This is why I run winters from October to April. It was a bit too much 'fun' on the way to work while still half asleep!
-
Bought myself a cheapie, smarter daily watch but I've actually found myself really liking it:- It's a Seiko 5 Military.

Welcome on board. Glad you've enjoyed my mod thread 👍 What mods are you thinking of for yours?
-
My reply above is assuming you meant the stock second cat pipe. If you mean the centre pipe too then Keith has the resonated cobra one and Will's is the avo one (which I'm pretty sure is resonated too).
-
Will does. Keith has a Berk hfc
-
Did a few sound meter checks today with @will300 and @Keethos. Held at constant revs for a static style test Keith's car was the loudest around 103, mine was a little below Keith's and Will's was the quietest at about 100db's. This was measured following the MSC instructions for a car with twin talepipes of central between the tailpipes and half a meter away at a 45° angle. Will also jumped in with me for an inside measurement. Cruising sat around 72db, normal acceleration around 80db and harder acceleration around 85db.

Which obd port tool do you use @Rich?
-
Are you using torque for your logging @Rich?
-
Which gauge did you get?

I was looking at it where it's for sale (Wolverhampton Subaru) - not sure if someone moved it since then but it was definitely in the bumper cut out
-
That's my plan I think. I was looking at LFA's old car and the placement of his which is in front of the radiator but off to the side (still within the bumper cutout though). That seemed like a decent placement.

It may well be that the cooler just needs covering for road use and uncovering for track. I know that's what some of the US track users do although a lot of them don't run the thermostat plates.
-
I'd be a little wary of the quality of a product like that. If you were thinking of going ahead with purchasing I'd be putting aside some funds for possible bodyshop remedial work.

As I understand it (and it is a limited understanding I'll happily admit) the issue is not the temp leading to degredation of the oil itself but rather that the higher temperatures lead to problems with the oil pressure. I'll happily accept I'm wrong though.
-
@AJ124 I'm still discussing this with Hel but I'm pretty sure it'll be a 99°c one
-
I'm pretty sure @Mike did some logs without an oil cooler and didn't see much more than 80 anyway. Also, I didn't think @Ade had a 99°c thermostat when he had his fitted?
-
They're setrab cores and 19 row. What else would you like to know?
-
I don't think the thermostat will do much for what you want. An oil cooler of some description would be your best bet.
-
That Varis car is lovely and the first facelift 86 I've seen that I really like!
-
That's still a bit of a debate with Hel to be honest. Either 99 or 90 I believe

I've got a Hel oil cooler on the way (as have a couple of others). It's a 19 row setrab core so should be more than up to the job na. It'll hopefully be on for the Oulton Park day.

It's a Legsport Clubsport Ducktail in carbon.

This view may be better for seeing the degree it sticks up

I had the same sort of thought for a Porsche style one that stuck up more so I went with this which seems the closest I could find to what I imagined:-

Welcome aboard. Where abouts in the Midlands are you? I'm on the west mids / staffs border.
