....just one of those things I suppose. Also, while I was dropping Will off to pick his car up and for me to drop mine off a couple of weeks back, I had a quick play with Will's knob (waaaaay) and felt how good the MTEC Shift Spring was.....so I had to quickly dash out of the car and get Mike to add that to my job as well Highly recommended (along with the Whiteline Positive Shift Mount if you hadn't already done so), the stock gear shifts were pretty good but with these small lil mods, really transforms the feel of the gear changes, a lot more positive and assuring without any increase in stiffness (waaaaay)....now it has an even more bolt action feel to it.

GT86 Snow driving - hints please!

Try driving in a higher gear than normal, so when setting off, try it in 2nd rather than 1st etc. Less likely to light the wheels up and instead, just creep away.

Congrats and welcome to the club Chris, another fellow midlander I too remember seeing that MR2 at JAE over the years, will you be sticking with the MR2 lot this year at JAE? As Rob mentioned, we will be attending but sharing the plot with the IMOC lot, we'd love you to join us if you can! Also interested in knowing what plans you have on the already well equipped 86 you've brought.

Standard Head Unit - Hidden Menus

Its been a couple of years since I've been in those hidden menus but I don't recall seeing anything that I could change....maybe the brightness or contrast but again....can't remember. Either way, there wasn't anything that was needed to be enabled to use the reversing camera, I may have mentioned the menu very early on when first trying to figure out how to get a camera to work but it was just to say that the car already recognised the reverse gear input which will trigger a camera if there was one. 18. So as some of you may know, I’ve spent the past week over in Dubai as a part business trip (which is very rare for me to travel outside of the UK) part holiday (which is again quite rare as a holiday is usually either car related or just resting at home, but since I was already out there I thought why not) so a massive thanks to my bosses for allowing me to stay on on the company. So I left for Dubai on the 1st arrive early morning on the Monday, the airport was quite nice, rather fancy looking and I didn’t have to wait too long for my baggage to turn up. Then it was time to grab a taxi….which was quite the opposite, I had to wait bloody ages. Massive queues of people waiting with a constant stream of taxis. And once I did get a taxi….my god….the standard of driving....jeeebus, I don't know if it was because it was late but people would forever indicate, not turning them off when they no longer need to turn or change lanes any more, changing lanes for no reason with literally no one around, saddling two lanes, stopping on a roundabout to exchange some words with someone, then speed off, jump on a roundabout the wrong way, then when we get to the hotel, matie who stopped on the roundabout with us decides to pull up behind us and start revving his engine and stuff.....but which point it was about 2 in the morning……no idea what was going on there! I definitely would not last long out there, while I continue to travel around as well as to and from work, I saw more and more terrible driving. So besides forever indicating, lane hogging, twin lane saddling etc. I also witnessed some serious tailgating, people cutting in at the last minute for a turn off (and I’m not talking about the one dick head, its usually a lot of them which means causing traffic to back up) as well as overtaking on the hard shoulder and even bloody going off road in order to cut in front of traffic!! Not only that, but when it’s foggy, which it was a lot of the times while I was there (supposedly very rare but it’s been foggy for a good couple of weeks), all that goes right out the window as people there don’t know how to drive in the fog, accidents left right and centre….they don’t use their fog lights….oh no….they turn on the hazards and then either drive extremely slowly or extremely quickly. There’s load of weird laws out there and for a place that many petrol heads dream of, it’s actually not that great of a place to be for petrol heads in my opinion, mods are limited as a lot of it is restricted by law (most modified cars are actually imported as the police don’t know that it didn’t actually come from the factory like that from that country) and the roads are all straight pretty much, just 3-8 lanes everywhere. Day 1 So enough ranting about the driving in the UAE, after a late night and a good sleep in, I woke up and randomly chose a place to go to and one thing that popped up was that there was a Sega Republic, a massive arcade place I thought, how wrong was I, turns out Sega Republic was just a small section of the world’s second biggest mall in the world, that is The Dubai Mall. I rocked up to the front entrance to see a rather nice Ferrari, 2 Lamborghini’s, 2 Rolls Royce’s and a Bentley all parked up at the front or driving past. Headed on inside and it was MASSIVE, a bit of a maze, hell, it’s got a bloomin aquarium in the middle of the Mall. Rows and rows of jewellery shops (never seen sooooo many watches in my life)…..and security guards by each door trying to open the door for me…..I AIN’T GOT THAT TYPE OF MONEY BUDDY!!! Restaurants dotted all around but also a massive food court on the top floor, indoor ice rink, a massive fountain and lots more. I reckon I spent a good 6 hours in there and still didn’t see everything. I took this opportunity to take lots of pics, most of these won’t be of any interest to most people but there were a lot of stuff imported in from Japan in terms of characters, statues and figurines….stuff I would classify as Cool! Up top, beside a big Cinema, there was as I mention, a Sega Republic there, to be fair, not as packed with arcades as say Trocadero in London but it did have some big rides in there. What was cool though was the Initial D simulator which I had a go in….and obviously you can guess which car I went into Though I sucked at it cos the handling was well weird. I also wondering out around the back and saw a massive crowd of people just looking up, bemused by what was going on, I wondered further out and finally saw what people were looking at, a pretty cool and well lit up Burj Khalifa (as by now it was about 6/7 in the evening), luckily I had just caught it as it soon went off again and didn’t come back on while I was still wondering outside taking pics. Would have liked to head up the Burj Khalifa but you have to book a time slots in advance. Anyhoo, I then settled down to have some sushi after watching my mate Alex’s Vlogs in Japan, making me crave Japanese food. It was an all you can eat off a conveyor belt which I’m ashamed to say, I only took one item off them belt, the reason being was because the people making the sushi and what not behind the conveyor belt kept on making other dishes and just handing them to me, I was stuffed to the point where I didn’t even want any desert whatsoever. After that, it was straight back to the hotel for some rest before work the next day. Didn’t really do anything at all over the next 3 days besides going to and from work, by the time I got back to the hotel, I didn’t want to do anything and there was nothing nearby to do anyways, Dubai seems to be a place that you have to drive or take taxis everywhere.

    Keith's Trip to Dubai 2017

Thanks Lauren, the thing is the UAE is littered with these massive shopping malls and stuff, just down the road from the Dubai Mall is another massive mall call Emirates Mall I think, and there's plenty around the outskirts too. And the weather was very comfortable, about a constant 18deg while I was there if I recall correctly. Its definitely somewhere I'd recommend visiting at least once in your life to see what it's like out there, at times it is just mental. Sent from my EDI-AL10 using Tapatalk

    Keith's Trip to Dubai 2017

Right, can people see the pics now? I've also put some videos in there now! I agree with you, the local who was driving me to and from work was telling me all sorts of stories out there of how Emirateians get paid to do nothing there, get a way with a lot of stuff and just live it large, while the whole country is pretty much ran by immigrants, Filipinos, South Africans, Indians etc. Did I mention that I was mistaken for a Filipino twice while I was out there? By actual Filipinos....that's just mental....of all the people out there, you'd think Asians would be able to tell the difference between other Asians.....I'm not even that dark But yeah, the whole country is one big construction yard, there's always something new being built so it'll definitely be worth another visit again in a couple of years. I've slowly seen more and more things that I could potentially have done and it's scary how much there is out there. Like those roads you posted up, they look epic, definitely worth a visit....might even look into hiring a car next time.
