I need to get my books out, but those graphs seem to be telling me that the fluidampr is not as good at damping vibration as the stock damper, and the lightweight pulley does a great job, apart from in the 6th order vibration... In short, if lightweight pulleys were a creation of the devil, many more people would have problems with them - although, these graphs do show that there is a significant difference in behaviour between stock, damped, and undamped, and therefore definite potential for something to happen...
-
The graphs are showing that lightweight pulleys lose power at the top end due to a significant spike in vibration... However, which pulley did they test, and what was the stock pulley like vibration wise is not shown here - probably could look up the original source and find out though... What the first graph is intended to show is that there is a difference between the one they're selling and a lightweight pulley - however, they have only shown one order of vibration which has a large difference, and of course on the internet, that spike means ENGINE DESTRUCTION!

Introducing Rigid Collars - club offer
Sideways? replied to Burn! Motorsport's topic in Burn! Motorsport
Right, had my alignment done on Saturday, I'll try to post the before and after figures when I get time... Given that it has taken me this long (i.e. since December when I said I couldn't commit until after Christmas, and my little man was born) to get the alignment done, it might take me a while to get the collars fitted and then have the alignment checked again, but if that sort of timeframe is not too much of a problem then send a set over and I'll have them fitted and organized from there...! Oh, and can anyone point me in the right direction for the torque requirements for the bolts to be removed in the instructions?? -
That's great, thanks Dan! Exactly what I needed to see to know it would be a bit more involved than just slapping it together... Stupid number plates!!
-
I was thinking of doing something along these lines so that when you go to shows/trackdays you can remove the front number plate and have your car looking (even more) awesome in the photos... Obviously, filled holes a given! Dan, do you still have your "standard" plate, I'd love to see a photo of the GT86 with a standard plate instead of a square plate on the offset holder... I know the holder wouldn't fit properly but it'd give an idea what it would look like...

Man, I think you're obsessed, but it's fun so keep up the good work... Will you get an airbag warning light on the dash or can you turn that off in the ecu??
-
It might be that, depending on the angle of attack of the airflow, you are between separated and attached airflow when going sideways at different speeds/angles of attack. This would result in varying lift characteristics across the rear deck, which would result in varying feel from the rear when drifting... These would then work by ensuring that the airflow over the rear deck would always be separated, and hence, give a consistent feel at whatever speed you were drifting at... Of course, it would depend on the speed of the airflow and you would have to be a hardcore drifting who spends hours drifting in all conditions to really notice the difference... Tbh, you'd probably only notice a difference in "normal" driving when facing a severe cross-wind. I don't think they're worth it, and I think they look bloody awful too!!

Biceps, clutch, traffic?? I'm confused...

Cheers me dears! When I posted I saw it on your mods page, but thanks for posting here too!

Apologies for being thick, but which manifold is it exactly...?

Toyota GT86 Aero vs Subaru WRX STi & SEAT Leon Cupra
Sideways? replied to GT86-Ian's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
"What makes a great driver's car?" 1st Leon: "agile, entertaining, quick." but wins because it is "more refined, cheaper to run, better equipped, and attracts less unwanted attention". Now, I have a Leon FR, so no slippy diff, but it has precisely 0 steering feel. 3rd GT86: "still a brilliant sports car", "agile, adjustable handling and eager NA engine" <-- of course none of these are traits of "driver's cars", only sports cars, which aren't driver's cars are they... -
Stretch is a better measure of torque, but like you, if you can't even use a stretch gauge because of the blind holes you'll have to go for the "normal" torque measurement method - just make sure the threads are clean and suitably lubricated/dry as specified in the instructions...

As Rob said, it is to stiffen the shell. The idea being that the seams between panels can move a little when they are only spot welded, so if you seam weld them they will be stiffer... Looking at the photos I'm not sure how noticeable this will be since the seams seem to be in reasonable positions to minimise this effect in the first place and the shell is already pretty stiff, but then, every little helps and Nige is doing a pretty stunning job so far!!
-
0.5mm gives you about 200cc... Surely it could go out to nearly 2.3ltr, or even 2.5ltr... Wouldn't a stroker kit ruin the "rev-i-ness" of the engine?
-
Nige, in your opinion how much scope is there for over-boring the engine? What do you think is the biggest possible bore?
-
I believe this concern is a hangover from the Subaru impreza engines, this apparently caused trouble with crank position sensor because of the vibration which lead to trouble with the bearings... So far our little rockets don't seem to have the same trouble, since it is a new engine rather than a re-hash of the impreza engine... Having said that, Knightryder is right that the engines are still a little new for this problem to have reared its head "over time"...

you can't "skip" gears, hence, sequential... #becauseracecar

Sign me up I'll have two........... Can't I dream of bling polish chrome... I certainly can't afford it...
-
Following the photos of the Inlet Manifold, it doesn't look too complicated, how hard do you think it would be to have one fabricated with lovely chromed intake tubes - for underbonnet bling - but also because I wonder if the plenum chamber could be contributing to the torque dip because of pulsing/interference between the directly opposing intake runners that are not separated by much distance...
-
Depending on price me too :-) I'm not even lowered yet but I plan to in the long term...
-
As everyone else has said, this thread is awesome! Are you planning on telling the insurance company about the seam welding too, I assume this has an effect on the crash dynamics in a similar fashion to the modifications to the front crash bar...
-
With that much added weight you'll need even more power! :-P

So, are you going for air con delete? Can I ask why...?
