*SOLD* 2012 Supercharged Silver GT86
ThatGuyThere replied to MangoNo5's topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Cars
You could strip every modification and the car would be worth that price. An absolute bargain. -
Everything is relative. Driving it back to back with a 325ti though, and the engine is so much nicer in the BMW which cost a tenth of the GT86. Same MPG in the real world, sounds better, smoother, more torque, same BHP. Not that I'm comparing the cars, but the engine in the GT86 remains meh.
-
Cool, thanks for sharing. Still a noticable dip then if keeping stock manifold. Agreed on engine - it's a little meh.
-
Yeah it's designed in such a way that it restricts flow. I'd love to know if anyone has remapped using stock header though, and the results...
-
There's no denying that a header and remap makes a massive difference which you would enjoy daily.

Have you guys seen how much BRZS are going for in auto trader
ThatGuyThere replied to Jay Bamrah's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
A year ago my car was worth circa 11k - right now they are selling for 13-14k and even wbac are offering 12k. Anything sporty and in limited supply is seeing the same crazy increases. -
Can only speak for the non-smoked ones, but it's never been a problem for MOTs. I'd be astonished if any MOT tester checked for emarks on light clusters!

wanted gt86 or brz red or white

Be more specific... -
Neither of those are required!

Fitting coilovers is really easy. To do the springs you'll need a spring compressor. Fitting aside, if you're not wanting to go super low then springs is probably the best option.

brake pads/discs - main stealer or local garage?
ThatGuyThere replied to saxon's topic in Mechanical
Rears took me about 15 minutes per side and I'm no mechanic. Ask your local guy and including labour it should be less than £100. If you're skint then ignore upgrades and don't change discs unless you need to... -
HKS has a design flaw and should be avoided. I don't think the turbos really have a lag issue, but can't personally testify. Can absolutely testify to the HKS being a shit design though!
-
Agreed with all of that. Mine failed outside of warranty period, but after very few miles. Mark was helpful diagnosing remotely that the SC had failed and I didn't feel he was in anyway responsible at the time, but I did assume that no reputable people were still selling the HKS SC due to the many documented failures. Mine was a V2 fitted in 2015. I did a lot of reading around the topic when mine failed, and I've kept an eye on topics since then, and as per my comments above - Mark's comment this week was the first and only acknowledgement I've seen that HKS accepted there was an issue and had changed the design. But from Mark's lack of detail I'm suspecting there hasn't been any changes made and it's more that no one buys the HKS kit any longer because there are several alternatives without poor reputations. Hard to know, but I'd still stand by my strong recommendation that the HKS unit is to be avoided.
-
They didn't reply to emails or voicemails. I wanted to understand what has changed in the design. It's fine, I guess that's all the info Mark has to share.
-
My name isn't relevant, not sure demanding people publish their full name before simple questions are answered is remotely normal. Your answers are vague and your behaviour seems shady. "Well known tuner" perhaps but our exchange above speaks volumes. Up until 3 days ago I thought you were a good guy. Not going to continue this, I've tried in good faith to get clarity.
-
No I'm not Clive, nor do I know of anyone called Clive. I'm not trying to trick you, or do anything underhand. I was just surprised initially that you still sell the HKS SC, and then even more surprised that you acknowledged a design flaw which had been resolved because that's the first I've ever heard of it. This is so strange I have to say. Why can't you answer the question about what has been changed in the design of the supercharger? I'll ask once more, then I'll just leave it to others to draw their own conclusions. Mark, can you explain what has been changed in the design of the HKS supercharger since the initial batch which you acknowledged above were flawed?
-
Yeah I let my frustration seep through because he was ignoring my question while replying to others in the same thread!
-
How strange. Newest version of Firefox and does the same with my adblock plugin disabled. Has been this way for some time on both my laptop and pc. Not a major issue obviously.
-
You bored my dude? https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=white knighting
-
It's relevant if the guy who is considering buying one is not being told it has a design flaw, his comment which you've not put into this thread, but fair enough.
-
It's not defamation if its true. The HKS SC has a well known design flaw. Another thing common on social media is white knighting. Perhaps mind your own?
-
I'd just like to understand what has been changed in the design of the HKS supercharger. Not an unreasonable question. You had the time to reply to many other comments today, post screenshots etc. We've exchanged emails, you fitted the HKS sc to my car which failed after less than 10k miles. If the design has changed, which is the first I've ever heard about such a thing, why are you reluctant to explain how?
-
Sold a faulty product. Still selling what is now well-known to be a faulty product. Ignoring a simple question to clarify.
-
Not in Firefox. Has been that way for a year or so. It'll be something to do with the secuity certificate.
-
Hi Mark, how was the HKS design "sorted" please?
