Looking like an excellent choice for Nikki's next car! 😆
-
I'd take the wheel if you're coming anywhere Midlands ish at all?
-
Added a little TRD bling on Sunday
-
I didn't realise you'd tried other wheels on your BRZ @Tareim As Lauren said I imagine a lot comes down to personal preference - I love mine in the track tyres with the equivalent 225 width but maybe the stiffer sidewalls of the track tyres helps.
-
Have you tried 225/45/17's on a 7" wheel @Tareim? My track tyres are 215/45/17 but are as wide as a 225 normal road tyre and I had absolutely no problems with them on a 7" rim. Never tried the re070's @shiftspark but they'd need to be a massive improvement on the re050's as I found those pretty dire as soon as they'd worn a little (although perfectly good when new)
-
Was mine possible in the end?
-
Only the lockers have a ridge but I think I may struggle getting the tape off the others once they're fitted - there's not a lot of room between the bolt hole recess and the bolts.

Anyone got any suggestions on ways to fit painted wheel nuts without damaging the paint? I've bought a nylon coated socket but that only protects the wheels not the nuts and it doesn't seem possible to get sockets that are internally plastic (probably because they couldn't stand the force applied I guess). I read something on the 'net about using plastic bags over the nuts but the sockets just destroy the bag and still mark the nuts (although not as much). Anyone have a sure fire way?
-
Can't do this method sadly as they have a locker that has a ridge cut into it and then the ridge on the key :-(
-
I've got some Rays ones and I'm asking because I want to avoid as much damage as possible. Even being super careful today a few of them have got some small marks and I'd like to ensure they don't get any more!

This is a decent read about the FA20 http://dsportmag.com/the-tech/tomei-powered-dissects-the-fa20-flat-four/
-
Which is why I said I can't find any reports of failures on track or road.
-
They definitely are not forged - they're cast like the stock wheels. When I was doing my research they mostly seemed to be popping up on VAG's - Golfs, Octavias and Leons - plenty of which were used on track and I couldn't find any reports of failures on road or track so I was / am quite happy to give them a try on the far lighter 86.

Sorry Keith - I'm at Amber but we'll be staying at Nikki's parents so will have a car load of stuff and no wheel space.

I don't think Abbey have had chance yet. There are a lot of results on the American forum showing the gains though.

Hello, I was really impressed with what I've seen over on the US forum about the Ace manifolds (headers) so I contacted them about purchasing one and also enquired about a group buy. Some details for anyone who hasn't seen their products:- They currently offer two manifolds; a 4-1 design which retails at $895 and a 4-2-1 design which retails at $1600 (although this seems quite expensive note it does include the overpipe as part of the manifold design). They charge $95 shipped worldwide. At present the 4-1 design is available for both LHD and RHD. The 4-2-1 is currently available in LHD with the RHD version around 6 - 8 weeks away. Some threads on the US forum showing the kind of gains expected:- http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88696 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80609 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50211 I asked Matt at Ace about the fitment to the stock systen and expected power and here's what he said:- "Everything bolts up perfectly to the stock system. (With tune and drop-in filter, your dyno numbers will be around 210N/m Torque and 195-200WHP)" I also asked him for a brief overview of the difference between going 4-1 and 4-2-1:- "Short version is this: 4-1= lower torque but higher HP at high RPM's. Useful for racecars that stay above 4500 4-2-1= better torque output and power, but peak HP #'s are higher on 4-1. Designed for sporty drivers with occasional trackdays" They said that they can do a 10% discount if me and five others wanted to buy one so would anyone else be interested? Prices work out as:- $895 - 10% = $805.50 + $95 shipping. Total $900.50 (I imagine they'd waive the 50c!) for the 4-1 $1400 - 10% = $1260 + $95 shipping. Total $1355 for the 4-2-1 Googling current exchange rates it works out as £586.70 for the 4-1 and £883.31 for the 4-2-1. However, bear in mind the possibility of getting caught for VAT and import duty. Edit - Ace have now set prices in GBP which are as follows:- £1040 for the 4-2-1 plus $95 shipping. With the discount this would be £936 plus the $95 shipping (they have put the price of the 4-2-1 up a little unfortunately for all markets) £581.75 for the 4-1 plus $95 shipping. With the discount this would be £523.58 plus the $95 shipping Here are some of the other questions I asked which should hopefully cover most questions people may have: 1. Is it the 10% off the list price plus the delivery or 10% off the combined list and delivery price? 10% is off the listed price 2. How and when will people need to pay you - by Paypal? After there are 5 people? Paypal works fine, we can set it up so each person pays individually 3. How long after payment should people expect delivery? Max 4 weeks from date of payment (Remember that the RHD 4-2-1 version is about 6-8 weeks from completion though) 4. Will shipping be to each individual in the group buy? Shipping will be to each individual person ($95USD flat rate each set) 5. Can you offer options for people who are turbo'd or supercharged? At the moment we do not have any forced induction exhaust systems 6. Does the group buy include both the 4-1 and 4-2-1 or does it need to be all of one type? Yes, they can mix and match 7. Can I confirm that the 4-2-1 system includes all that's needed to mate up to the rest of the stock exhaust but that the 4-1 would need an over pipe too? Correct, the 4-2-1 does not need the overpipe. 4-1 DOES need the overpipe. All headers come with a complete gasket set. Any questions feel free to ask and I'll pass them on to Matt at Ace. Cheers, Deacon

Bump. Having driven the new 2.0 mx5 yesterday and then jumping back into the 86 I realised just how truly bad the torque dip is and how much getting rid of it (which the ace does) should be a priority! ☺
-
I'd definitely agree.

I grabbed a few pics Keith although I don't think they show how they sit that well - much better to have a look in person. The black wheels are off now obviously so of you want to try the clearance still just let me know.

I had the chance to spend a day with a 2.0 sport yesterday at the Derbyshire dales event. And it's left me very confused. I was invited to the initial launch event and drove a 1.5 sport for about 40 miles and loved it (car had done about 25 miles). I was the invited to the local dealers launch event and drove a 1.5 sport which again I loved (again about 20 miles on it when I drove it) and a 2.0 sport which I wasn't so keen on - the ride seemed very harsh for a standard car and the engine reluctant to rev. I did about 10 miles in each car on the dealer launch event. I was then invited to the Aylesbury event and spent a day in a 1.5 sport doing about 130 miles and left very disappointed as I reported earlier due to numerous issues that I hadn't noticed before like the major dead spot around centre in the steering, etc. This car had done about 2500 miles. This week I went along to the Derbyshire dales event as my girlfriend had been invited and drove a 2.0 sport and loved it. The ride seemed much better than the previous 2.0 and the engine reved freely. There was also no dead spot around centre on the steering. This car had done about 2000 miles and I did about 110. So I've driven 5 new MX5's for about 300 miles in total - 3 have been really good and 2 pretty poor. I was looking to get one right away but have decided I'm going to hold on to my 86 for a while longer (I decided this last week after the disappointing 1.5 drive). The issue I really have though is that the cars seem like a lottery some excellent and some really poor and I must admit this has put me right off. I'd be gutted if I ordered one and got a duffer when I know some of them are so good.

Will get one done today but it's quite distorted by the amount of camber. They are 17x7.5 et35. I think a 17x8 et35 would probably be absolutely perfect. The 2.0 Sport was really, really good. The torque dip in the 86 felt horrific after driving the 2.0!
-
Actally Keith when you say side view what do you mean - not the side view like above obviously!
-
As soon as I get back from playing in this 2.0 sport Keith I'll get one done! :-)
-
Thank you! They are Fox FX005's.
