Manual owners will say manual and auto owners will say auto. Reliability wise the auto is a stronger box than the manual. But on track days they do get hot and its heat that kills autos so i monitor temps of my auto on track days. The manuals clutches aren’t much good once you got turbo/SC and need upgrading, but if you are staying stock then this isn’t a problem. Personally i bought my 86 as a pure track day car. I drove both manual and auto and chose auto as it just felt much quicker once moving (except 0-60 where the auto86 just cant build enough revs to get off the line quick enough) a bit more special/exotic/sportier and nicer/easier to drive going from home to the track. I’m not fishing to bait people with this comment but on track I find that I’m always faster than the manual 86’s simply because I'm not backing off the throttle to change gear. If you want the pleasure of old school manual gear changes then go manual. If you want to be on power without lifting off and flying through the gears super fast like you are on Gran Turismo then go auto. They are both super reliable boxes. It all comes down to which type of driving experience you want.

Getting even a windscreen replaced does not affect your NCB. I’ve had a chip repaired twice now on my 86 and its never put my premium up. I just had to pay the £50 excess on both occasions.

The GR86 is being added to GT Sport in August. I’m looking forward to doing some back to back Spa/Nur VR laps in the GR86 and the GT86.

Im using a SuperBatt 072 80ah 650cca You can find them on ebay for £65 and they are pretty much the most powerful battery you can find that fits in the standard 86 battery tray. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SB-072-031-069-Heavy-Duty-Car-Van-SUV-Battery-TOYOTA-LANDROVER-MITSUBISHI-/193262633319?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

My order from Torqen came today Very happy!

No. From my experience mobile mechanics are not as good as a regular garage. For a start they don’t carry with them the level of equipment that a garage has access to.

100% Vented. I cant say I’ve ever seen an 86 with solid rear discs. Maybe they are from the Primo models that came with smaller brakes?

I ordered something from them Thursday. Had an email confirming the order but nothing since. No ETA etc. Sent them a WhatsApp message and just awaiting a response now.

I’ve recently switched from Shell VPower 99 to Esso Supreme 99 and I thoroughly recommend it. Seems to pull harder (but probably a placebo) but definitely a lot quieter. Ever day I drive it I’m hearing fewer and fewer crickets. Also I still use the standard 0w-20 from Toyota. I have an oil cooler and on track days I monitor my oil temp/pressure. I’ve not yet seen any need to switch grades.

The search really doesn’t work properly. I found it better to search google for what i want and put “partbox” on the end of the search. That always took me to what i was looking for.

What tyre size would you put on an 8.5J rim?
Leeky replied to Booboo's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Eagle F1 SuperSports are incredible but stock is short so hard to find for a reasonable price. I went Eagle Asym 5’s as they are 99% of the performance of a SuperSport but significantly cheaper and better in the wet. I got 4x Eagle F1 Asym 5’s in 235/40R18 for £361.26 delivered from Black Circles. -

Leeky replied to Booboo's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
I run 18x8.5J. ET42 and the widest tyres I can run are 235/40R18 otherwise the tyre touches the spring mounts on the front stock shocks. I did have 225’s before but found the rims were getting too close to the tarmac for my liking. A bit too stretched in my opinion if you do track days. As you’re ET38 you’ll have an extra 4mm between the rim and suspension. So you probably could go 245. I wouldn’t go any wider though otherwise you’d deffo have rub if you have stock suspension like me. -
Do you drive the car without an undertray? There is a lot of rust on the subframe too. Looks like its been driven without an undertray. Mine looks brand new underneath; certainly nowhere even remotely like that.

I’m one of those people that has zero interest in electric or hybrids. But I can see the appeal/benefits of one. If anything my future car purchase plans involve adding more petrol cars with at least 8 cylinders to my collection lol Also financially there are zero benefits for me to make the switch as I don't have to commute to work. My cars are all for recreational use only. If all petrol stations disappear i’ll be happy buying barrels of E85 online. The more people that go electric the more petrol left for me lol

I’ll still have my 86 in 30 years from now. They can put up the road tax and fuel prices as high as they want, i’ll just pay it and carry on. Worth every penny.

(SOLD) OEM Jap spec front plate plinth
Leeky replied to OliverOCC's topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Parts
Not trying to do you out of a sale... but these are only £24 inc vat brand new from your local Toyota dealer. I bought one of these myself only last summer. Exact same part number. -
If this was my car i’d remove the droplinks completely and secure down the roll bar then take it for a drive (very carefully) to see if the clonk has gone. If so, at least you know its not your coilovers and is either a drop link or the roll bar itself. If its still there then its gotta be the spring/shock or topmounts.

Oh I see! My apologies I misunderstood

I don't think anyone on this forum is arrogant enough to ever insinuate they are an 86 expert. The only real 86 expert I’ve ever met was Tada-san lol
-
True but if you go through a deep puddle even without a turbo you risk thermal shock cracking the hot exhaust manifold or warping a hot brake disc etc. I’d still rather have the turbo placed lower than higher in the engine bay and be sure to avoid deep puddles.
-
Yes totally thats exactly why I went SC. I didn't want an UEL catless header as I didn’t want to risk failing DB checks on track days. Also keeping two cats stops any worries about MOT’s in the future. I was only aiming for 280bhp, so SC gave me the power bump without increasing noise.

If I was going to go Turbo I’d personally go for the Fensport Avo Turbo kit. Firstly because its a brilliant piece of engineering with great build quality and reviews the world over. Secondly because it locates the turbo in a great little spot under the engine. I’m really not a fan of turbo kits like the TD one that sit the turbo up high behind the bonnet catch. All that increased pipework and heat up near the intake isn’t where I would want it to be. I guess one downside of the Fensport Avo kit is that its only available as an UEL manifold. Fine if you like that kind of sound but I don't so I went SC instead.

They are all slightly different. I think most mount behind the fog lights but my Mishimoto is dead centre below the numberplate without any spacer/riser blocks. Mine has a bracket to attach to the crash bar then there are 4x self tapping screws to fix the bottom to the plastic tray. Some would say thats a bad Idea, but in almost 20 years of track days I’ve never come off and lost an under tray or a bumper.

SOLD - Advan Model 7 Alloys (6.8kgs each) with AD08R’s
Leeky posted a topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Parts
Advan Model 7 Wheels (17x7j ET50 - only 6.8kgs a wheel) wearing nearly new AD08R’s 215/45R17 with minimum of 5mm of tread. Very rare, recently fully refurbed (acid dipped and powder coated). So zero curbing. As new condition except for some light rub marks inside the nut holes which comes naturally from using the wheel brace to tighten up the nuts. Price now dropped to £800. I think this is a very fair price considering the tyres are £400 alone and the refurb was also £400. On that basis you are essentially getting these uber rare jdm wheels for free!. Will throw in a set of locking wheel nuts (Factory OEM locking wheel nuts will not fit). First to see will buy. These wont hang around at this price. You simply cannot find another set of these rims in this size/pcd/offset anywhere. This is the only set I have ever seen. Collection from Reading, Berkshire. Will take a small deposit via paypal to reserve them. Dont miss out! -
