No worries. It's closed now anyway - just waiting on the result.

I've entered a design I made into a competition by a company called blipshift based on a picture I took of an 86. I'd be really grateful if people wouldn't mind voting for it! Competition Thank you!

Chris Knott are also pretty good for price when I've tried them. With all mods declared I'm paying about £400.

Try greenlight too - I've always found them very good. Brentacre too if not already mentioned.

Just wondering if anyones got any experience with these? I've really liked the extra grip my winters have had over the primacys and so am fancying some grippy summers too. Have read some good reviews of the federals and just wondered if anyones tried them?
-
Found a review on tyre reviews from an '86 owner which was very positive - maybe the same person?
-
I wouldn't consider the normal federal options that would be the equivalent of the contisports, etc but these are said to be equivalents of the R1R's, AD08's, etc and the reviews seem excellent.

Indeed Keith! Not sure - nothing massively exciting probably. I've had a very tempting offer on mine so it's definitely got me thinking!

Either going with a set of 18's or possibly a different car!

I'm in the Midlands. Even with higher temperatures tjan the ideal operating range I'm finding the wra3's better than the primacy's
-
I might be a bit in the minority here but I'm loving my winter tyres - the Nokians are much better than the Primacy's in my opinion.

Cheers! Will post up some thoughts when I've had a play. Cheers! Yeah I was very glad / lucky to win it as it was next on my mods to do list. Thank you! Cheers Keith! It was a great day and I was very lucky to get that prize. I was at Abbey for about four hours ish.

Had the car mapped at Abbey on Friday (which Abbey very kindly had donated as a karting prize at the national meet). I have to say Abbey were excellent and a total pleasure to deal with. I've attached the graphs below - the fainter line is the before and the darker the after which Mark achieved after several hours of fettling. As you can see Mark managed to find 13hp and 10lbft extra but what you can really feel is the extra area under the graph all over especially around the 3-5k rpm range where I spend most of my 'normal' driving time. Mark has also quietened down the exhaust at start up a little (although I feel my neighbours would appreciate more!) Map 1 has a softened throttle response which I'm not massively keen on at present but I can imagine being very useful in snow, etc Map 2 is full fat, normal throttle Map 3 has launch control, rev blipping and flat foot shifting as well as what map 2 has Map 4 is for low octane fuel use My car has a catback exhaust and hks drop in filter so obviously bigger gains would be found with more mods (like second cat removed). The map doesn't make a massive difference to how the car drives (not like my last twincharged car where the map gained about 50hp and similar torque) but it definitely adds extra 'sharpness' to the car and is definitely noticeable in day to day driving. Again big thanks to Mark and all at Abbey (apologies for the dog phobic girlfriend!)

Just checked - they were the worlds first producer of winter tyres back in 1936. http://www.hakkapeliitta75.com/en/

Nokian have been making winter tyres for about a hundred years. I'm pretty sure they were one of the first, if not the first, to make them.

Sounds like a plan!

If you have a look on tyre reviews (http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Nokian/) they class the d3 as high performance and the a3 as ultra high performance which is also what the Nokian site seems to suggest. I ran the a3's on my scirocco and they were awesome. When we had lots of snow last year I went to a local pub car park with about a foot of untouched snow purposely to see what they could do. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the car stuck! That was front wheel drive I know but if they could deal with a foot of snow and not get stuck I figure they should be good enough to keep me going in the '86 through the winter!
