I already have the TD UEL catless header installed, as well as their full catback exhaust with super-resonator. I did try the standard resonator at first but it was too loud. With the super-resonator and a bit of coking up through use, the car is just right in the noise department now.

Not much interest in this thread in recent times? I've ordered my Harrop from Abbey and I'm looking forward to installation on 8/9 October. Does anyone with a Harrop supercharger have any observations on reliability or performance so far?

Count me in, too please.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Do you use the snorkel kit for below sea level driving?
-
Such a shame to lose the Subaru personality, though. Did you consider a dirty great WRX turbo implementation at all? Sent from my LG-Q6 using Tapatalk

I'm going to need a re-quote from Adrian Flux when I have the supercharger installed on 8 October. I've no idea what the uplift will be but I'm paying £499 currently with all NA mods declared.

Just post it to your bank branch with a paying-in slip (there should be some in the back of your cheque book). Cheques are pretty antiquated these days!

Thanks for that, and I agree that Bulldog are a good bunch and didn't bat an eyelid at my TD NA kit. It amused me that I could hear every time they started my car from the waiting room upstairs. Last service, they had cause to remove the super resonator and send it down the road for a weld repair (it had taken a knock by a stone or something). They then started the car to move it and I thought the world had come to an end. The noise!

Interesting tidbit: Mark wants to change the oil and filter as they recommend 5W 30 for use with the supercharger, not 0W 20 that Subaru use in their servicing. My next service at Subaru Bulldog Twyford is going to be fun!

Today I have booked a supercharger install and have selected the Harrop with an expected power increase to around 280bhp and a large dollop of torque across the rev range. Abbey Motorsport will be doing the work in early October. My reasons for choosing the Harrop are: Torque and driveability of superchargers (I have previous experience) Simpler installation and near-OEM look and feel Reliability? Moot, maybe Road use only (I don't track the car) The Aussies have a lot of experience tuning Japanese cars Harrop are a known company with a good reputation Feel free to chip in and tell me I'm wrong, but very approximately I tend to think turbos for outright power (track) and 'chargers for midrange grunt (road).

I'll start a new thread, sorry to have hijacked this one. -

It's around £5900 for the kit, installation and dyno tune. I am now negotiating an installation date. It's a two-day job and they'll give me a courtesy car for the night. -

I've now spoken with Mark at Abbey Motorsport and he has been very helpful, answering my questions and sending me a quote by return. I need to do some logistics planning but I'm now looking at the Harrop as my potential solution. It all fits in with my use as a daily car, for road use only, mindful of a very progressive feel especially in the wet and the snow, near OEM installation looks and fairly quiet, making great use of the TD manifold and catback exhaust and HKS intake duct, retaining the stock 2nd cat, limiting the maximum torque in the map to preserve the engine and enjoying the charger's big engine feel. Have I missed anything? -

Exactly that. I've had my BRZ dyno tuned on every major mod and there is no real substitute, compared with base maps that don't quite match your car. -

I've had three turbo cars and one with a supercharger. The turbos all, to a greater or lesser extent, had that 'dead' lag followed by a big shove way of working. The supercharger just gave a good slug of extra torque from low revs and was more progressive. My BRZ is my daily driver for the 60-mile commute each day. I can't help thinking that a supercharger will be the better option for me. I've looked closely at the Cosworth and the Harrop. I eliminated the Sprintex as, although great fun, it's hardly stealth and I don't want my car to be any noisier than it is (my CR-Z had a Sprintex). Then there's the TD turbo, but the installation time is a week and they are 4 hours away. Most of the superchargers need 1-1.5 days for installation and the installers are much closer to me. Fensport have a Cosworth in stock and I'm talking to Mike at Abbey Motorsport tomorrow about the Harrop. Both will provide around 280bhp with a big torque increase - perfect for road driving. I'm just gathering my thoughts on what I might do next. -

May I ask where you got the Harrop from in the UK? -
Welcome! I have a friend with a 350Z. How do you find the comparison?
-
Hi Mark and welcome. It's a shame that the rotary engine is so fragile because it's such a cool idea, but Mazda have never really been able to improve its reliability.
-
It snows a lot where I live, but the whole thing only lasts for two weeks otherwise being very wet throughout winter. For that, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons in 215 size on stock wheels is outstanding in those conditions and got me up a nasty incline in our lane which had me stranded the winter before.
-
Well done - it's a very enjoyable combo. You'll love driving the country roads with the window open.
-
I'm sorry to say this but - yuk - what a total dog's breakfast he's made of that car. All the beautiful lines are ruined, it looks like a cheap body kit badly installed. It's all in the eye of the beholder, of course.

I'm still on the original 45Ah battery and it's 2 1/2 years old now. I agree that it's a usage thing, mine is used virtually every day and so far has started fine. Sent from my LG-Q6 using Tapatalk

Thanks, Will. I have a TD decat manifold so I guess the Cobra on its own would be taking a risk with the MOT.
-
Can I just ask: is the Cobra cat less effective (emissions) than the stock one?
