On Monday I spent some time at AST having a few modifications made to my motons ahead of Oulton Park. I'll post a few more details on that later but in the meantime I just wanted to add a picture of how the Motons have held up to being on the car for almost a year now as this was something I was somewhat concerned about with them being a more race spec damper.

As an idea this is mine with a cobra non resonated catback, standard second cat, overpipe and JDL catted manifold:- And this the same set up but with the stock centre pipe and back box back on:- The difference is massive! The stock exhaust has a LOT of silencing.
-
Stock centre pipe and back box will quieten it massively even with a manifold and no cats.

I found a worn thing - not sure what it is, or how concerned to be - pls help

I think it's speed bumps causing it on my car. Would explain why it's passenger side only as I go over bumps on the passenger side. -

Mines having some work done today and noticed mine also seems to have that issue although hardly at all on the driver's side and mostly on the passenger side. Only thing I can think of is that the protective bracket is actually catching and rubbing it as the suspension compresses at the rear? As that's two of us I'm guessing there may be a few more with it too.... -
Looks like they've had a centre resonator / silencer fitted at some point to quieten it a bit.

I'm not sure what the standard mocal Subaru sandwich plates parts are so I can't say for sure @Ade

Me, @Mike and @will300 got them in a pre-christmas Hel 50% off sale along with brake hoses.

Well it ended up being less a case of 'overnight parts from Japan' and more a case of 'really slow parts from Exeter' but eventually my oil cooler arrived. I've been fairly convinced for a while that an oil cooler is a very worthwhile upgrade on these cars and @Lauren's recent review of the facelift and it's dashboard display of oil temperature seems to confirm that. Just need to find a time that @Mike@TD.co.uk can fit me in to get it fitted now.
-
This is very interesting. To hit those kind of oil temps in that kind of weather and driving definitely suggests an oil cooler is a good plan.

Good to meet everyone again today, new faces and old. I forgot to get a picture of all the cars together - anyone get one?

Maximum grip in all weathers would be tough for any one tyre. For all rounders the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are becoming very well regarded as are the Yokohama V105. Maximum grip in the dry would come from a track biased tyre but it'll not be so great in the wet or cold. In winter maximum grip would probably come from a set of winter tyres but they won't be so great when the temperatures rise. Uniroyal Rainsport 3's are excellent in the wet but have very soft sidewalls so their dry grip is a little limited. It's very much a horses for courses thing. I run track biased tyres in the summer and winter tyres in the winter as they both suit what I want well. Others have different preferences though.

There are way more knowledgeable people than me who I'm sure will chip in soon but one thing to bear in mind is that the safe limit on these for fi without further work seems to be 280bhp.

Welcome aboard James. As Lauren said we're having a meet on Saturday morning if you'd like to pop along you'd be more than welcome.

Just one other thing that may be of help and supports what @Ade said earlier - the 595 RSR's come up a size bigger so a 235 is the same size as a 245, etc. My 215's were the same size as 'normal' tyres I had in a 225.
-
@S18 RSG Having run the cup2's and federal 595rsr's I'd suggest one thing to consider would be wear compared to something like a v105 or ps4. If you are thinking of a more track biased type of tyre I'd definitely consider the federal 595's - for the price they're outstanding and I was definitely more impressed than I have been by the cup 2's. The main advantage the cup 2's seem to have is lower wear.
-
Apparently they're not going to. I'd thought they may come later but apparently the idea is PS4 for up to 18" and PS4s for over.

I'm in 👍 -
So I grabbed a quick video today showing the sound with the JDL catted manifold, an overpipe but then stock exhaust from the second cat back. I reved it to around 5krpm just the same as on the video with the cobra on (shoved it below for an easy comparison) Quite some difference!

Now sold 👍

I have my cobra non-resonated catback with black slash cut tips for sale. The only reason for the sale is due to upgrading the manifold recently and it now being too loud for track use so I've gone back to the stock catback. It is in great condition and was on the car for about 20k miles. I've added some pictures below now it's off the car:- And a video clip with it fitted from inside the car:- And outside the car:- New these are around £600 - I'm after £250 for it collected. I'm based on the West Mids / Staffs boarder but I'm also up and down to Bedford quite often, at the Midlands meet on the 18th, Prodrive on the 19th, Cheltenham on the 20th, Oulton Park on the 24th and RRG on the 25th of this month so could easily bring it to any of those locations. Any questions please ask.
