The absolute lack of any body roll whatsoever is also pretty amazing

You can relatively easily adjust the ride height but most coilovers will lower the car an amount even at their highest height which is what some people don't want.
-
The AST 2000 or 4100 series are not too bad price wise @Church and could be specced up with longer springs, etc to get the height you wanted.
-
AST or Moton could make you a set with no drop or even a raise if you wanted.
-
Nice wheels too. Wonder if they'd be able to nick the nissan midnight purple colour code for a future edition... 😬
-
I'd recommend the AST springs.

Tim86's Journal - Silver 86 AT - DD & occasional track (East of England)

Definitely marketing blurb I'm afraid. Lots of rally dampers have 'proper' hydraulic bump stops and are monotube. The bump stops in most dampers are rubber - in the flex A's they're a spring. It's basically the same thing just different sprung mediums and the spring design works better to reduce the bump you feel when hitting the bump stops than the rubber bump stops generally do. The performance advantage that monotubes have is they are more consistent at high temperatures (as you could see on track for instance) than twintubes but twintubes ride better. I should also point out I don't have the flex A's anymore so it's not just a case of owner bias!- 36 replies

Haha! No. I've just been through quite a few suspension set ups and of the ones I've tried the flex a seemed the best road biased set up. I've only tried 6 setups so this isn't conclusive by any means though and is just my experience and opinion!- 36 replies

Apologies in that I'd forgotten to square the wheel rate figures so I've done that now. For reference the 6/6 set up gives 5.13 front and 3.34 rear so also front biased.- 36 replies

Yes they are 6/6 as standard although it's better not to get hung up on spring rate as the damping has a massive role to play. They're twin tubes which is one of the reasons they ride so well (twin tubes have a better ride than monotubes usually) along with the hydraulic bump stop system they use.- 36 replies

I was on the GT's and then the Zeta R's as a get me home suspension for a few weeks. I went to the Tein Flex A's afterwards which were a night and day improvement over the Meister R's. I think @don had a set of the CRD's fitted recently but is moving to the Flex A's too I believe (apologies if I'm mixing you up with someone else @don and you weren't who I was talking to at the TD meet!)- 36 replies

Car's looking very good and I'm looking forwards to reading your further updates. Just a couple of points on the suspension - the damping won't really do anything below 16 clicks from fully stiff - it's pretty much as soft as it'll get at this point (this comes from Black Art Designs who help design the Meister R stuff from when I had it on my car briefly). The spring rates they've used now will tend to make the car understeer quite a bit as the suspension design on the 86 means that the front spring rate has an effective rate of 0.925 on the front and 0.75 on the rear if I remember correctly (so front will equate to 4.23 and rear to 2.25). Stock (up to the 2017) is 2.3kg front and 3.8 rear (again, iirc) which equates to 1.97 front and 2.14 rear. So stock is slightly rear biased whereas the Meister R set up is quite front biased which will equate to understeer so a stiffer rear ARB would be a good idea to try to restore the stock balance. The main reason for the softer spring rate at the rear I'd suggest is road comfort rather than ride frequencies as the suspension at the rear is rather space limited.- 36 replies

225/40 is often used on 18's (I'm assuming 8" wide) and will raise the car 5.95mm and will only alter the speedo reading by 1.87%

Which way are you going / what time are you aiming to get there for @lewisw? -
Had the opportunity of something better come along that I couldn't pass up so I'm on a set of Moton Clubsports now. The flex A's are still my favourite road suspension - just don't expect miracles!
-
The HBS on the flex A's is not a true hydraulic bump stop as found on teins rally stuff for instance. It's basically a spring which softens off the bottoming out but doesn't stop it. I had the flex A's on for a year - they won't allow you to 'just go right over'. The dampers on the 86 are very short (especially the rear) which is what causes the main issue.

My JDL manifold, all the ACE manifolds and also the HKS ones also don't use slip-joints or flexi-sections.

Another vote for a bank loan. I took a 5 year loan out on mine as I wanted the lowest payments possible as it makes more sense for me to funnel money into my offset mortgage account. Normally I'd go for the loan over the shortest period though to minimise interest payments.

@James@Amber kindly bought this to Japfest for me yesterday (plus chilly the penguin!) It's an SPA signature series digital oil temperature and pressure gauge. I'm currently waiting on a block8head gauge pod which is on its was from America (by pigeon seemingly based on how long it's taking...) I was going to get the gauge fitted at the same time as the oil cooler but I think I'm going to get the gauge and pod fitted first and do some monitoring of oil temperatures and pressures, both on the street and the track, before I decide for sure on the oil cooler fitting. I'm hoping to get the gauge fitted sometime in the next month or so depending on when the pod actually arrives!

Finally got to put the new plate on at the weekend:- I was also able to finally get the Do Luck's back and on. The initial refurb had problems so they were redone elsewhere. I'm a little undecided on the shade of red and kind of wish I'd gone for something more on the blood red end of the spectrum. Maybe something for a future refurb! And big thank you to @LarmiqGt's girlfriend for the rolling shot:-

Anarchy Motive shift knobs are awesome! The exhaust set up sounded very good too 👍
