Correct. A40 Supra (mk1) was essentially the MK2 Celica with a lengthened nose with a 2.6 6-cylinder. Same happened in the MK3 Celica. They put another 2.8 straight 6 in it and that was the MK2 Supra (A60). I had a MK2 and it was awesome. I put a 4.0 V8 1UZ in mine lol A70 Supra Mk3 was the first non-celica based car. Then we has the Mk4 A80. I’ve had 3x A80’s. One black NA Auto Aerotop, a white na manual and a red uk spec tt auto. Awesome cars. But total boats compared to the 86. tbh the new Supra needs to be pretty special to make me trade in my 86 for. Im finding myself drawn more towards a used LC500. Just thought of something. Supra is back, Corolla is back, Camry is coming back... would make total sense for them to continue this classic name revival and bring the Celica back too. After all, they re-registered the Celica name patent in 2017; so they must be planning to use it.

On the mkv supra forum we had rumours of a new Celica (based on the new Supra) making a comeback to replace the 86. Given the new Supra will apparently have two 2.0 turbo options (197bhp & 258bhp) in the future we straight away there have a replacement for the current 86 and the more powerful version many people were crying out for. If the new Supra is roughly the same size as the 86 and has a lower centre of gravity than the 86, then building another 86 seems pointless unless its cost related. I can only see it being worthwhile if you can churn 86’s out of the Subaru factory for less than you can make base spec 2.0 Supra’s out of Austria. Would make sense to me that Toyota are looking to simply put a different face and smaller wheels on the Supra body then sell it as the Celica then kill off the 86. This is essentially what they had with the Mk1 and Mk2 Supra. Also lets look at the 86 life cycle. Came out in 2012, mid life facelift in 2017 which would suggest the current 86 will die in 2020. So roughly 2 years after the Supra. This is enough time for the Supra to plant roots perfectly before launching a cut down bargain Celica 2.0 version as an 86 replacement.

From what I understand Direct Injection systems cause a lot more carbon buildup than a regular engine because of higher compression and a better burn. There are a few discussions about this on various GT86 forums but I don't actually know any UK GT86 owner that's had this issue yet. The way they clear it out is to fire walnut shell chippings at the build up under high pressure. Apparently its the best way to clear it off without doing any damage to the engine. Quick google - https://www.terracleanswaffham.co.uk/walnut-blasting My understanding is that carbon buildup in DI Engines is down to poor maintenance and I've also heard that you can get carbon buildup if you only ever drive for economy (not sure how much truth there is in the latter). But seeing as my 86 is my dedicated track car I'm happy that it should never get carbon buildup. It only ever sees low rpm on the way to and from the track lol

Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013
Leeky replied to Lauren's topic in Mechanical
So are Toyota saying the valve spring design/part number changed after May 2013? Would love to know what changed in April 2013 that means all later cars are not at risk from this. -

Advan Model 7 Wheels (17x7j ET50 - 6.8kgs a wheel) wearing Advan AD08R’s 215/45R17

I'd recommend Brembo OEM discs too. Also just fitted some Borg & Beck discs I got off ebay; seem fine out on track. I've never had any issues with the Brembo discs, they seem to be just as good as Toyota OEM discs and are a fraction of the cost. I only went Borg & Beck as they were dirty cheap and their parts review well. No complaints so far.

Wheel weight rota blitz, pro race 1.2
Leeky replied to Daninplymouth's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
I’ve recently fitted Advan Model 7’s to my 86 (17x7j). 6.8kgs each, so saved a total of 9.2kgs of unsprung mass when compared to the stock 9.1kg alloys. Very rare though. The set I bought were the only set i’ve ever seen for sale in 17x7j with a PCD of 5x100. But can highly recommend them if you can find them. If it helps, there is a really good list of wheel weights on this site - https://www.andysautosport.com/learning_center/buyers_guides/wheel_weights/ -

Hey guys, I’ve got 4x good condition standand 17’s for sale. Tyres not included. I used these as a second set of rims for my track tyres, but i’ve now got some new track rims that i’ll be transferring the AD08R’s onto. Tyres will be getting removed this coming weekend (Sat 29th Sept) so the rims will be available for collection after this. Good condition, very minor curb/fitting marks as you can see in the pictures. Collection only. No shipping/delivery sorry. Located in North Reading, Berkshire - RG4 area. £100 for a quick sale. No offers. But would swap/px for any genuine Cosworth/TRD parts etc.

I actually went with Cosworth StreetMaster pads in the end so never tried the Brembo pads.

Hey guys n gals Anyone ever tried the Brembo brake pads available for the 86? Search didnt bring back any threads. I’ve used these on a number of vehicles in the past and found them to vary somewhere between OEM to a fast road equivalent. Also they cost about 1/4 of the genuine Toyota pad price. Fronts are part no P78013 - Thickness [mm]: 16,4, Width [mm]: 137,1 & Height [mm]: 56,8 but there appears to be two rear options floating around and I cant seem to confirm which would be correct. Anyone able to confirm for me please? P78020 - Thickness [mm]: 14,7, Width [mm]: 110,4 & Height [mm]: 37,3 P78018 -Thickness [mm]: 16, Width [mm]: 110,6 & Height [mm]: 39,5

Light 17” Wheels, OZ Superleggera/Ultraleggera etc
Leeky posted a topic in Wanted GT86 / BRZ Cars and Parts
Hey guys, Im looking to trim a bit of unsprung mass from my car so im looking for any 17” wheels that are for sale that are lighter than the stock 17’s. Ideally around 7kgs per wheel. A few i’ve shortlisted if anyone has some for sale. Oz Chrono Oz Superleggera Oz Ultraleggera Enkei RPF1’s SSR GTF1 Drop me a PM if you have a set of these for sale or have some lightweight 17’s that you think may interest me. Im not interested in any other sizes as I already have 17” track tyres that i’d want to reuse from my stock rims. cheers! -
Yeah this is the kind of thing I was expecting to hear. Sounds like a flexi section should indeed help preserve the exhaust welds.

Peugeot 206. Hateful car. I literally cannot think of a single good thing to say about it. Terrible chassis, woeful steering, shonkey build quality, awful mechanics, poor materials. I could go on forever.

So I bit the bullet and got the Cossie Catback. Gonna fit it this weekend and then test the db. As long as its not too loud i’ll then order a midpipe too. Anyone heard of these systems getting stress cracks? Chap I bought it off said it was the 2nd Cosworth system he had. Showed me the first one and it was coming apart at every weld. He believes it’s because the system has no flexi pipe so it vibrates itself to bits. if/when i get the midpipe i may cut out a section and weld in a flexi pipe.

Light 17” Wheels, OZ Superleggera/Ultraleggera etc

Cheers guys for the advice Those Fox wheels do indeed look awesome! I had a set of Fox rims about 18 years ago and thought they were great. I didnt even know they were still in business lol -
Hi Guys n Gals I recently took my 2014 86 into my dealer for the chirping high pressure fuel pump issue. I went armed with the latest 2016 Scion TSB which states the latest pump part number as SU003-07326. This is the version that should fix the noise finally. They confirmed they will change the pump under warranty but tell me the part number they have been advised by Toyota to fit is exactly the same one I already have! However, Toyota wont tell me what the part number is that they are fitting. As its the same as my existing pump and its a 2014 car I can only assume its not the new 2016 pump. Anyone else been down this road?
