Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013
Lucas replied to Lauren's topic in Mechanical
Booked myself in for Tuesday. They will need the car for 2 days. Courtesy car sorted as well, so happy days. This will hopefully sort out my error code that ECU is throwing when i plug my HKS OBD data reader into my car. It keeps flashing with Camshaft error and faulty VVT system, so hopefully the valve springs will sort this issue. -

Damn, just when I changed the plugs myself the other week. Would of saved me 5 hours and a lot of soap -
Yes, they are on order. We are just waiting for them to be manufactured. We haven't got the ETA, so I think it could be early next year.

@TommyC To be honest, any sort of power upgrade on NA car is valuable. If you think you're going to stay away from Forced Induction for reliability or other reasons I recommend getting this, a decent intake, exhaust manifold and a good cat-back. All that with a remap will make a big difference. Of course, if you are planning on getting a supercharger or a turbo, you don't need to spend this amount of money on the above mentioned mods at all. So at the end of the day, it's up to you.

1) 2) There are known defects like bonnet weather strip collects water and some cars are rusty in that area but it's a warranty fix. Same for the little triangle glass area around the wing mirrors. Water collects in there - again, warranty job so most should be fine now. Underneath, nothing as far as I'm aware, but we'll see in 5 more years how my 2012 car is doing. 3) Correct, outside is the same. 4) Yep, nothing done to the engine, I think that cars 2014/15+ have better coil pack as that's a common fault on pre-2014 cars, though mine has been fine and I'm on 65k miles and still abusing it daily. 5) I would say that the cars are very reliable if you service it well, don't abuse it when the engine is cold and stay N/A. People with s/c or turbo's tend to have some more issues as with any other heavily modified cars. You do not want to go over 300bhp on stock internals or you'll blow the engine. And over 350-400 you're risking to kill the transmission too, so there's that. You should ask someone with a turbo, but I'm not sure how they drive their cars, but I honestly think mine would go 'bang'. Either way, the most reliable way to more power would be Cosworth supercharger or forged engine with a turbo so you won't have to worry about blowing it up. 6) I personally never heard a BRZ/86 sound like an Impreza, even with UEL manifold it's slightly different, but you won't get an exact sounding car, it is a different engine at the end of the day. De-catting the whole system will make the car really loud, but I've never come across any funky smells, just bleeding ears

Frankly, you will struggle with passing emissions, however..there are MOT garages that will pass you.. Though generally speaking, it won't pass.

Car recommendation? 09+ Volkswagen Polo 6R or Up! They are nice little cars for your girlfriend. £3.5k can get you a reasonable car. I had the 6R Polo as my first car and I was really happy with it (except the power ). Or Seat/Skoda alternatives.

Agreed. Take the money and get something that will last. She's lucky the car was still driving on the mud of an oil that must be in it now.

Same thing here, it's not as bad as yours sound, but it's visible in direct sunlight. I'd also appreciate if someone knows how to get rid of it.
