    Rotational Squeaking from Discs?

The parts guy at toyota said he never sells them so I doubt many people actually do renew them bolts. I’m sure my PFC or EBC pads instructions said not to file the pads, and to file the carrier instead. But I know what you mean, the paint isn’t exactly uniform on the pads. Last time I tried to stops the squeaks, I had to file the stock pads to stop them from sticking coz rust had bubbled up under the paint. All fun and games lol

Actual copper grease? Hope you didn’t use it on the slider pins! What else did you get in the kit? Was it just the rubber boots and seals? Didn’t know toyota even had an eBay store lol. https://mintex.com/copper-slip-vs-ceratec/?lang=en-gbr

    Recommendations on brake pads?

I’ve just changed the discs and pads all round on mine - I’m pretty certain they were the same ones from factory, I can’t find anything on MyToyota login or invoices from the previous owner about brake changes. I haven’t changed them in the 2 years I’ve owned the car either. The rear discs were below min thickness of 16mm, with about 2mm of pad left. The front discs were just over min at 22.35mm with about 3-4mm of pad left. 32,000 miles and just over 4 years old. So it looks like for me at least, one set of discs per set of pads! Only tracked it once, and the rest of the time the car is my daily...

You’re right about the kit church, it’s doesn’t include the pad support plates - my mistake! I bought a kit from eBay which came with new boots for the sliders and new grease but had to send them back because they were for non vented discs. Annoying! Looks like I may have to pay toyota prices for new plates and boots [emoji24]

You shouldn't really have to file the pads themselves. The caliper carrier contact points should be filed down to clean metal and all brake dust and crud cleaned off. The shims that the pads sit in are non re-usable parts and are supposed to be changed when the pads are changed. They're a jip from Toyota if you buy them separately, but I think they come as part of a caliper rebuild kit that also comes with new rubber boots for the slider pins, new piston seals, and grease - its £20 for the pack but I dunno if that was per axel or per caliper.. The caliper carrier bolts have to be renewed as well when changing the discs, they cost me about £20 for 8 bolts from Toyota. You also need to renew the bush on the lower slider pin on each of the calipers, as well as cleaning and re-greasing the pins and fitting new boots. If any of the above is missed it can cause sticking etc. The metal backing plates are "supposed" to be anti squeal shims lol with another shim in between those and the pad. You need to put grease between the pad and the backing plate according to the repair manual. I got new thinner metal backing plates/shims with my EBS Yellowstuff pads so I used them instead.

    Rotational Squeaking from Discs?

The shims that the pads sit in get dirty and cause the inner pad to stick. I’ve just changed the discs and pads all round, and the insides of the discs had uneven wear. It’s worth cleaning the shims but if the inside of the disc is uneven it may not make much difference . This is one of the shims I took out of the rear callipers yesterday

    Recommendations on brake pads?

They’re not both left hand discs - look at the groove directions. The label is wrong, they did the same with mine!

    Rotational Squeaking from Discs?

Don’t use copper grease. Use proper disc brake grease like cera-tec. The repair manual states “Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease” If you buy the bush and shin kit from toyota it comes with the grease you need to use. I’ve always found copper grease attracts dirt and can harden over time. Not recommended for abs either I think.

    parts for sale

I think they’re legit oz made specially for that race format, don’t think you can buy them retail. Need spacers to fit tho. Lush wheels, good size too [emoji1786]

    Wanted: gt86 double din fascia

I don't think you get the metal brackets with the one for a tenner, and the gap around the top and bottom of the headunit will be bigger and more noticeable depending on the style of stereo you go for. Its not a fiesta, so parts like this are always gonna be more expensive due to the small customer base! Its a wounder paying that much for a couple of brackets and a bit of plastic tho. Would've been so much better if the bigger brands did the Toyota wide stereos over here.
  13. There's someone selling one on the "UK GT86 & BRZ cars & parts for sale" facebook page dude. Think he's in Newcastle as well

Sat nav slow to update position

What do you mean by "sat nav unit"? An aftermarket headunit or an oem headunit etc? What antenna did you buy and where did you install it?

    Excessive squeaking rear tyres

Shims! That's the word lol Glad its pretty much sorted for you!
  17. Is it defo from the parcel shelf? My sub was causing a buzz/rattle at certain frequencies, and it was a couple of the cables in the rear light cluster that was causing it. There was also a bit of a buzzing from a small section at the centre of the parcel shelf which I packed from underneath with some thick plastic bag stuff (only thing I had to hand). I've now got a new rattle from the interior light thingy now, cant win 😭

Buying a SARD LSR Replica Wing

I think you're probably right about that. I bought a carbon replica TRD style spoiler from Ali Express; the quality was good, but far from perfect. For the £120 or whatever it was, I shouldn't complain tho 😂

    Where Did You Buy?

I think its only the cars that are marked "Toyota Plus Approved" that come with a 12 month warranty. I think all GT86s had a 5 year warranty from new, but I'm not so sure about the earlier BRZs. Make sure there's a full service history with the car. Back when I was looking for a used 86, Evans Halshaw and some smaller dealers would have them with missing history - which would void the 5 year warranty. They were cheaper tho. But in the 14 months I've had mine, I've had about 5 warranty issues sorted by RRG Toyota Macclesfield, and I think the previous owner had a couple issues sorted too! There were very few private sellers, I think due to the value of the cars most people probably prefer to trade them in. The sale sections on the forums, pistonheads, ebay etc are your best bet for private sales. I bought mine from Toyota in Edinburgh, it was slightly modded, which I reckon is why they hadn't been able to sell it for 3 months until I came along lol Good luck!

    Deacons '86

The 40deg intake temps weren't whilst driving were they? Or were they taken before the carbon bonnet? That gigantic scoop seems to be doing a good job like! Any noticeable effect on coolant temps? Digging the all custom work you've done!

    Excessive squeaking rear tyres

Squealing rear stock brake pads were the bane of my life lol I only had the squealing without pressing the brake pedal issue when the rear calipers were rammed full of dirt and copper grease preventing the pads from sliding properly. They were so bad that I could stop on small hills without using the handbrake or brakes and not roll back! The car was 2.5 years old when I bought her with full service history from the same Scottish Toyota dealership. I stripped the brakes (had to use brute force + prybar to get the pads out of the calipers!) and cleaned the whole lot the first month after buying the car, filed down the contact edges of the pads (which had corrosion bubbling up under the paint) and applied CeraTec grease instead of copper crap and they were fine after that, and I was back to using the handbrake on hills lol I think I ended up doing another strip down in the first year I owned the car, but the squealing would only stop for a few months. The pads binding and acting as a handbrake hasn't come back as bad, but I've started to feel a little resistance now and its not from the handbrake shoes. I've decided that the squealing tends to come and go on its own. Its probably been over 6 months since I last stripped the rear brakes. They've squealed badly a few times, but cleared up after a few days - just as I was getting tempted to pull the tool box out lol. If you've got a lot of pad left try giving them a clean up. But if you do go for a new set of pads (I think you want the ones for the bigger wheels) try to get a set of the metal bits that the pads slide in (can't for the life of me think of the proper name lol) - its an absolute ballache to clean the old ones!

    New rims for my BRZ

I like 5 spokes but I don't like chrome I don't think chrome has the same effect in Manchester as it would in Los Angles lol Points for being different tho, I don't think I've seen any chrome on a Jap car in the UK before!
