Facelift 2017+ GT86 wheels and tyres. Bought brand new. Paid £600 for these, not including tyres! Fitted with standard Michelin ‘Prius’ tyres which are all lightly used. The wheels are pretty much mint. Zero dents/curbing. Only a few tiny marks here and there from general use. First to see will buy. Collection only from Reading, Berkshire RG4 postcode.

Yep all the oil cooler thermostats let a little oil past even when closed. This is to better balance the temp difference to prevent thermal shock of the thermostat opening and then suddenly a load of cold oil rushing into the engine. But the oil being too cold can be just as bad as it getting too hot. So some people block off their coolers until they get to track. I put a square JDM front numberplate on and as it hangs down in front of the vent it blocks the airflow to my Mishimoto oil cooler enough to get heat in the oil for daily driving. I then just take it off or put the UK style plate back on when I get to the track.

Personally I don't rate HKS kit. Was good in the 90’s but not impressed with the last 10 years of their kit. And I don't think there is anything wrong with the stock pickup. I got the Cosworth sump baffle and a Mishimoto thermostatic oil cooler. Job done. Decent kit and worry free track days

They have a metal tab on them that screeches when it touches the disc. It very loud, so you cant miss it. Picture stolen from google image search
-
Probably not. Drone tends to be caused at the backbox. So probably only slightly louder than usual with just an UEL manifold.

I live in London where’s the best place to get supercharged

There is a chap on Facebook Marketplace selling a brand new Cosworth Stage1 & Stage2 Supercharger kit with the Ecutek programming kit for £5200. -
Even NA I wouldn’t use anything less than 98ron on these FA20 engines given their reputable for bending rods. It says “98ron+” under the fuel cap from the factory and in the owners manual it says the same. It says at an absolute minimum you could use 95ron if nothing better is available but that “98 or higher” is the recommendation. As yours has been mapped for 99, I would personally never risk using anything less than 99.

Hey Peep, Cant seem to find this info online so posting it here. Does anyone know the water/coolant ratio in the Genuine Toyota 86 Blue Pre-Mixed? I’d assume its 50/50 or 60:40 but I cant find anything specific online.
-
Thanks for confirming its a 50:50 mix. But Toyota do use the blue Subaru coolant in the 86...
-
Looks great Congrats! If they ever did an auto version with flappy paddle in the future I’d love one! Love how its actually got bigger front brakes than the GR Supra!
-
Tried searching the part number off the bottle but couldn't find any official details/stats. It doesn’t matter too much to me if its 50:50 or 60:40. I was just curious if its actually stated anywhere online. Looking to use it in my Cosworth charge cooler and need anything thats greater than 25:75. Granted I could use any coolant but I think it would be useful to use the Toyota blue then its the same coolant everywhere in the car. Means I could take a single 1litre bottle to a track day and could use it to top up both systems if either ran low. On the 3SGTE you used to run the Toyota Red in both the ChargeCooler and the engine coolant system so I thought it probably best to do the same on my 86.

Exhaust Manifold or Intake Manifold?

4x almost new AD08RS tyres in 225/40R18 Bought a set of wheels off another forum member and these almost brand new tyres were fitted to them. Previous owner said they’ve done less than a thousand miles but they look like they’ve probably only seen about 500miles max. They look almost brand new. I only just had them removed today as I needed to fit a different size tyre. Four of these cost £500 brand new, so an absolute bargain at £350. Collection only from Reading, Berkshire RG4 postcode

I wonder what that thing is hanging under the car... looks like a baking tray..

I hope that if the new 86 is truly being rebranded “GR86”, its not just simply a name change and actually comes with some significant performance credentials over the Gen1. As on the Gen1 we’ve already had a GR Sport and GRMN 86 in Japan. The latter of which as we know had some serious upgrades (Lightweight plexiglass, 216bhp, carbon roof, staggered wheels, big brakes etc). So I hope the “GR86” is not just a straight Toyota badged version of this recently unveiled BRZ (unless Gazoo were involved in the BRZ development also). As I’d want to see actual Gazoo Racing involvement here to justify the GR badge.

Whole new Interior and totally different body panels ahead of A-pillar and behind C-pillar. But yeah... almost certainly same chassis, same suspension/drivetrain/brake/exchaust/steering etc

BRZ leaked before unveiling

Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013

I’ve done lots of sumps in the past and never waited for the sealant to dry. Its clamped down tight by the bolts and the engine heats up/dries out the sealant fast. Amber Performance actually did my cossie baffled sump while I wait and I drove it straight home the same day. No waiting overnight for stuff to dry. This is the first i’ve ever heard of this if im honest. -

Howdy peeps, Does anyone know the life expectancy of the stock coil packs? Mine are all currently fine (2014 car - 27k miles) but I’m wondering if its worth getting some spares to carry in the boot. Would be sods law I’d be miles away somewhere like the Nurburgring when one dies. Do people generally only buy the OEM Subaru/Toyota coilpacks or are there better uprated aftermarket packs? Had a quick google and a look on ebay; there are a lot of coilpacks from a brand called “Surefire” and “Benchmark” but imho they both just look like cheap chinese knock offs. MSD are a brand I can trust and they do some coilpacks for the FA20, but for all I know the OEM coilpacks may be the best ones (heard that MSD stuff is nowhere as good as it used to be 10-20 years ago)
