i moved from an RX8 231 to a GT86 in 2013 and wasn't quite so lucky with the engine as it cracked the ceramic surround on a spark plug tip , which hit a vane . Loved the RX8 , still do, the way it just pulled to 8K was more like a bike, but I found the driving experience on the GT86 as much fun and after a run with my son as shotgun we both saw the same times on a stretch of familiar road. I'm about to pick up my third GT86 if that's any testament. All have been reliable, great fun and as for the torque dip , yes it's there but its got 6 gears to choose from to keep the revs above it. I think there were some slight tweaks to the suspension geometry in the 2016 cars but someone here will know more about that than me.

regarding the tickling bell I had a similar sound which turned out to be the gear stick coupling under the transmission tunnel. It seemed to start on acceleration over 4K revs. After a few runs with the local garage service manager in the passenger seat they had it in and changed the linkage under warranty.

Really interesting read. I ordered the blue with suspension pack last month to replace my 2016 model but have to wait until feb to get it, so have been looking for a write up comparison. The local dealers have a blue edition in but without the suspension pack. I noticed a small difference in my current one after the previous 2013 ginger in that it seems a little more eager to turn in and feels more balanced. Possibly all in my head but there is a difference to me. I’ve also experienced the standard brakes fading away too quickly so am keen to see if the brembos make a big difference. Thanks to Lauren for the excellent write up, it’s given me something to look forward to while I count the days off. 😊- 12 replies

well, after 3 years of absolute fun it's time for the old girl to go. I loved everything about this car , the ginger colour, the growl of the exhaust after 5k, the way she twitches too easily round the bends but can swing into a lovely fast series of sweeping curves with authority. I've searched all the alternatives and struggled to find anything to suit. I was very tempted by the new merc SLc and the mustang but Friday old Ginge is being traded in for...... a new ice silver gt86 with leather and touch & go. I was forced into changing colour as so many commented "no one will know you've got a new car" and it does look nice. Downside- back to 4k rev run in and incremental increase for next 1000miles or so. I think a trip is on at the weekend.... a long trip

Guitarist for last 50 yrs, I started young. Just play for fun now. Collection includes a prs custom, a Jem signed by Steve vai , 5 pickup strat, banjo, ukelele, 12 string, variax and a couple of keyboards. Got rid of the marshal stack, it wouldn't fit in the 86 boot😀

don't listen to the showroom guys, the one who rode shotgun on my first demo run tried to convince me the VSC button changed the suspension settings! and his mate told me the battery was running down because I hadn't turned everything on and loaded it up as it charged better that way !! I ran mine in as Lauren said above. warm it up, load it with varying throttle, work the gears and increase the rev limit in stages after 1000 with the odd little blip over 4000 for "overtaking purposes only", I raised the rev limit guide light/beep by 1000 rpm every, 100 miles after the 1000 as well. I also found setting up torque app (or similar like dashboard on ios or android, hobdrive on android or win CE) on a very cheap iconia 7" android tablet showing oil temp etc was useful to show when it was warmed up properly. Now at 13000 miles and it's so free revving I'm afraid I occasionally forget myself and bounce it off the limiter. Best advice I was given....it's a great car so enjoy it while you can.

i had an interesting take on this at the oulton park day yesterday. After a few laps with the instructor i asked him about it and he said leave them on, if you drive smoothly it won't interfere and it won't impede your speed. There again he may have just been politely commenting on my dodgy driving skills
