3rd September - Grasshopper lunch & social - South East
suggestable replied to rob275's topic in Social Meets
Count me in. Day after my birthday, so should be good. It would be wonderful to see SpecialK Keith again, as I don't think I've seen him since I got my new black GT86.- 92 replies

I have Dynamat. I have the new head unit. I have the new speakers. I have the new power cabling for the amps. I have the RCA lead for the sub and reversing camera. I have the front camera. I have the GPS antenna. What I don't have is enough time. I want to do all of it in one go over a weekend. Are you up for helping me? ;-)
-
The only reason I'm hooking up anything to my rear holes at all is that I have a four-channel amplifier and a spare set of reasonable-ish (it's tough to find anything "good" in 4" size) Vibe Slick 4 coax speakers. I may just put insulation tape on the amp outputs for the rear channels and leave them disconnected...
-
If anyone's interested, I'll be wiring my Focal IS165TOY speakers up to a Clarion XC1410 - http://www.clarion.com/gb/en/products-personal/speaker/XC1410/ - amplifier, which will also handle the rear channels. 4x50W RMS, weighs next to nothing, can run on the factory speaker cables and should be plenty loud enough :-) Those Clarion amps go for about £100.
-
Two woofers and two tweeters. You get what you pay for. I'm building my system for sound quality, not SPL, and putting shitty speakers in a £30k car doesn't seem right to me.
-
FWIW, I think I paid about £130 for my set. They are 60W RMS. They'll benefit from an amp. Most head units claim to have 4x50W, but fail to state if this is RMS or PMPO. One time I bought a head unit, it declared the output as "4x50W peak. 4x13W RMS". Since then, I've always amped my speakers using an amp delivering RMS output close to the RMS handling of the speakers I fit. It makes a massive difference! Class D amps are very compact, deliver great sound and don't cost much. I imported both my amps via Amazon.com and saved a fortune! I hope this helps someone, and I'm sorry again for necroing this thread.
-
The crossovers are integrated into the woofers, which is apparently the same as the factory wiring. I'll fit mine at some point...

Sorry for the necro, but... This may help anyone looking for speaker advice: http://www.focal.com/en/dedicated-driverspeaker-kits/520-is-165-toy.html Direct replacement, no wires to cut, easy to fit and no worries about depth clearance.

I actually sold my last car with my Lego tyres still fitted! Whoever bought my car got a nice freebie :-) GY62 ZTO - You can send me your thanks.

Spotted a nice new 65 plate black GT86 on my way home yesterday. Pulled up alongside you, but you didn't seem to notice, so I disappeared into the distance. Hopefully I'll see you again. Always nice to spot one of our cars on my daily commute. :-)
-
I was going to anyway, but Lauren reminded me when I got my second car that I should stick with V-Power. Good thing there's a Shell five mins from my door! :-)
-
Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Amber for the fantastic day! You were excellent hosts. The food and drink was greatly appreciated, as was the friendly atmosphere. I have a feeling I'll be coming back once your ramps are installed so I can get my Milltek system fitted. Thank you for the great price for my new tail lights, too!
-
Bit of a trek, but I'll be there and will probably bring Melanie with me. Happy to pick up the boss on the way if you need a lift, Rob.
-
KevinA: Thank you for the offer. What have you got? Also, if you are just around the corner, what time are you heading over to Amber? Convoy?
-
Count me in! I need to hear what all the different 'zorsts sound like as I want a new one. The stock one is far too tame, after I went for a ride in Lauren's car. I could almost feel her car this morning as it pulled away from my house.

Farewell meet for suggestable - Grasshopper 9th August 2pm
suggestable posted a topic in Social Meets
A sad day indeed, but I am leaving the UK and moving to Ireland to live in Dublin and drink Guinness. I'm hoping there will be interest in a meet. I haven't had my GT86 for nearly a year now, but I still love you guys! Time is a suggestion at this point, but as it's summer it makes sense to take advantage of as much of the sunshine as possible :-) Please reply to let me know you're interested, and I'll edit the post to contain a list of names. 1. rob275 2. Special K 3. smudge 4. Keethos 5. Kristov4 6. faith -

What time do you reckon you'll be done? I might pop along earlier. I was happy to be there for 11, after all. A long, slow, easy day is fine by me ;-) -

No worries Keith. I'm currently at Symantec and they're not exactly small... Group buys of what, exactly? Branded merchandise? AdWords credit? Glass? Nexus devices? Search Appliances? :-) Hopefully see the rest of you there! -

Thank you all for the wonderful replies. Sorry I've been a bit slow to respond... I've been rather inundated with social events recently and that's a trend that's highly likely to continue until I leave the country. On a practical note, does anyone have any recommendations for international removals companies and self-storage places in Dublin? For those interested, I will indeed be working for Google. It'll also be my dream job there. More info at the meet as I am really, really not allowed to post on a public forum about what I'll be doing there I've said this to all my techie friends already, but if anyone wants a referral, I'd be only too happy to help someone I know. I'll update my initial post momentarily with smudge, Keethos, Kristov4 and faith added. :-) See you all soon! --Sarah (yes, a girl... but most definitely *not* a "lady", despite what Keith might wish) -
Special Keith: I'd love to see you before I depart for the Emerald Isle. The 9th sounds like a good day. Let's make it happen :-) Can Faith make it too? Sorry for the thread-jacking... Happy to start a new thread if you like. I'm sure there'll be interest in another meet, even if the people going don't know me.

Unfortunately, if this is still happening on the 30th of August, I won't be able to make it. I've been offered (and accepted) a job in Dublin with Google, so will be leaving the UK in a month's time. If anyone wants to meet up with me for a "goodbye" drink (perhaps at the Grasshopper?), please get in touch. Most of you have me on Facebook and other places :-) If anyone fancies setting up an event on here for it, then Saturday 2nd August works well for me. The 9th is also possible. I'm leaving the UK on the 28th of August. Sarah

@Arekkz: Which red car? Mine was in that photo and damn it looked good! Shame it was sporting a little front bumper damage on the day, but that was soon resolved. I look forward to seeing all my DC friends there and hope to make some new friends, too. :-)
