Cheers chaps. I think i'll just order a new OEM coilpack from Toyota and sling it in the boot in case of emergency.
-
If it was a daily driver then i’d probably agree with you. But as its purely used as a track car those 27k miles have been hard lol I’m thinking for the sake of £50-100, probably worth getting a single spare to carry around just in case. They don't last forever and in previous cars i’ve always been miles away from home when they give up. My Altezza RS200 dumped a coil pack when I was at a wedding in Cornwall. 250 miles drive home on 3cyl. The cat was totally shot by the time I got home lol

Block8Head gauge pods are quite popular and clip in to your dash to replace your existing air vent. I personally went with a Scangauge2 for an all in one digital gauge solution.

Cheers Maurice. Thats a good point. I don't know why but in my head I had all XL walled tyres as being hard. Its a good point. Instead of going for a non-xl tyre i’ll try another brand thats still XL but softer.
-
Cheers guys. Sorry I wasn't very clear in what I’m asking (I modified my original post now to clarify as I originally did waffle on a bit lol) I’m interested about only tyres that would be suitable for the track. So we’re not talking about winter tyres or all season tyres here as only a summer/UHP tyre would have an appropriate compound for track use. I understand where you are coming from but its not a case that I need to get used to XL tyres as I have already been running XL walled AD08R’s for nearly 4 years. The primacy’s wont catch me out as I already constantly expect them to kick out as they have naff all grip; so I adjust my driving accordingly. I don't use them for anything other than trackdays where I am planning to intentionally go sideways. I just wanted to know if anyone on here uses a non-xl tyre for track. If so, what are they using, what made them decide to use that particular brand/model and how do they fair on track with it.

Auto is not tuned any different to the manual. Only difference is the gearing.

Seems to match the renders... I like it! Not sure now if these are renders or actual intentionally leaked pictures from Toyota... the interior shot looks very real and I can’t see any inconsistencies or photoshop evidence across any of these pictures.
-
Is that a genuine TRD spoiler or a copy?
-
New spy photos stolen from the ft86club site. So it appears the renders are spot on.

I like the wheels... they’d look great on a MK1... ... otherwise I think the MK1 is better looking in 99% of places. And there isn’t enough improvement/extra power here to make me want to spend all that extra money to trade up to a MK2 when my MK1 wasn’t exactly cheap and I’ve now modded it just the way I like it. But as its clearly an evolution of the MK1 chassis underneath we’ll probably find most exhaust, brake, suspension mods would go straight onto a MK2.

Petrol / Fuel Type Shell V Power, Tesco 99 Momentum, Sainsbury Super Unleaded, BP Super Unleaded

Lots of people in the US reliably running E85 on their 86’s/BRZ’s/FRS’s and when mapped correctly they get a pretty decent power increase from it. So only 5% Ethanol in VPower is fine. The FA20 loves ethanol.- 29 replies

Hey All, I’ve recently fitted a Mishimoto Thermostatic (85c) Oil Cooler to the 86 and im at Castle Combe today looking at how its performing. Track temps are all good but the drive here on the M4 was at 63c (as you still get a little oil flow through the thermostat) which is probably a bit too cool now I think? I’m running the factory 0w-20 so probably not doing the engine any real harm but I'm thinking I may need to block it off a little especially for the Winter. Im thinking if I switch from a UK front plate to JDM it’ll hang down enough to block off some of the air flow. Then I can always take off the front plate on track to get back full flow. What do you think?

Hey peeps, just thought i’d share my findings for those interested. I bought a Japanese spec car numberplate mount (£24 from Toyota - part number SU003-01539) and a 13x8 front plate. My theory appears to have worked and now off track just driving around town and up/down the motorway my oil temps are around 74c. So an improvement of around 11c. I’ve got a Nurburgring trip next month so i’m planning on driving there with the new square plate so its blocking airflow to the cooler and will just switch back to my UK size front plate just before going on track so that I have full cooling. Its just two small plastic screws so takes 30seconds to switch plates.
-
Cool. Cheers Will. Glad to hear I’m not the only one seeing this issue with the Mishimoto Cooler
-
Thanks. Yeah thats what my mate said, but on average I do one track day per month so i’d be constantly taking duck tape off and on. Would also leave sticky residue. Unless anyone has a better suggestion I’ll probably go Jap size plate for the road and then just take it off on track. As the Mishimoto Cooler mounts dead centre, a Jap size plate would totally sit in its way blocking all but the bottom inch off.

Not sure about others, but on my 86 it actually says to use only "98ron+" under the fuel cap. So i''ve used only Tesco99 and VPower+ since I've owned my car. Since getting it remapped a few years ago I noticed that it didn't run quite as well on Tesco99 as VPower+. I had this feeling that on Tesco99 it was slightly down on power but worried it was a placebo effect, so about a year ago I did the first half of a track day on half a tank of Tesco99 and then on the fuel light switched to half a tank of VPower in the afternoon to make sure there was no weight difference. Weather conditions/temps did not change but my lap times were clearly faster on VPower by a good 1-2 seconds around Anglesey. Fuel is like wine in my opinion. You're going to get people that say "Bah... wine is wine" and then you'll have those with a finer palate who have taken the time and tasted many different wines and will be able to tell the good stuff from the pig swill.- 29 replies

Hey guys and gals Does anyone know if Genuine Toyota oil filters for the 86 have anti-drainback valves? They used to fit them to the Supra 2JZ/Celica 3S filters but I cant find anything online that confirms if the 86’s 4U filters have them. Been googling the TRD Oil filter (MS500-18001) and there is no mention of any anti drainback valve. There is mention of a “OEM style” pressure relief valve but thats not the same thing. The OEM part number is SU003-00311. If I stick this into google I find sites that are saying its a part number that’s interchangeable with 90915-YZZS1 and if I google that I find pages that say things like “All Genuine Toyota Oil Filters Incorporate an anti-drainback valve” but none of these sites actually belong to Toyota.

My oil is only in the car for a maximum of 2000 miles so i'm happy to sacrifice a little filtration for extra pressure.
-
Cheers for the tip. This led me to something interesting I found on the STI website - “reduces pressure loss by 10%” https://www.sti.jp/en/parts/subarubrz_zc/engine/ST15208ST010/ So this is the first time I’ve actually seen figures associated with performance BRZ/86 oil filters. Would be interesting to know if the TRD filter is the same filter with a different logo printed on it or if there is a difference between them. Also came across the HKS Oil Filters which claim “improves oil pressure drop and flow properties by approximately 30%” https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product/oil/oil_filter/index.html

Im after an Oil cooler. All types considered. Preferably with a thermostatic sandwich plate and an Air Duct to capture/divert the air like the Greddy/AVO/Tom’s kits. Drop me a PM if you are selling one.

Picked up a cooler now. Please close the thread.

2014 - There were a number of revisions and improvements. Most 2014 cars dont need the valve spring recall which alone is a big win. But then again the 2012 car may have already had the recall work done. Best to check it out.
