  1. I'm really looking forward to this. Hopefully it wont be too busy so we'll have plenty of space to experiment.

    Coilovers and settings

I presume you have this set then? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/coilover-suspension-kits/car/toyota/gt86/2012/2-0/hr-coilover-suspension-kit-monotube-lowers-front-20-40mm-and-lowers-rear-15-30mm As rich said how low it is? these adjust height with the spring perch so as you go lower you trade bump for droop travel. These arnt spec'd to lower the car much at all. 30mm max which is not that noticeable. If they have been set too low you could be hitting the bumpstops easily which is what would cause a very firm ride. In that case i'd raise the car up a good 20mm.

Did you speak to Pete Collen? The 332mm AP kit for the gt86 is almost exactly the same as the stock bias. My spreadsheet puts them at about 70% to the front. Happy to send you the spreadsheet if you want to use it for other brake kits. You need to put in the piston diameters, disc diameter and pad swept area to compare to stock.

Yes Matt is as open as management allow him to be. He's offered me the drawing for the smaller pulley if I want to get one made up, but I like my stock rods! Matt is currently running the SC at 19k rpms (0.9Bar boost) for around 350hp currently but it require a larger crank pully to make it work with the 10% smaller pulley and some welding. So the best option is a new nose with higher gearing to spin it faster.

Welcome back! Lots of options for forced induction. No doubt you've read the Cosworth thread on the other side. Lots of info on their analysis of the stock engine over there. I believe your mini R53 is an older generation Eaton roots charger so I suspect that will feel similar to the current TVS charger kits. Basically like a bigger engine. Welcome to have a test drive in mine. I'm at Bedford Auto on the 2nd December.

    Ade's Road and Track Toy

On Saturday I did the "cornering Masterclass" with CAT driver training at Milbrooke. It was an fantastic day and I enjoy both the driving and chatting with @Keethos @spikyone @CATDT (Jo and Paul). Some Details of the day. We started on the mile straight were Paul and I worked on my left foot braking technique. What I didn't know was the affect of using the left foot and the throttle at the same time, as the brakes primarily affect the front but the throttle the back end, they can be used together to induce some extra turn in. Next we went the high speed ring. We focused on double lane changes, first switching lanes smoothly while holding the throttle, then in sport mode, then all aids switched off. This is the point I realised that the aids are really holding me back at the track I would say seconds per lap. I found that even in sport mode it was using the rear brakes and scubbing speed during high speed transitions even though the back end was only slipping a little. This was particularly evident at blyton at the ump and wiggle where the quick left then right would cause the VSC to kick in if I went too fast. Next paul asked me to power out of the corner, but warned of oversteer with all aids of. 3rd gear 4k revs, turn in, ease and squeese out, lovely! little wiggle at the back and some great feedback through the wheel. I was buzzing so asked Paul if I could try it in 2nd where the car will be close to peak torque. Whoops too much throttle and before I knew it I was going sideways down the ring. Then we went to the steering pad. Great fun trying to drift and control oversteer. Its a lot hard than it looks! I did get the most drifty crown at the end of the day After lunch we were at the handling circuit. We got some laps in practicing consistency with input from Paul then came the 3 times laps where they were looking for consistency. The aim was within 2 seconds of one another. I managed 0.25 seconds between the first two and then 0.8s between the next one as I made a slight mistake. It was enough to win the bottle of champers though so I was quite happy about that! Finally we were on the alpine circuit were it could all get strung together. I really liked this as it was more about road craft and how to read the road not knowing the circuit very well, its a bit like driving a nice back road you dont know that well. Fantastic day and looking forward to perhaps some one on one next year to get to grips with over grip limit as I feel that's my weak point which prevents me from wanting to turn all the aids off.

Some time getting the car ready for winter. Polished with a DA and Merenza 3800. Then two coats of extra gloss protection and one coat of wax. Im quite happy with the results.

I got the wheel bearing changed. Had to get the sledgehammer out to get it to crack lose but it came out in the end. Old vs New http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a221/BD1985/Mobile Uploads/20160930_201705_zpsolenr7e2.jpg Had a nice chat to the parts manager at another dealer near me. He said mine is the only modified GT86 they have seen and its likely the service guys will get funny about all the modifications when I ask for a new battery. No surprise there!...

3mm washers? My discs are 356mm so I need to move my calipers out 3mm to fit a 362mm disc.

Too busy polishing cars making money to splash out on more mods you dont have time to fit

Odd clicking noise from steering rack

Is the clicking noise time with the speed of the car? If its when turning the wheel, then could be coil bind?

Yeah sorry I meant a tarox Brembo sti spec disc. 326x30mm If that is the case its good because you have many disc options in the future.

    Robs S/C GT86 Project

I suspect its an STI brembo disc, dual drilled for 5x114 and 5x100. 326 not 362! these fit under 17" rims so dont worry you still have the biggest brakes of anyone

Stoptechs vs AP racing 4 pot BBKs

I cant think of any others than the AP kit. They had to make a thinner version of their CP6600 caliper and use a thinner disc to make it fit.

How long are your track sessions typically Kevin? That's not bad life at all, though sprinting is not as hard on the brakes as trackdays. DBA state their Kangaroo paw vane design is up to 20% better cooling than the standard straight vanes so well worth the expense as they probably increase pad life.

Nice. So they are solid discs. Could have sworn they were bolted on the website. They nicked wilwoods design which was nicked by ap racing by having a big pad retaining bolt rather than pins. Make pad changes a doddle. Are the calipers aluminium?

There certainly is an element of "will they work properly" when things get hot and it's nice to have the confidence to push on knowing it'll be fade free.

Well technically it is kinetic energy you need to dissipate to stop, and it goes up with the square of the speed, so doubling speed quadruples the amount of energy required to stop. With 50% more power you are entering the braking zones faster. Here is a good comparison. At Snetterton down bentley supercharged I was hitting 125mph so thats 2.1 Mega Joules Stock I was hitting 112mph so thats 1.7 Mega Joules That's 25% more heat alone, but on top of that because you are going faster, there is less time for the discs to cool between braking zones. Okay so thats the theory but heres a bit of practical. I took mine to bedford with race pads. Stock car apart from the coswroth sc and Ohlins coilovers. I was doing 20-30min sessions and went through two tanks of fuel ~200 miles. When I stripped the calipers down I found the dust boots were all crumbled and falling apart and 1 of the pistons was not sliding smoothly. I went through 1/4th of the disc and pad life too. so lets say you have to change the discs and pads every 4 track days. That's about £400 in disc and pads + labour if you dont do it yourself. After 3 trackdays my current brakes have lost about 20% of their usable life. Its staggering. They just dont get very hot by comparison. I'm not saying stock sized brakes cant work, because people have and do make it work, it just depends on how you drive and how hard and long you push at the track as to how long and reliable they will be. Everyone is different on the brakes and I think im a bit hard to be honest.

Adrian has the Cosworth AP Brakes (356mmx32mm disc) on his car which wont fit under a 17" wheel. The AP kit formula is a 332x26mm disc and uses a narrow version of their popular CP6600 calipers so that it will fit behind the stock wheels. The stopteck is a large bulky caliper and uses a 328x28mm disc but wont fit behind the stock wheels. As far as consumables: Stoptech Pads DS2500 £190 a set, Disc ~£600 a pair AP Racing Pads DS2500 £100 a set Discs J hook ~ £600 a pair Not a lot in it to be honest. I would go with the AP kit because it fits under the stock wheels and seems to have cheaper pads, oh and its British
