Thanks Lucas, appreciate the offer, but I have the front camber bolts already and am leaning strongly towards the LCA instead of bushes for the back, mostly because the correction I need is outside the range of the bushes
-
Yes, that is definitely the next question. I have to start with being able to make the adjustments first, then I can optimise them - at the moment they are just broken! I was thinking of Lauren's suggestion as a starting point, but even those seem slightly more than I expected for road use, but with no further clues, I have to start somewhere!
-
Thanks Lauren. Are these the Summit ones? http://www.fensport.co.uk/parts/toyota/gt-86/zn6/chassis-tuning/gt86-swave-rear-camber-control-arms-pair/ I want to avoid additional harshness and cost right now so am debating the Whiteline or Eibach ones, but would consider more if it was taking me in the right direction rather than just fixing the immediate issue, which I have to do by Monday afternoon! Argh, I hate not knowing what I am doing - lol
-
Hahaha - well put - terrible indeed! I didn't want to try sort the toe till I get the camber sorted otherwise I will have to do it all again. As for the SPL LCA's, they are just a bit past my threshold of want vs need If you weren't getting those, what would be your next best option?
-
LoL Good to know I am not alone then
-
Ok, thanks. My thoughts were if I am spending £216 on a set of the cheapest, why not spend £380 and get ones that are more easily adjustable, but my logic could very easily be faulty as it's been a VERY long time since I last modified any of my cars.... Your explanation makes good sense and I haven't done enough research or have enough knowledge about this market space or the vendors to have a valid view. Sometimes I hate being the newbie - lol

Great question Church... I wish I knew WTH.... I have only had the car for just over a week and I haven't hit anything, so who knows before that Do you mean LCA's like this then? http://www.amber-performance.co.uk/product.php?xProd=26532 How about the ones I linked - they look like a more sensible adjustment to me - similar to the Velox ones, but not as expensive

I see I fired up another interesting discussion My results are in and they are not very pretty. I am still about 90% sure the issue I am having is not alignment but rather the tyres, but the alignment sure isn't helping the rear of the car. The front is still pretty acceptable (toe needs fixing) and seems like an intentional setup (using camber bolts), but the rear is just broken and has no adjustment available. See attached image for fun evidence Going to chat to Toyota to see their suggestions and if nothing useful, will probably be looking at some camber arms. Any suggestions on those? The ones I have seen are: http://www.fensport.co.uk/parts/toyota/gt-86/zn6/chassis-tuning/gt86-swave-rear-camber-control-arms-pair/ with http://www.fensport.co.uk/parts/toyota/gt-86/zn6/chassis-tuning/gt86-swave-rear-toe-control-arm-set/ OR http://www.fensport.co.uk/parts/toyota/gt-86/zn6/chassis-tuning/gt86-control-arm-lower-and-adjustable-toe-control-arm-kit/ Appreciate your time and energy put into the responses, so thank you all

Thanks for the explanations Church. I don't mind a bit of roll in a car, particularly on the road - it can sometimes help with feeling what is coming next as you can feel the chassis loading up. Besides, I try to avoid driving like a hoon on the roads - I save that for my karting Makes sense Lauren - going to get it checked today too if possible. Previous owner did seem particular about the car so doubt he missed it, but still want it checked
-
Thanks Lauren Like all forums, differing opinions abound, so all good Seems the NS2-R's are very track focused which is not what I am after right now, so I think I will try out the PS4's and see how I get on, as I don't fancy aquaplaning front or rear tbh!
-
Thanks for the input. I am trying to make sense of it as I wouldn't think the alignment would affect pulling away from a standstill and they slip nearly every time I pull away (and I am bearing in mind it's wet at the moment, so it's barely 1/4 throttle at most). It even does it in the dry and the front pushes on at fairly low speeds, which could be alignment. I am going to get the alignment checked regardless, but it doesn't seem like that would be the issue for the rear tyres? Anyone have any idea how much the standard geometry would have changed with the different wheels/tyres and spring lowering? I think the fact the car has had the tyres around End 2014 (Mid September 2014 at the earliest as that was manufacture date), and has only done around 11k miles since then which means it has been sat doing nothing for some months in the last year to two - surely that must have affected them negatively?
-
Thanks Church - input gratefully received! Just as a newbie, are OEM twins the BRZ/GT86 pair? And then DD & Track - Daily Driver and Track test? I like to check I am understanding correctly I don't the lowering, but the ride and handling should not be compromised by it. Showa are 15/15mm F/R and Ohlins 20/15mm F/R which sounds ok. Showa seems difficult to get hold of and would be another experiment, and the Ohlins are just downright expensive and I still have no way of knowing if they are right for me. Is it just me, or is that too much to splash out because it 'should' be right? I see they measure the spring rates in N/mm - stock (from other threads) is about 3kg/mm or 29.4 N/mm which is less than the Showa (35/40) , but seems like it should still be ok for some compliance. It's a lot lower than the TEIN seems to be set by default 59/59 or 49/59 for Lauren's example Sorry for all the spam - hopefully I am getting there, albeit slowly!
-
That sounds expensive
-
Not a silly suggestion at all. As it turns out these tyres are confusing which doesn't help - they are Aysmetrical, but are not directional. That means the Asymetric tread points in a different direction on each side of the car. They are fitted correctly - i.e. the Outside (Exterior in this case) is on the outside of the wheel all the way round. The rears are more worn than the fronts (surprise surprise!), but still have 3mm. Should still not be spinning from every junction and trying to slide round every roundabout (unintentionally anyway!). Toyota gave the car the all clear so I am back to square one. Suppose it's new tyres then, just to be safe! Save these for track/drift days - lol
-
Now that would be a very pleasant surprise instead!

