I saw a post on FB from someone who had just bought a gear knob from BilletWorkz. I had a look at their site and the next thing I knew, I had ordered myself one as a Xmas pressie. I'll post a piccie when it arrives.

Kouki 86 low mileage direction - Supercharger/Lightweight/GR
MartinT replied to Feemono's topic in Modifications
Having had both Sprintex and Harrop chargers, go for the Harrop which is a better solution, has less heat problems, and can give you excellent torque low down, transforming the engine. How about boring out the FA20 to 2.2l, using forged parts and then supercharging it? That would be a pretty mighty solution. If I could afford the off-road time, I would do exactly that to my engine. -
Get a decent Android head unit that will let you stream any internet radio you like. I have an older Eonon Android 9 that works well, the newer models run Android 10. You can either use a SIM with dongle or do as I do and just tether your phone.

I had the engine/gearbox mounts changed today at Abbey Motorsport. The bag labels say TRD, but the parts are stamped Subaru, so I guess they are identical to the STi parts. The new mounts are a whole world of difference in terms of handling. The chassis feels tight and precise, there is no jerkiness on pull-away and the whole car just feels more stable and better planted. This is what was needed to complement the Bilsteins. There is no more gearbox noise than before. It was a very worthwhile upgrade for the cost.

It's just Sainsburys Super. You get Nectar points, too. Sent from my Oppo X3 using Tapatalk

70k service next week at Abbey. They will be installing the STi/TRD engine and gearbox mounts and, hopefully, that will tighten up response. Ride quality on the Bilsteins is firm but pretty good, only getting choppy on bad surfaces. The handling is perfectly set for road use for me, where the 80-mile daily commute keeps my mods sensible. I swear performance has crept up of late, although it could just be the cold winter air. Perhaps the Sainsburys Super formula has improved, a necessity of filling up twice a week. Mileage has improved further to 32.9mpg. I still love this car, and believe me that commute really tests my patience with any car. It's always nice to catch up with Scott and quaff their nice coffee, too.

Nice - I think of my BRZ as possibly my swansong and certainly my final vehicle with an engine.

I didn't know Rogue made one. Sent from my Oppo X3 using Tapatalk

Thanks, that's useful to know. I really don't want more noise and if the power is hard to tell a difference with then there's no point. I'm using Rogue manifold > OEM front pipe > TD super resonator > TD exhaust (Harrop supercharger). The Rogue is very similar to the Ace and it has the twin overpipe for true 4-2-1 flow.

I use the OEM front pipe with my catless Rogue manifold and Harrop supercharger. I don't have any trouble with the MoT but I, too, have wondered about a Cobra or Berk hi-flow cat. Sent from my Oppo X3 using Tapatalk

How are you finding it so far?

Welcome to the supercharger club!

Over-revving or sabotage?

Welcome to the club! Nice to see another BRZ, they're a rare sight on the roads where even a GT86 is an unusual spot.

As commented in FB, Lauren, I feel for you. It's so unique that hopefully the Police will be able to trace it before it gets reworked beyond recognition.
-
It's only my opinion, but it would be way too loud. It would drive you nuts on any extended trip, let alone the people around you.

Hello and welcome to the white car club

Thanks - I discussed it with Scott earlier and have ordered all three TRD mounts. The STI mounts are the same, but more expensive. I do have the MTech gearbox inserts and they do make it feel slick. There is a small amount of whine in the lower gears but not 5th/6th, which is fine.
-
That's good to hear, Will. Thanks for the info. I've ordered a set from Scott.

I asked Scott at Abbey Motorsport about a slight amount of forward/backward lurching when laying down power, thinking it might be the engine damping. He recommended a set of TRD engine mounts. Does anyone have any experience of them? I'd like to dampen the engine a bit without getting too much NVH through into the cabin. Remember, this is my daily driver.

It's hard to predict what the car market will be by then. A Porsche Cayman comes to mind, but there's plenty of time to think about it.
-
When I do sell my BRZ I won't be putting it back to stock. I haven't kept the original parts anyway, but to be honest I buy a car and use it for my daily commute so I'm getting maximum value from it. I don't expect to yield much value at the end and I never expect to recoup the cost of the mods. That isn't the point, I've already enjoyed their value. It won't be for 3-4 years yet, when I retire.
-
You'll have to search harder for a BRZ because there are so few of them. It's worth it, though, for the rarity and the funny questions often asked about it.

My fronts lasted 45k and my rears are still good at 64k.
