Did I end up buying your standard resonator? I can't remember now. I have a standard resonator TD set up, but with no other mods. I don't find it drones but sometimes these things can be quite personal perception. My only observation is it is very loud at cold start but soon settles down once past cat warm up.

Okay, there are no wrong answers here! I've been eyeing up some OZ Leggera HLT in gold for my Mica Blue BRZ. If you aren't familiar, the Leggera looks like this: Now in 5x100 you can get the following: Option 1: 17"x7.5J ET35 This seems to be the perfect size/offset for our cars and comes with the advantage that I can use my existing tyres as they have loads of tread on them Option 2: 18"x8J ET35 Now with the wheel being 1" wider than stock and the offset being 13mm more poke this would put the wheel 25.7mm further out - is that too far? Will it possibly rub with the body work? Option 3: 18"x8J ET 45 Much like option 2 but 15.7mm more poke than stock - feels like this might be a better compromise I'd wrap an 18" in a 225 40R18 tyre and almost certainly drop the ride height (with springs!) by 20-25mm. There is of course an Option 4 which is put the ET45s on the front and the ET35s on the back Let's have your thoughts and in the meantime here is what it could look like - unfortunately I don't know what the offset is on these wheels but looking at the back I wonder if they are ET45

Well said! I also prefer the looks of my current car but sometimes these things look better in the metal.

Bosch batteries are good. I do recommend a battery conditioner/charger if you aren't using it much during lockdown and/or short trips only. I've got a CTEK conditioner which has recovered my battery and kept me going the past year. It comes with nice little tails so you can integrate it with your vehicle wiring so you end up with a nice little connector plug under the bonnet which makes it super easy to use.

£200 does sound a bit juicy. I'd find somewhere else, local exhaust centre maybe? It's probably 30mins work, you're paying for their ramps etc. so £50-60 maybe?
-
So as a Subaru owner I can't imagine the downgrade to a Toyota, but if I was to take a step down to a GT86 it would probably be in red. Good choice! A bit of pre-weekend trolling there! I'm in an end-of-week mood.

US prices often look really good because they don't include sales tax; what we call VAT. They have to pay it on top of the price when they take it to the till, very confusing when you first go stateside! Don't get me wrong, they do have some bargains but as others have pointed out, by the time you've got it over here, paid the VAT, the import duty and various handlers who will bill you for presenting you with a bill then suddenly importing sounds expensive. Bide your time and most of what you have called out comes up for sale second hand as people part out. As for an 80" TV, jesus wept! How big a wall do you have to fit it on?

Can an aftermarket steering wheel be used on 2017+ GT86
McDude replied to Aidensolovely's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
I would have thought the sensor was in the top of the steering column, not in the wheel itself. Certainly nothing in a 2012 wheel of any significance.- 6 replies

I don't think that's true, the layout of a boxer engine is inherently lower than an inline engine, there's no getting around that even if you mount one on an incline (slant if it's longitudinal I guess!) as for fitting an inline engine in, that's possible but probably not if you respect pedestrian crash regs. Not a concern for aftermarket, but it is for OEMs. You can't have a saucy bonnet line with an engine sitting right underneath, you need a collapsible gap - or an active bonnet. Anyway, this is all moot and goes back to a frankly silly suggestion that they just chuck in the Yaris I4 as if it were that easy - again for an OEM. Design and Sign off criteria are much higher than one offs, obviously.
-
Very good point, could make it AWD like the Yaris I suppose but, no there are too many things that make putting the Yaris engine in a bad idea including this... Indeed! You wouldn't have a low bonnet line or COG I like that they are Naturally Aspirated, no offence to those running boosted, but there is something immensely rewarding about an NA engine. You've got to really wring it to get the best out of it and for me that's a lot of fun. I'll go back to my previous point (and others have made it); there's nothing earthshattering about the changes here, even though Subaru/Toyota are billing them as ground up changes. A bit of sheet metal here and there and some updated trim; a revision to the engine and the suspension but it's pretty much the same car and that's a good thing. A BRZ/GT86 stands out as an oddity in a sea of highly competent but quite samey hot hatches* and that this can continue for a few more years is great. *yes the Yaris GR does look epic
-
That's a bit of a bigger job though! The 2.4l is fundamentally the same engine, same 'box, same mounts, ancillaries etc. A transverse mounted I4 isn't even close! You're into new platform territory.
-
This is a moderate mid cycle change; fundamentally the same car underneath but some significant revisions - very interesting Increased displacement of fundamentally the same engine, revised sheet metal but over the original platform (roof/door/C-Pillar look the same as before), revised interior. If it keeps BRZ/GT86s on the road for longer then great. All new is a stretch, but significantly revised.
-
Yeah, that's not for me. But for the price of the OZ wheels you could pay for the Protrack and a respray - seems a light wheel.
-
Those Protrack look great, but no gold option for Subaru owners edited to add that at the price for a wheel that light you could afford to have them resprayed! I've always liked these: https://www.macgracing.co.uk/shop/18/52-fullrace-a-8-x-18.html but no idea of weight. I think you can get just about any offset/hole pattern etc imaginable
-
My other consideration would be Japan Racing JR18 which come in a 8.5J so this is good to hear. I'm just a bit concerned about the weight of them, I think they tip the scales at over 10kg, whereas the OZ are low 9s, so similar to stock. That's a lot of unsprung mass to contend with otherwise.
-
We've not met - I'm antisocial when it comes to such meet ups What tyre size do you run on your 8.5J rims?
-
No, just a stock car running stock Cal. I was surprised the sparks didn't last, but in fairness the service manual does state 30k miles (appreciate there is some ambiguity in this and different interpretations).
-
I'd be wary of mis-diagnosis as well. I had the coilpack error DTC but it was occurring (and recurring following a DTC clear) on an old set of plugs. Following a new set of plugs this has never returned. Car was 7 years old and 35k miles at the time; I'd never dream of changing plugs that early on any other car but I had it done at the time of the valve spring recall. The 'old' plugs mean you're driving the coilpack too hard. You might end up failing a £100 coilpack for the sake of a £10 spark plug. Yes, I know they are an arse to get to!!!

Thanks chaps - good recommendations

Does the negative camber come by virtue of dropping the car? As it's a macpherson up front, is there room to move the top mount!?! I can't figure out how you'd increase the camber up front. Actually looking at the rear not sure how you'd achieve that either as all the joints look like fixed points. I've not done any spannering on this car (other than plumb in a new stereo) and I'm not about to start. I'm too old to get cold and dirty at weekends, swearing at 8 year old seized suspension assemblies! I used to have a 205 GTi so I'm done with all that, though still respect those that do. But I do like to be able to discuss knowledgeably with my friendly mechanic.

Red 2013 GT86 perfected for fast road use by Rally Prep £12000
McDude replied to mattt's topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Cars
Sounds about right, looking at the dish in the alloys and how well they fit flush to the arch. Looking at a gold set for my BRZ. -
Very interested in this - 215mm on a 8" wheel should be perfect/square. Assume they fitted okay without stretch.

It looks a great car so here's a free bump! What offset did you go for on those wheels? They look fantastic. -
I love your new wheel - I've just had mine retrimmed almost identically. But you've managed to flatten the bottom, very slick! How are you going to get the plastics to marry up though?
-
The build is looking great - I have a question about this picture, I know it's not your car, but do you know what alloys they are on it?
