Just to let you all know, I won't be coming sorry, I'm racing at Donnington and didn't realise that I'm on the list of attending! Hope you have a great day and I'll see you hopefully at the Summer action day? Perhaps get another club stand?

Your Snetterton video looks like great fun, glad to hear you've been out enjoying the car like I remember you saying you wanted to back at Forge last year! It's good to see it from an 86 point of view to, I'm so used to seeing everything from a Mazda's eye aha! I'm racing at Snetterton this weekend so should be interesting. I've heard lots about coram so I'm keen to see it for myself, it's good to hear you liked it though!!! It would be good to do a Bedford day with you and some of the others, I know a few of the 86's near me are keen to go on track but worried about making mistakes which is why Bedford is great to learn on.

I won't be able to come to, sorry guys

Yeah exactly that! Parts are cheap and there is a lot of race support in terms of progression, safety parts, lap times ect. It is scarily similar to the 86! I've learned so much driving the Mazda in the pouring rain, managing understeer and oversteer, even introducing oversteer to persuade the car to move where you want it or get out of trouble aha, the importance of throttle and brake control, finding grip on a wet track and more! Whilst you could spend money on the 86 instead, the cost of buying some AP brakes and decent tyres for the 86 would be more than an entire MK1 MX5! I only mentioned brakes and tyres as I felt these were the weakest points when I took mine on track for a few laps. They are generally slower than an 86 but I have passed many 86's and BRZ's on trackdays with friends in the Mazda. The 1.6 MX5 (standard engine) will lap Castle Combe in a 1:20 which is .03 slower than Tiff Needell lapped a E90 M3 around there, they're not to be underestimated! An idea I've got is it race my BRZ in a few years and by that point wings ect will be easily accessible and cheap, I hope aha. I know you can get them now but the cost of racing one now would be to much for me at the moment. Depending on your budget and if you want to build it from a standard car to a track or fun or whatever car, an option you have is to buy a race prepared car for around £4,000. It sounds like a lot but this is a safe ready to race car that would be very fast out of the box. Although it wouldn't be road legal so would need to be converted slightly (handbrake, lights) unless you were prepared to tow it everywhere. It all depends where you plan to go with it, you could even go drifting?

Just out of interest, would it be possible to make a valve system whereby you can close the values for say motorway driving and open them when you want more noise? The same kinda thing as most sporty cars have from the big companies. Perhaps and extra option to the TD NA System? I will be coming to TD later in the year for a UEL package, over pipe and mid-pipe and it's just a question I've had on my mind. Perhaps you could use the blank between the traction and track buttons or have a separate remote like the Aston GT8 Vantage?

I've just tried to book a stand as me and another 2 cars are looking and why not have our own? They are currently fully booked and will announce more information on the 5th of Feb. As I am not a club secretary my email was deleted and it could be difficult to register us. Perhaps the club could look into booking for us if I run into difficulty booking on my own on behalf of the club? Hopefully they have space and on the 5th and I will register us. Including yourself we'll have 4 cars so an improvement on last time aha!

Ah sucks, the only ones that seem to are in Japan or USA ...

Will this fit the new shape front on a BRZ?
-
I could be biased as I race them but an MK1 MX5 would be a great project car with abilities in both drifting or track driving. The BRZ feels just like a grown up MX5 meaning that you'd get something similar but much cheaper than your 86. Light weight small RWD with LSD as standard on the imports, they're great little cars for the money. Parts are available and incredibly cheap with also a turbo option if you choose for more power. I've learnt an awful lot driving the Mazda and it's great fun! Back to basics with no powered anything or any electronic aids helping you drive. You'd learn so much having that you can transfer to the 86 keeping you safer on the road and as accidents happen on the learning curve, everything is dirt cheap to fix!

I'd be interested in a stand space again and I know a few other cars in Swindon which should join us this time, hopefully!

