Help - want to lower the BRZ what my options
ThatGuyThere replied to richardcarman's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
My coilovers are terrible for country roads. Really, terrible. So, your mileage may vary. -
What does this mod do?
-
320bhp in a car this light means you're very quickly going far too fast. Fuel economy for short journeys is 22mpg. No regrets though.
-
I wasn't aware of any that didn't ask for the usual 5/6 years. TIL. Same boat as you, 2 accidents in quick succession, and a supercharger. I found Complete Cover Group - PRESTIGE in the insurance section, to be reasonably priced. Nearly half what Adrian Flux quoted. All mods covered in full. Even implied if I upgraded my brakes the price would come down

Closest I saw was a product from Australia, which provided the mounts, and wiring connections to deal with the pass-through. By the time you've got the speakers, mounts, wiring connectors - it seemed to me that £130 for a simple-swap and good quality speakers was worth it. Which alternative speakers are you considering? To be fair - even £30 ones would be a lot better than stock - but you need the tweeters too!

Is there anything else I can try with my suspension before replacing it
ThatGuyThere posted a topic in Mechanical
Hi again Got my wheel alignment done, close to what I wanted. It wasn't too far out anyway despite the rise in height. I was hoping it would make the car more pliant, but no. The ride of this car is awful on the roads I drive on. Trying to accelerate even at low revs over bumpy surfaces, feels like the rear is bouncing around far too much and the revs go up and down despite no traction control light flickering. I don't mind firm suspension, within reason - but right now it is IMPOSSIBLE to make even mildly quick progress on a lot of the roads locally. I've tried a variety of damping settings on my coilovers (ST XTA's) and while softer does make the ride less harsh, it doesn't really address the main problem, which is how badly the rear wheels seem to react to uneven surfaces. I will admit, the roads I drive on are very poor, and not at all flat and smooth. This video gives an idea, I drive this exact route daily, and the road is not enjoyable at all in my GT86 - I feel I'd make quicker progress in my girlfriend's underpowered hatchback. Am I hitting the bumpstops? Do I need more travel and bigger shocks? Is there some other part that could make a difference? -
Thanks. Just bought this, and the focal speakers I'll hold off on the HU for now.
-
Glorious. Thanks again. How quickly does it "boot up" compared to the standard stereo?
-
How long does it take to boot up? I'm totally put-off by the claim of 30 seconds above - I am in and out of my car quite a lot during the day so ideally don't want a delay more than the OEM. Thanks for info.
-
Lovely stuff, thanks. Did you get one of the cheapy fascia panels to fill the gaps in the dash, and if so do you have any photos - I don't want to make the cheap dash any worse!
-
Very useful post, thank you. Can I ask which HU you went with, and did you utilise the small amp that you purchased with the speakers? If so - where did you mount it? Many thanks again.

Is this something that would swap over and fit into a pre-facelift gt86 does anyone know?

I've not driven these roads with standard suspension, the coilovers came with the car. Toe is zero, front and rear camber are just under -2. Lower tyre pressure makes it a little better - they were down at 25 last week before I inflated them to 32. They are set at the highest recommended height - that was the first thing I did after buying the car. -

I'm as high as the manufacturers of the coilovers recommend. So approx 20-30mm lower than standard. -

Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres. Stock as far as I know - does this photo help?! -
Would this cover the holes left by the standard gt86 spoiler?
-
Yes, yes it is. Although I have no cats and a supercharger so that amplifies it a little It's also, about to be for sale - if anyone's interested.

I've read a lot around this recently, and the accepted rule is 280bhp is safe with stock internals, any more than that and you need to open the engine up, or cross your fingers. So the best route would be to aim for that, as your stage one, and then save up for rods etc. - most superchargers and turbos are capable of much more, so a re-tune would then give you what you wanted easily. You might find some people saying more than 280bhp is fine - but I'd trust Cosworth, and their testing/experience, over random posts online. Can't comment on the auto box though ::shudder::

Have ST XTA coilovers, which have an adjustable top-mount. Rota Titan Wheels - 17x9 ET42. When I bought the car it was as low as the coilovers recommend. I have raised it to as high as recommended (20mm drop over standard). Have it booked in with a local garage for 4 wheel alignment this Friday, can anyone tell me what settings I should ask for? They suggested I give them some rather than them going with OEM. I'm new to all this, I understand from searching this forum that it depends what I want from the car. I drive mainly on shitty B roads, sometimes on shitty A roads. It's my daily driver, and I'd prefer comfort over absolute performance. It's supercharged, so traction is also a priority. Can anyone recommend a good setting for me? I'm utterly clueless on toe/camber/top-mounts etc. - I will do some reading later about the basics, so I understand the concepts better, but I'd really appreciate if someone could give me some idea of what to request from the garage.

I think we all are! Red ones will obviously go up the most

Wheel alignment on coilovers - what settings?

Many thanks. Really appreciate all the help here. -
Wheel alignment on coilovers - what settings?

Thanks a lot Looking around, it seems the rear isn't too adjustable anyway, so I may be stuck with whatever camber it naturally has on a 30mm drop. -
I think as per this thread: These speakers are a direct swap and do exactly what you are asking for: https://audiovisualworld.co.uk/focal-is-165toy-toyota-model-16-5cm-2-way-component-speaker-kit.html I'm considering the same.

Did you do any sound deadening along with fitting the front speakers? I'm shocked at how much the trim vibrates even with the OEM speakers with a little bass!
