Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013
ThatGuyThere replied to Lauren's topic in Mechanical
It takes longer to remove the undertrays, than it does to replace the manifold and overpipe - half of which have to be removed anyway to do the recall! I asked for the 5 year / 60k service to be done at the same time, and was originally quoted the fixed price rate. I complained, politely, even saying "When I mentioned this on the online forum everyone said it was obscene" and they dropped the price to merely the cost of sparkplugs. I'd ask them to drop the price to a more reasonable one. Doesn't hurt to ask. I can't comment on the oil baffle. -

Hmmm, I had similar total lack of silencers (plus supercharger) and my cold start was LOUD too, but not with the unpleasant tone yours gives. Is that 'ticking' noise just the camera mic being slightly distorted or is the sound a good representation? Perhas the UEL makes the difference with the cold start - although when revving it sounds so similar to mine (I'm surpirsed how little difference there is between the EL and UEL listening to that). -
Any reasonable solution to battery drain?
ThatGuyThere replied to 303's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Sounds very frustrating. It is ridiculous how poor these cars are when it comes to battery drain for people who don't use them daily. Firstly, your battery needs replacing. If it's died that many times, it's now not worth dealing with and is compounding your misery. Buy a new and large capacity one, and start from there. That along with the solar panel mentioned above will do the job. Out of interest, pre-covid how many days a week did you drive it, and since lockdown how many days is it now being driven? -

Heh, yeah it'll be loud but they do sound tremendous. Mine was very similar, I would agree with the cold start - although I never bothered because I don't do early mornings so didn't feel too bad for my neighbours. It was surprisingly reasonable on the motorway, although did highlight how shite the OEM speakers are. Looks good so shiny! I should polish mine before relisting for sale. -
I think the boot beeping (when the car is locked but the boot is open) is when it cannot see the key - i.e. you've moved away from the boot but it's still open. I think mine does the same from time to time. You'll find it also does it if you leave the car door open and walk away? Try replacing the battery in the fob - they do not last long. The stereo is god awful - the UI and design are all the worst of any car I've seen. I have my phone connected via bluetooth with a holder next to the stereo so I never have to use the "touch" screen. That combined with an upgrade to the Focal speakers mentioned above means I'm content. The volume knob is still shite though.

Why isn't this suitable?

Billy, you're going to waiting years (decades?) for this. Just buy a car, get the remap/header done and trust the many, many, many people who have said it makes a big difference over standard

Yeah I over-priced it I realised (now, a year later) but fair enough on the tips! -

How about something similar but a little more unique? I still have this sat in the garage because I haven't gotten around to bumping the thread: -
How often do Turbo'd cars come up for sale? Reliable?
ThatGuyThere replied to infernouk's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
They're reliable. A fair few come up - there have been two turboed ones for sale on here recently both reasonably priced. although if you are being picky on colour as well then you will struggle, obvs. -
Buy a brand new GT86 right now, or not.
ThatGuyThere replied to RogerM's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Fuck that. Buy a used one, spend the money saved on a turbo. No brainer. -

I can highly recommend the focal kit to replace the front speakers. Get some sound deadening material to put in the doors while you're in there. Made a huge difference in mine, and I then just adjusted the stereo to front speakers only. With the subwoofer, it'll be perfect. -
Fuck. So sorry to all who knew him. Much love.

Buy this one - then you don't need to spend thousands making your purchase better: That option aside, it's hard for anyone but you to know if you want to spend an extra £5000 or not. Is there anything wrong with a GT86 on 50k mileage? No, not at all. Accident damage is easy to spot, and the clutch is unlikely to be worn and even it it was, it's not as though you wouldn't have the money to replace it. Be sensible, spend less. Or avoid all risk, and spend more. Either way, try not to over-think it and just go!

Ouch! Part of me is impressed at how committed y'all are to environmental issues. If all countries had done the same then innovation would have progressed much quicker and I could envigage a gt86-a-like with an electric powertrain by now (and, ya know - perhaps kept global warming to a managable level).
-
Do they also limit imports in similar ways?
-
God damn, you're due some good luck! Glad some prgress is being made. Enjoy the updates.
-
I don't really understand how that's possible! I average 33mpg. I don't really do long journeys I guess - maybe that's it. I'm mainly around town and villages, stop/start driving.
-
They're very cheap to run and maintain, mpg is worse than you'd think though. But paying that amount monthly...hmmm. There's so many other interesting cars for £400 a month! I'd go for an older/cheaper gt86 personally - the cars are well made and don't age badly.
-
I had mine lowered 40mm+ on coilovers with slightly larger than standard wheels. It rode almost the same as on standard wheels/suspension. Went over all speedbumps, no fuss.
-
TBF, I get 33mpg so I wouldn't call the boxer engine efficient and modern. Not sure I see the point in an LS swap, when a turbo gives 320hp and weighs significantly less. But, each to their own and I'll enjoy seeing it done!
-
Cool. It is undoubtedly the worst designed part of our interiors - whoever signed off on it needs a slap. Probably the same person who specced the volume knob on the stereo!
-
I think wrapping it in fabric could be the way to go tbh.
-
So we agree at least, that any difference is barely perceptible. My main point being forced induction would not put off any potential customers.
-
A lag before the turbo kicks in - yes, slightly - but the 2l engine still works...
