Mike@TD.co.uk replied to Nicebiscuit's topic in Mechanical
Around town and short journeys we see low to mid thirties from our turbo car. On a run we're into the 40's rather easily. Come and see what you think of our turbo kit? it's delivery is nice and linear much like that of a charger, yet gives plenty of headroom for future upgrades -
I like it as it is Mark, the core is subtle and not easily spotted when passing by, only when looking head on can you spot it

Tuning Developments GT86 Turbo 'TD86'
Mike@TD.co.uk replied to Mike@TD.co.uk's topic in Tuning Developments
I thought I had replied to this already...! Apologies. Basically what Dan stated above, plus we wanted to try one our for ourselves in order that we can give honest feedback on it for customers If, for whatever reason we didn't prefer it, we still have the stock diff here too for backup- 94 replies

Tuning Developments GT86 Turbo 'TD86'
Mike@TD.co.uk replied to Mike@TD.co.uk's topic in Tuning Developments
Hi Dan, We didn't want the cons of a plated type diff, the clunks and noises when maneuvering at low speeds and such like. We wanted a silent operating unit which we now have We're confident it'll be a noticeable improvement over the stock type diff, we'll report back once we've got some more mileage on it Try and get yourself a test ride in a few different setups, see what works for you, the joy of our setup is future proofing Cheers Mike- 94 replies

At the moment there isn't a plan for self fit, the pricing structure of the package we've put together makes the fitting of the kit very well priced- 94 replies

Tuning Developments GT86 Turbo 'TD86'
Mike@TD.co.uk replied to Mike@TD.co.uk's topic in Tuning Developments
Haven't posted much about our car recently, over the Christmas break we decided to use some of the time to make some more progress with our 86. We gave the car a full check over and an engine oil and filter change. Everything checked back perfectly fine and nothing is out of place which is reassuring Our exhaust system is coming upto 3 years old now just like the car is and is holding upto the usage and the elements perfectly. Took the opportunity to clean the wheels properly and get a new layer of wheel sealant on them. For those that don't use something similar, try it, it makes washing them so much easier! We've had some parts lined up for a while that we've wanted to test fit and try out, so on we went with the first: Stock propshaft pictured below: And then the carbon propshaft Fitment of this is perfect, as to be expected. Having test driven the car afterwards we were expecting some extra noise through the car after hearing reports, however on our car we haven't noticed anything different from a noise point of view! We have ran the car up on both the dyno upto speeds nearing 135mph and on the road up to the speed limit without any vibration issues too. The stock propshaft weighed in at 10.93kg versus 5.17kg of the Driveshaft Shop Carbon Propshaft, a healthy saving of over 52% Next on the list was the MFactory LSD: Differential removed ready for strip down: Differential stripped and final drive swapped onto the MFactory LSD: MFactory LSD assembled with new genuine Toyota differential bearings: Stock differential assembled and back together with MFactory LSD: And finally, installed back into the GT86: We'll report back on this after we have had a proper chance to give the car a workout, initial driving at cruising speeds and around town are good, the differential is nice to drive with, very smooth and silent in operation as to be expected. Once we've had a chance to run it with some boost for some more mileage and in both dry and wet conditions we'll give a better update Then we set onto our stage 2 parts of the turbo kit. Consisting of: Uprated Exedy Clutch Kit (Previously installed) Uprated Port Injector Set Uprated Fuel Pump Kit Larger 3bar Map Sensor 3 Port Boost Solenoid With Boost Control Via ECUTeK The parts all went on a treat as we anticipated and then the car made its way onto the dyno to start with the mapping process: We've still more work to do with the file until we're happy with it, however the first impressions are very good! Some base figures for comparison: Stock Car 184bhp & 160lb.ft Stage 1 Turbo Kit 5psi 278bhp & 230lb.ft (+94bhp & 70lb.ft) Stage 2 Turbo Kit 8psi 338bhp & 275lb.ft (+60bhp & 45lb.ft) The Stage 2 setup is making much more power for such a small increase in boost which we're both impressed by, the stage 2 setup is a whopping 154bhp & 115lb.ft more than the stock car. The boost control setup however delivers the power in a nice linear feel, and doesn't just deliver everything at once in a Hulk fashion. The drive is great even on this early revision of tune. We're currently working on progression with the map at the moment but it gives a good indication of the power output available at this level. This will be available as an upgrade package for those with the baseline kit already installed or as an add-on to anyone purchasing a new turbo kit. Pricing and final dyno graphs to follow soon. All in all its really starting to come together now and we're both really enjoying driving it. We will be upping the boost further with our own car for our own R&D once the 8psi tune is finished, upto 10psi and then hopefully 12psi. However 8psi will be the Stage 2 maximum for retail purposes and reliability. The next stage for us then will be changing over to forged conrods and forged pistons, the latter of which we have worked with CP to custom design for us. This will allow us to run more boost reliably and get above 400bhp. More information on that when the time comes There is a short video on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-r1mvVjzX0 Finally, a couple of photos of it now its clean: Thanks- 94 replies

