So, the other week I got locked out of my 86. It was a bit of a perfect storm of circumstances, and I put this here as a tale of experience so hopefully it will serve as a timesaver for someone who finds themselves in the same situation in the future... So a bit of context. Car was parked on an incline, with the nose raised - this meant the doors were wanting to close with the aid of gravity. I'd unlocked the car, but mistakenly only pressed unlock once, rather than twice to do both doors. I opened the drivers door, put my wallet/phone/keys on the drivers seat leaving the door open, then went around to open the passenger door for my sons, so we can start the game of trying to get a 5 year old into the back seat! As I got to the passenger door and tried to open it, the drivers door started to close of its own accord. It stopped on the first part of the 'latch', i.e half open. I tried to open the passenger door and found it was locked. I went back to the drivers door and to my horror found that the door would not open. The window was still slightly retracted, but the door handle would not engage and so the door wouldn't open. Even more annoying was that I was blocking someone in... A friend and I got a piece of packaging banding, made a loop and managed to hook the interior door handle. However, despite being able to fully retract the handle the door would still not open. By now I'd already phoned my wife who was bringing the spare key over so had nothing to lose so I did what didn't make sense. I closed the door fully, and the window went back up into the closed position. Tried the door and... it opened! So there you go - if you find yourself with a door on half latch that's not opening and your keys are in the car, close the door and then the handle will work. Save yourself the 50 minutes of trying to use the interior handle!

I had AP 4 pots on my last car and they were fantastic, only issue was with age the pins and pad holders have a tendency to corrode into the caliper itself which can make pad changes a little awkward. Buy some in as spares else when you change the pads you’ll not be able to finish the job. Bleed nipples have a habit of snapping too, having those extracting is a bit scary for the engineers haha!

Got some TRD style aero fins coming soon, wondered if anyone's got a guide on how you remove the standard parts? Cheers
-
Perhaps, but then how far do you go? Most of the TRD spoilers aren't 'real'. I think for me the line stops with something that's functional. In that case, for me I'll want the original best working part. But just cosmetics? Not so important for me personally. I've got no idea what kind my fins will be, but if they're stick on I'll hardly cry a river.

Saving 250 quid or more of import and scene tax I guess - especially when 99% people won’t tell the difference.
-
Yeah, I got the hairdryer out which made it a lot easier to get large clumps off, then broke out the glue dissolver and microfibre cloths. Got there in the end though!
-
...and just came across this, d'oh! No pics tho - any chance of a rehost? @Keethos
-
Normally guys it's not an issue. However I was at my Jujitsu club and was wearing my Gi trousers. They don't have pockets, chains, loops etc.

Yesterday the weather was nice and bright so had a go at those badges. Rear came off nice and easy but the front put up more of a fight, and the glue/gunk it left behind took nearly an hour to get off! I had a good old laugh at this as well... Yes, that's the Toyota emblem badge!

I think @Lucas@PartBox got distracted by this thread haha! -
Also debadged the Toyota and 86 logo. Need to get that my black logo badges on now, I think that'll set the back off nicely. Just need some decent weather!

Picked up a ODB interface and put Dash Command on my phone. Obviously I don't have a base reading from stock, but LTFT's are sitting at about +8 to10%. No idea if this has 'richened' up to compensate for the extra air flow.

What's it like on the motorway? I spend a fair amount of time on the M6 so bass drone would be a concern.
-
Bugger. Looks like I need to get a cat back first then. Don't really want to be paying out for a another remap.
-
If you keep the stock exhaust and have the manifold/map package I guess you lose out on a few horses. If at a later date you swapped for an aftermarket exhaust would it need remapping again?
-
Shame about their limited mileage though

3rd down is fine for me. 1st to 2nd however is the mother of all you know whats. I end up pulling away in 2nd some times until the gearbox oil warms up!
-
Well just an update to the intake side of things. I do think that the ECU has buggered around and compensated the improvement away. It's certainly no worse than when it had the stock air box, but it's lost the improvement in torque I initially had. I guess this would be reinstated with a proper remap, but that's not on the cards for now. At least I know that when I do have enough for the manifold/remap I should see some strong gains overall.

Autobrite Direct's Leather cleaner and conditioner are superb - a quick wipe on mine (had dreaded two tone by the thumb grips) had it back to brand new. Couldn't believe how much it shifted - I was damn ashamed! Their Xmas sale starts on the 2nd Nov, might be worth waiting for it to be on offer.

Pressing the trip meter button when the ignition isn’t on is handy too 👍🏻
-
Get it done quick smart. I saw the invoice for my warranty work and it was over £800 to get both sides done!
-
My dash cam paid for itself in 4 months when (in my previous car) a Lithuanian lorry hit me. Well worth having imho.

Cheers mukka 👍🏻 I’ve got some stuff coming through from Amazon so saves using up your supplies. Wrong time of year to be spraying mind haha!