I'd be up for this, please add me to the list

Is there a Cusco D-Shape suede one for the new car with the buttons? -
After chatting with another member we've decided to postpone the meet until mid/late Jan as people may be bored and looking for cheap things to do. Hopefully we can make more of an event out of it too with a drive. Sorry for the last minute change of plans, interest seem to drop and a few of us are coming down with a cold. Fingers crossed people won't be as busy and we can have some more committed cars!
-
Just a general thought, do people fancy another meeting before the years out, perhaps using xmas as an excuse? There's been a few successful meetings in both Birmingham and Essex so maybe something between somewhere like Oxford or Northampton. If there's enough interest I'll volunteer to find somewhere and book a table. Let me know your thoughts guys, just an idea
-
Yes that's the one! It's called The Boathouse, when you turn in, go left at the roundabout and you should see me, I'll get there a little earlier.
-
Okay great, shall we meet at 12 in the cafe car park? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Are people still interested? We don't need to book for the cafe but who's coming?
-
@KevinA Did you go for stiffer or softer springs? Why was there a need for change, were the ones that come with the set too hard/soft? I'm keen to know what I should expect when I buy mine!
-
I can't make the 27th, I've got to go into work unfortunately. Shall I book a table at the cafe then? From above it looks like 3 or 4 are interested and the following want to go: 1. Lucas 2. Ignited 3.Green Spring 4. Cropzy 5. Myself

How does the 30th sound for people?
-
What do you think guys? Would be good to book something soon!

I'm almost certain that I've not boiled my fluid, the pedal just feels slightly longer than it did a few weeks ago but felt great across some of the back roads in Avebury so there's no need to play with my fluid at the moment as it's primarily is a road car. It only goes on track at charity events or if I come to an event with the club, even then it won't be pushed. Thanks for your input Church, I'm not very hard on my brakes so pad wear is nothing to worry about to an extent. Your having a set of brakes go off in 4 laps in his WRX is quite extreme! Perhaps he should see an instructor!! I will be getting some 18" wheels in the new year and a set of grippier pilot sport 4's to accompany them, as well as some TIEN Monosport's so that will sort out the grip aspect you mentioned. Although I still past a lot of things I shouldn't have been near on the primacy's but they look worn now with a strong blue tint around the outside aha. The BBK you mentioned is also on the list but not essential at the moment. Thanks for your tips around the BBK and other bits, it's interesting to read as you're quite knowledgeable with the car! Japan sounds great Lauren! Something I really want to do!!!

Thanks guys, I've had a look into the Project Mu HC800 and they seem to get a great write up although they aren't cheap. So for the moment I think I'll get a set of the PFC fronts and Yellow stuff for the rear. Parts box rate the PFC as being arguably the best street/fast road pad for our cars so they must be good! I'm also keen on Yellow stuff as that's what we use in our MX5 for racing. If I feel I need anything more and have saved up some more I'll get the Project Mu HC800. The AP kit Lauren mentioned is something I'm interested in doing soon, I found that at Castle Combe the car couldn't scrub enough speed off into quarry corner and resulted in understeering lots on entry. I ended up having to brake before Avon Rise, accelerate over the rise and brake again, something I didn't expect I'd have to do with this car and costing me lots of time, although it was giving passenger laps for charity so I probably shouldn't have been pushing in way aha. I do apologise for my pedal sinking comment relating to brake pads, of course its fluid related, what a rookie comment. The pedal seemed to be a lot better when driving it today, perhaps it's self adjusted. However I may try the Millers racing 300 which TTR mentioned, again we run this in the Mazda and it transformed it!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, after taking the car on track a few weeks ago and today my pedal sank to the floor and the car didn't slow as I would've liked, I'm keen to change the pads. A few of you mentioned that you were thinking of trying the Yellow Stuff pads and I wondered if anyone actually had and could give me an opinion on them. I've seen the Ferodo DS2500 and Cosworth street masters are popular but with so many options it's hard to pick. So please can I have some suggestions on what you would feel most appropriate for me, I am looking for a more track focused pad but want it to work well from cold for the road.
