Didn't want to drive 100 miles with an unknown fault xD

I've got a strange tapping/knocking noise coming from the front left, it's mainly when im turning my wheel to the left at low speeds and on full lock at low speeds however it sometimes occurs turning the wheel right also. I thought it was the top mounts and had it confirmed by a garage but after replacing the top mounts the problem still exists so i'm confused as to what else it could be. See video in the link below for an example of the noise, it's louder in person and can be heard outside the car also. Has anyone come across this kind of issue before or have any ideas? I'm guessing it's going to need to go in to Toyota however after the mess they made during my last service with them i'm trying to avoid this :(.

It gets worse when the guy couldn't diagnose his own fault he caused, changed top mounts on his advise and then when that failed he just said he had no idea. Yeah i've moved to a different mechanic now, issue is I haven't lived in this area long so haven't got to know any local mechanics enough to know whos good and who's bad. I do the majority of the work on my car though generally unless I get completely stumped, this was just laziness that I didnt change the pads myself.

For anyone interested or having a similar noise in the future. This turned out to be due to brake line being tangled, weird one. Basically it looks like the mechanic who changed my brake pads (my own fault for being lazy and not doing it myself) wrapped the brake line around part of the car when reconnecting. This meant that as I turned the wheel the cable went taut and tightened causing the noise in the video. Lesson to be learned, don't be lazy kids. Do any work you can on your car yourself.

I live a mile from a Shell garage don't worry haha. Plus i ain't driving currently because of the issue.

Creaking probably a better way of describing noise yeah. Suspension on the car is stock currently yeah, any mods on it can't be related except the front strut brace but I took that off and it's the same. I thought about wheel bearing but you'd normally feel that.

The turbo kit looks decent tbf. I'm awaiting reviews from the first wave of real world people before I bite the bullet though.

Thanks for the prices. Those prices just for the wing or boot lid as well? I'm assuming that would need a full spray after welding for the pearl to match.

+1 for Bram Racing, I got my wheels aligned there last year. Guy is really sound and has worked on a few 86's around that area.

Sorry can't help with your query but I'm wanting to do a similar thing myself in the future. Could you give me a shout where you end up going to get it all sorted and what they charged? I wouldn't expect spraying the pearl white to be cheap though.

I'm doing mine with Aviva this year, cheapest quote that i've found around plus if your work pension is with Aviva then they knock 20% off the quote.

Hi all. I'm wanting to get some coilovers for the 86 and wondering if you guys could give any opinions on selection? I've narrowed down to either Tein Flex A's or KW V3's, has anyone had experience with both or even just the KW's? I've seen a lot of praises sung around Flex A's but I know KW is a solid brand and I can get them at cost price so it wouldn't cost me much more to get them instead of Flex A's. So yeah, what are peoples thoughts/experiences/preferences on these 2?

@GT86Bob not too late currently, ive only managed to make it for a quote with Greg Howel and a local Leamington bodyshop. Greg quoted £900 and said whole rear quarter will need painting, I think thats a bit steep personally the paints expensive but I wouldn't say the whole rear panel would need doing from that? Other garage didn't seem to understand how the pearl paint works with 3 stage painting so guna give them a miss. Ill give your guys a look up and see if they also reckon a full quarter paintjob is needed. Thanks!

To my horror a friend opened the passenger door into an oncoming Royal Mail van this weekend, it's safe to say plenty of screaming and swearing occured. Can anyone recommend any decent bodyshops around Leamington Spa/Stratford-Upon-Avon area? Can't bare to go to the passenger side currently knowing it's there!

It is indeed a TRD. I live in Stratford and work in Leamington so I'm between both places each day. I see a lot of standard 86s and I know there's an aero in Warwick but I believe I'm the only TRD. So if you see a white TRD it's prob me, give me a flash and a wave ;-). As for Greg I've organised to go see him for a quote Monday so I'll gauge him up then. Took it to Spa Motors Thursday and guy seemed like an ass there and quoted me £540 which I think was an overquote because he didn't want to do it. He pulled the figure out of his ass within 5 seconds of seeing the car.

Not done it yet but planning on getting mine wrapped in matte white in next month or 2 and getting some kind a black decal on the passenger dash area.