Thank you Lauren - all your input is appreciated. I read the thread about 'Lauren's TEIN settings' with interest too I drove a BMW 3 series for a few years and hated the way it skipped across badly surfaced roads. It also handled well at higher speeds, particularly with better surfaces, but that meant I was always driving everywhere too fast and generally taking risks just to enjoy the chassis and handling. In contrast to that, the Cayman S barely noticed the road imperfections and just dealt with the surface yet still handled impeccably. It was possible to have fun in that car within the legal speed limit on any roads and that is really what I am after again, although I am sure I will have to accept some compromises It may well be possible with a similar setup to yours - I have been eyeing out the Flex Z and EDFC Active Pro setup, but need to understand spring rates, maximum travel etc. I am not sure if I may be better off with separate spring/damper combo either.... Hey ho - fun & games start already..... Oh, and.. I will also need to have a talk with my bank balance
-
My apologies - not explaining myself very clearly I am looking to get a set of springs / dampers (or coilovers if suitable) that sit a little higher than what I have right now (approx 25mm drop) - so about 15-20mm drop from stock, but with sensible spring and damper rates (preferably active/ variable). This will be primarily for road and occasional track use. I mostly want a flowing not bumpy/jerky/skittish ride for road use (i.e. Nothing like a Z4M, or most other BMW's for that matter) and to be able to tweak and probably firm that up for track use (depending on the track). Hope that made a little more sense!
-
Thanks for the feedback - all very appreciated! I have assumed the tyres have hardened with sitting around and have been looking at replacements, but wanted to check with people who should know before I did! At the moment, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4's are top of the list, followed by the Continentals, but open to suggestions! That's a long time to run the TEIN setup - I am guessing you know it well!! I am already struggling with some speed bumps and in particular my driveway and a exit hump at work, so wanting to lift the car by 5-10mm at the moment from the approx 25mm drop the Eibach's gave it. I got spoilt by Porsche and Lotus suspension and am looking for something similar, but may be dreaming!
-
They are 3814, so slightly over what you said. The Rota wheels are 7.5" wide instead of the 7" stock, so tyres slightly wider to fit.
-
That may well be the way forward - It's difficult to say without actually driving it though. Loads of things seem good in theory, then not so much in practice and I don't want to try it 5 different setups to find out! (Chicken, I know!) I don't actually know enough about it yet for this car to have any useful conversations, so much more investigation required - any suggestions welcome
-
Haha - nicely put No ARB's on there as far as I know - the kit was springs only. Also, Fensport didn't know about it (and they have nearly all the car's mod history) and I haven't checked for myself (yet). I will be asking questions about the suspension soon as I am looking for something fairly specific, but does not seem very common... Compliance and some travel for 95% of driving and the ability to tighten it up for 'other' uses Along the lines of the Porsche Active Suspension basically.

Thanks guys. Tyre pressures are bang on stock - checked those Sunday, so 2.4 / 35psi. The symptoms feel like double or triple those pressures - it's that slippery! Not checked alignment yet, but this symptoms are pretty extreme so the wheels should be pointing in some weird directions!. Car is obviously bit stiffer on the Eibach Pro Kit, which will make it push and lose grip a bit more in the wet, but my Justy with 175/65 R 14 tyres had more grip, so that's not right.... Off to Toyota tomorrow to get a free health check so will see what they say...

Good eyes! Especially from pictures that shrunk more than I expected That's most of them. Samco intake hose with HKS filter, Milltek overpipe, front pipe, cat back resonated exhaust, Fensport switchable remap, Eibach Pro-Kit springs, Rota Torque 17x7.5 wheels, Bushes and camber adjusters Valenti Tail lights, BRZ fender insert, High Level LED brake light,- Internal lights replace with LED. Lowered clutch action (too low methinks) Thats as much as I have managed to work out so far

Hi All, Just picked up my 13 reg GT86 after 5 years of wanting a BRZ. I couldn't turn this one down with some choice mods already done and in my favourite blue! I was going to wait a year or two for the new models to come down in price, but this was at a price and availability I could not ignore. So far it's all good!! I can already see a few more more changes on their way, but probably best to get used to it first then change what is necessary... Whatever that means.... Looking forward to making it's and your acquaintance in the coming months Cheers, Graeme
