I’ll be there with a black aero, probably going to head straight there as not sure how early I’ll be able to set off! -
Hi guys, So i just got my GT86 used, its had its first service recently before i purchased it. Im currently deciding how to handle its maintenance over my ownership and wanted some advice. The dealer, Steven Eagell doesnt seem that great, they are offering me 20% off servicing because theyve messed me around so much already, but im apprehensive to trust a poor quality main dealer. My mum has a 370Z who they take to Japex, a specialist garage who they say do a great job. So i was considering using them, they maintain the warranty for the car too. So my question is, should I be dodging main dealers with this car at the cost of the 20% saving? especially if my local seems not to be that great and the plan ties me into their dealer network. And secondly how is warranty claiming handled if you dont use a main dealer? Does it still need to go to them if something goes bang? or van valid independents work with the warranty? Cheers for any input here, I am Hertfordshire based

Pmd regarding gear stick and interior bits

Hey all, Was giving my car a good full clean today and was disappointed to notice that my front right bumper as been damaged. It was uneven popped out, the side marker was out of place, i pushed it and it all seemed to pop back into alignment, but there is still this cosmetic damage... I assume this part is fibre glass and so Im kind of screwed in terms of fixing it? its just something i have to live with? Mostly likely it was sustained in a public carpark as those are the only places i leave my car Cheers, and included a couple pics of the finished clean so it isnt all negative!

I’ve booked in -
I know this is a potentially controversial subject due to the image/type of people driving cars with sunstrips, however I always liked their look and wondered if any are offered for the 86? I see many American cars with them but few English! I have had a google and can’t see any UK manufacturers offering them cheers for any links

Sounds better, I wouldn’t call it good but it’s movement in the right direction, I think with a HU, amp and sub it’ll get there, worth the £150 investment anyway for now

Hey guys, Im looking to upgrade the sound quality in the 86 which is really shocking coming from an uprated corsa sound system which wasnt meant to be amazing. I have a nav model but dont like the nav unit at all, so I was considering a new unit. Is there a recommended headunit that fits easily and provides the same functionality but with much better sound quality? Secondly, is there any value in pulling out and flogging the stock headunit? As i dont need it and assumed someone may want to upgrade theirs? I dont use an android phone so wasnt sure of the use of an android unit, im really just hoping for decent sound quality, at a later date I will be adding an amp, sub, door speakers, but this is my first stage for now

Just to add a bit of payoff to this thread, here is todays effort. I got the focals and some sound dampening (silent coat) I didnt have loads of time due to day light and weather, so just wanted to get the basics done, i layered silent coat inside the speaker hole, then mounted the speaker, and stuck a couple more bits on the outside where the doorcard doesnt make contact with the door. No pics of the tweeters as was just pop out and pop in job When the weather is better ill take the cards off again, remove the plastic, silentcoat the rest of the door and get a sheet of isolator over it all. But thats a spring/summer job Now researching headunits so I can run my amp and sub / amp the door speakers but again, a massive job...

Hey guys, Started a new thread as this is beyond the scope of my bloated previous post. Hope thats ok and I think this could be useful to have separate for searching Im now looking at installing a boot amplifier and want to drive my front door speakers and a sub from it, I will remove the rear speakers entirely as they are pointless. Do I have any options here to use OEM wiring to achieve this? I know ill need a power cable from battery ran to the boot, thats fine, but in terms of signal to the amp from the headunit, can i splice the old rear cables for this? The I assume i can connect the fronts back to the amp in the boot and a sub to the amp, and im just going to need to run the on/off signal and the audio signal to the amp? Sorry if i misunderstand this im just trying to piece it together from the various guides online, there arent may that are amping front speakers, mostly just adding a sub, so its tricky to know what applies here. Cheers for the clarification on how it all goes together
-
Cheers, and as a side note if i picked up this HU, it has the RCA outputs in it, so can i just run from this to the amp directly then out to the speakers as traditional custom audio would do? https://www.carjoying.co.uk/android-car-stereo/s-z/toyota-android-car-stereo/toyota-android-car-stereo-head-unit-jy-tm123n2.html
-
would it be possible to do this but run them to the amp first then? rather than direct to a sub? though i feel this only solved amping a sub rather than the doors too
-
Hey guys, i know the threads getting a bit long and beyond scope so was looking for a quick answer on this, If im going to sound proof the rear arches, i figure i may as well run cables for sub/amp at the same time? Has anyone done this, and if so, how does it all look going together? My assumption is, power from battery backwards through car, then tap into the factory amp for the signal and convert the rears signal to RCA for the sub? Hard to find a precise guide on this to make sure I buy everything required to get it sorted My plan was to follow this: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92274

Cheers so in Terms if audio quality I’m looking to focus on layering the doors and then putting a sheet of isolator in, rear arches is more road noise, and that’s the best on a budget I can do?
-
Out of interest, how much more would i need to do my rear arches other than the one door pack i ordered for my doors? or could i get it all done with that? Just want to make sure I have enough material to get the whole job done in one go, currently have the door pack and 2 of those sheets to replace the membrane, i assume beyond doors and rear arches there is a diminishing return on effort?
-
this is getting pricer than I anticipated! ok will order them too
-
would 1 pack/sheet of the isolator do both doors?
-
am i going to need this to replace the plastic sheeting too? https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/silent-coat-isolator-10-large-sheet or can i go without and use the other stuff
-
Thanks, any pics of your efforts?
-
so this will do both my doors well? https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/silent-coat-2mm-mat-door-pack

Light scratch / keying damage on side of car removal?
infernouk posted a topic in Cleaning & Detailing
So in another of my now bi-weekly posts about my car being vandalised, this time i looked at my car door to discover a very feint line running all the way along the wing of the car, wasnt there when i cleaned the car last friday, so its fresh. The scratch appears to be light, i cant feel it, just see it. It runs the length of 1 side of the car. Here are some pics but its a little hard to capture with the cars shine, hopefully it portrays it ok, can this be removed with a polish machine or something? -
ah ok so quite a pricey exercise to do it all properly? seems amazon doesn't list thickness just sizes so ill have to track everything down
-
so you just used a large sheet of silentcoat to replace the plastic, but also used silent coat all over the metal behind where the plastic was / rest of the door? should this much do the job? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silent-Coat-187x265mm-Deadening-Proofing/dp/B00NVF9OIA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1518002400&sr=8-4&keywords=silent+coat&dpID=51D7SAVbY9L&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
