Obviously the standard manifold will not take enough pressure, please design a new one with lovely chromed intake runners for more under bonnet bling :-) it will also be awesome as well of course... Since you have it in bits, how about some photos of the stripped intake manifold for reference...? All looks good otherwise :-)

Thanks for the ride! It sure was slippy, I think we were both praying to the gods of ABS & traction control, especially at roughly 2:50 when those dudes decided to slow right down for Paddock Hill - perhaps they didn't see you coming, since you were a bucket load faster than anything else on track.... It was crazy slippy, after a ride with Speck, then a ride with you I didn't bother to drive again myself, I'd only have ended up mowing more of the grass than I already had - my mate's Elise-a-like kit car isn't exactly much fun in the freezing cold and wet!! Can't believe how fast both GT86's were mind, made me wish I'd got mine on track!! And yes, 6.29 was a full on "we'd be dead if it weren't for TCS" moment, I had a similar wobble in my mate's car - which doesn't have any stability systems - did I mention it was really slippy and wet?!?!

I used my long-term plan to justify buying a Karcher underbody washer thing in the Black Friday deals... It will be with me forever...

Did anyone take up this offer in the end?? I noticed you put some photos of the fitting instructions on the first page, but I can't seem to find them to download and see just how much work is involved... Looking into the rear subframe mounts and so on it actually doesn't look too complicated and almost like nothing major needs to be removed - so I'm still interested if no-one else has taken the plunge already of course Could you please either post a link to download the fitting instructions, or post some larger photos so I can confirm my current thoughts Cheers!!

FIA regulations say the harness needs to be able to support a minimum load of 1,470 daN, which is 14,700 N, or (F = ma) 14,700N / 735N = Approx 20G for a 75Kg person if my calculations are correct............. I found a specification on an Australian Government website which suggested that the ISOFIX top tether should be able to provide a maximum deceleration of 335m/s/s for a 21.4kg load, which results in a strength requirement of 7,169N (21.4 x 335 = 7,169 assuming that 335m/s/s is in fact 34G). Therefore, the minimum specification for ISOFIX is only half as strong as an FIA harness. I haven't looked at the specification for standard seatbelt mountings so I can't say how ISOFIX compares with the standard seatbelt, but in my opinion, the tether / ISOFIX system is not designed to restrain adults and therefore is not a good place to mount a harness. Interestingly in the FIA regulations for European Touring Cars it mentions that you can use the original rear seatbelt lap belt mounting points - I would imagine that would contravene the regulations about the downward angle of the harness, but I think I'd rather go with the CG Lock option for a quick and easy answer!!

Right, I agree about supporting the bumper from splits at low speed, I think I looked too quickly at the original beam and thought it was just a single sheet of pressed steel rather than a 3d beam.... I've not had any of this apart so I'm just going off the photos... Further to that, I think not having a beam between the front chassis legs (open snout?) is a bad idea since they need to be tied together somehow... I didn't realise the other turbo kit required a chop, and that leads me to my final question - do you need such a big intercooler!?!?

I think it should be worth a look, it 25 years since the last Birmingham Super Prix or something so should be fun...

Man, a big part of me wants to say "Yes! Let do this!", but exactly how much work is needed to fit them? A full rear subframe strip & demount?? How much space would you need for that (i.e. could I do it in my single garage??) and how long would it take? Would I need any special tools or just a decent selection of spanners and sockets? Looking at my questions I think the answer for me is that I probably can't manage it myself at the moment, and I probably can't afford to have someone else do it for me... Having said that, I'm very interested in the difference these collars can make because I understand both sides of the discussion, but I don't feel I can commit right now. Anyone else going to go for it since it is a good deal?!

Back on with the foam, my understanding is that it is there as part of the deformable crash structure and looking at the original configuration it is designed to work in harmony with the front chassis rails. In my opinion if you move it you dramatically change the crash dynamics, and since you've used a walloping bit of tube where there was only a flimsy bit of pressed steel, before you might as well not bother with the foam - since really it is not the amount of modification that is important to the function of the foam, it is the fact it has been changed at all... What I'm saying is, if you don't need the foam to mount something else on (i.e. does it provide support to the bumper??), you might as well remove it completely and save yourself the hassle, since changing it or removing it are the same in terms of insurance... Of course, I'm possibly being rather generous to the insurance company that they'll have the same understanding of the crash structure and dynamics as I have explained above but you never know... Perhaps it would be best to ask some insurers first before going any further????

I'm really confused, the foam is the same and in the same place, surely it will still be visible when the bumper is replaced...?? Why not just paint the foam or cut it away using the bumper as a template...????

Spouting some fluff you can ignore as you wish I believe you can run into trouble with an impreza running lightweight pulleys and a lightweight flywheel without a remap... I believe some of the people posting on ft86club.com are basing their assumptions solely on this experience which I don't think is very good grounding. I don't think there are the same problems with the GT86/BRZ since it has a "new" engine design...

Hehehe! Confused.com :-) yes, I can't imagine it would be able to move much but you know what those crazy Americans are like... I don't think the noise will increase much but I don't have any experience with harder bushes on a car that doesn't deafen you in the first place - i.e. my mini was noisey as hell beforehand so the bushes made no appreciable difference to noise... good plan to put it all back stock and see what happens :-)

That does look lovely :-) it will be interesting to see how much more NVH you experience with everything else standard... out of interest, how much do the whiteline bushes raise the diff by??

Did you think about seam welding the subframe of does it not really need it...? Looks good otherwise, I think steveoexige from the other side has upgraded his subframe bushes but not sure which brand he used...

Mine did spend quite a bit of time in the garage in bits but I also drove it a heck of a lot... This is also why with the GT86 I intend to take on the maintenance and perform as much of the upgrades myself once the warranty is over... Hence the ongoing cost will be as small as possible...

I'm going to wait out the warranty period then I have a few moderate modifications planned to keep the interest level consistent... I had my previous car (classic mini) for 10 years without really trying...

Right, got it, I wasn't sure there was some kinda oil flow through it or something because I have to admit not being 100% up to speed on the internals of that supercharger... Anyway, I thought this was a thread about oil coolers? Let's not forget that this is an internet forum and not the real world, people can be as unreasonable as they like BUT we already have a thread discussing meth so let's keep that discussion over there and not clog another thread with unhelpful posts...

Because the meth injection cools the laminova which cools the oil?? That is the only way this makes sense...