GT86 Turbo Kit & BRZ Turbo Kit from Tuning Developments
Mike@TD.co.uk replied to Mike@TD.co.uk's topic in Tuning Developments
Sundays, give me a shout prior bud as it varies Monday & Tuesday we're here until 6pm bud. We're dialling everything in at 8spi for now, then with our own car we will be increasing the boost past this level yes Cost i'm sorting out as a package roll-in, roll-out as we do with the turbo kit Mark, will keep you posted bud. We've tailored the boost to come in early but not all in one big hit, thus giving a nice progressive torque band as it comes onto boost, it is low down torque that will kill the engines, and we're currently sitting around 250lb.ft initially, rising to 275lb.ft with our car which will be on the safe side of bending any rods. Plenty of folks are running in excess of 300lb.ft on stock engines so we're not worried at this level. The boost control via ECUTeK will be dialled in with over boost protection and will make adjustments itself to ensure all is well and behaving itself. The joy of using a larger frame turbo as we are doing is that generally it will need less boost pressure to make power, as we've seen with ours so far, thus in return working the turbo less, reducing heat and also charge temps Also worth noting that it doesn't have to be ran at 8psi all of the time, 2 or 3 seconds for a map change on the fly and you're back to 5psi We will be upping the power further on our car prior to going onto a built engine in the future and will report back with findings as usual As per above to Kevin really Jay, this level of tune doesn't worry us -

GT86 Turbo Kit & BRZ Turbo Kit from Tuning Developments

Small video of the stage 2 package with some dyno footage from this week. We're now up from 5psi to just 8psi and the performance increase has impressed us both! Still more work to be done to finalize things and get the finished article to post up, our car is making more power than quoted in the video though Car still drives like stock with the new components and once final refinements are sorted and dialed in economy when cruising will not be effected. The car is a very healthy 50+bhp and 40+lb.ft over our baseline tune of 5psi. Equates to 145bhp and 110lb.ft over our stock car. Very promising Boost control is working exactly as we wanted it to via ECUTeK, dialing it in nicely now and it is very precise and more importantly very repeatable. We're using a 3port boost solenoid and our TiAL MVR 44mm External Wastegate for control. The control is just as repeatable as running it from the mechanical spring alone which is great. Once we've done some more testing and data logging on the road we'll look at the boost by gear functions and get those setup as an option for people too. Hope everyone has had a great Christmas and has a good New Year -
Indeed, mapping is accommodated in mind of it being a high compression engine with air being forced in. So long as its done carefully, it is reliable. We've tried to break ours.....
-
Most certainly yes, but with the costs involved to get it in and then running, then looking at upgrades for the turbo and so on, I think it'd work out a very expensive conversion
-
Cheaper to boost the FA20 already fitted? For most, the bolt on kits available provide enough of a power increase to satisfy needs?

Part numbers are the same Steve. Remove the TOY from the second one also. SU003-00122 12157-10010 Cheers
