I got used to the whine very quickly and kinda like it because RACECAR but I can see how it could drive you nuts. Its other nvh that has got me wondering if its worth it or not. Will see how it feels at snetterton and take it from there.

Me too but from my discussions with the cosworth engineers, it would take a lot of work to go beyond 230hp. I'd need to rev past 9k rpms which would require a lot of work. You'd need the engine better balanced, and the valves springs oscillate and break at about 8k rpms. You need better flowing valves too and the oil pump start to leak a lot of pressure much past 8k rpms too. There is a lot more to it that that, but you get the jist that it will be very expensive interms of parts and labour. There is a chap, Celek, on the FT86club attempting an N/A build though if you were interested.

Its worth it. It'll be the time that you dont take anything that the feckin exhaust decides to blow or you boil the brake fluid. Here's a good thread to read: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52624

I'm happy to give passenger rides. Rich I have two garages booked. Dan, my friend and I will share, but it if rains we can easily get another car or two in the garages. Certainly if anyone needs to do any work they can use the garages and also use them to store their toolboxes. Rich I would recommend you bring tools required to get under and torque up the manifold.

Whiteline positive shift insert and Gear Oil Change Last weekend I added the whiteline positive shift insert and changed the gearbox oil to Miller CRX 75W90 I'll start with the whiteline insert. Firstly it a piece of cake to install. Don't follow the instructions or the FT86club install as they will have you remove the frontpipe and unbolt the lower bracket which his not required. All you need to do is jack up the transmission a little, remove the middle bolt and loosen the two either side. Then remove the two exhaust hanger bolts at he back, slide in the insert and bolt it all back together. Initial impression was "Jesus what have I done" as there was noticeably more gearbox whine and vibration in the lower gears and the exhaust seems louder. I don't know if I got used to it or the noise did go down as it all settled in place, but I've got used to it now and i'm okay with it. I do like the added "stiffness" to the shift. 3rd gear has a noticeably firmer feel and feels very nice during quick down shifts during deceleration and heel toeing. The main reason I went with these mods is that the gear shift goes very soft on the track which I have been assuming is the gear oil getting thin and the mounts getting soft with the additional heat. I can still feel the shift getting softer as the gearbox warms up but it is better than before. The real test will be at Snetterton next week so we'll see how it does then, but so far so good. I did notice the gearbox was a bit notchy when cold. More so that stock it seems. I think this maybe down to the Millers being on the thicker side at 40C for a 75W90 oil - good thing for higher temps on the track. Pilfered image:

New gloves in anticipation of Snetterton next week

To be honest, and im not exactly sure how it works, I think the torque biasing can play with brake bias to a degree. The full brembo setup isnt that much changed from stock anyway. Few % forward iirc. Im changing front and back. Rears will be 4pot wilwood superlite calipers and brembo sti disc moving the bias about 8-9% rearward. Fronts is a AP racing 6pot cp7040 with 350mm disc and moves it forward a tad over stock. Overall its about 6-7% rearward. I tried an aggressive compound at the back and oem pads in the front. It felt fine too and I suspect the torque biasing sorting out any issues. I really hope they arrive this week.

Well this event is now fully booked. For those that are going would anyone be interested in a garage spot? My friend has a fisher fury, its tiny and happily will slot in the middle of two gt86s so what I am proposing is we hire two garages for three of us to use. It would work out at £20 each. PM me if interested.

Every Tyre is different. The AD08R have stiff sidewalls and run a bit wider than most performance tyres so they have a wider working range of rim widths. According to Yokohama the AD08R have a recommend rim width range of 8.5-10 for 255/35 R18 7.5-9 for 225/40 R18 Can see specs here: https://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/detail/advan_neova_ad08_r So you are half an inch wider front and back than their recommend maximum. Sorry that not very helpful, just wanted to make you aware of the specs. I used this table when I decided to fit 235/40 R18 to my 9J rims.

looks awsome all ready for snetterton. BCS have promised I will get mine this week.... Have you decided anything with regards to the suspension?
-
Ive got to admit im a bit of a fan of the black wheels and red car look :-) The bilsteins will be good. Just bare in mind the B6 and B8 have the same damping so you might find it a little firmer but should ride better for the most part due to the quality of the internals.

Just sayin... Abbey.... Fensport..... Tuning developments..... Amber...... Tarmac.... Sorry if i've missed any others.

Its not a proper heat shield for the manifold, its just a bit of sticky heat reflective stuff to put on the back of the sump.

That makes sense to me and lines up with what Mark was saying about not seeing massive differences between winter and summer. Happy to admit when a theory is wrong because that all it is. It would rely on the screw sealing 100% though. Having said that, what Lauren describes as power drop off with high IATs is a real thing. Plenty of info on the ft86club about the positive displacement supercharged cars getting hot and many claiming that they are unable to pull away from N/A GT86/FRS/BRZ when they've been lapping a while.

I'm starting to think my cat back is loud. Measured 95.5dB at Bedford. The SC makes it about 3-4dB louder apparently. I really fancy a header but it too liud for my taste even now. Will look forward to hearing it

Not tempted by the ceramic coating?

That Gruppe-s does look good. Will look forward to update once it arrives The tomei with overpipe is like £1k so good saving too.

Hi Mark,
Always comes across like I am attacking the Harrop or Edlebrock. That's not my intention. They are both decent kits and I only speak up when someone bashes the Cosworth kit. In this case it was talk about no extra power to come which is rubbish.
Somehow it turns into a shit storm!
And dyno testing is a very useful tool I know that and I have heard about the recent Cosworth 2.3 woes with the Lamba calibration. None if which would have been spotted by other tuners without the dyno.
Sounds like you did a really nice job getting the extra power at the top and torque at low revs. Hopefully Matt didn't intend to keep torque down at lower revs to help protect the rods though.

Lets just see how the two cars compare at Snetterton!

Yeah they had a change of the parent company in the states so a large gap unfortunately. It should settle to every 6 week again soon though.

I never said you should throw your dyno away! Just saying it not a true test of IATs.

Come on, you know what I meant! Though we might need it when we all go to mars and they try to tax us for air. (I watch total recall last night)

So how does the car makeup for the loss of air density? Its oxygen that creates the power after all... The thing about looking at IATs from Dyno pulls. Both system have about 5 liters of water so it will take time to heat that up due to the specific heat capacity of the water and you're blowing artificial air at the car on a stationary platform whereas in real life as you go faster you are pushing more air through the bumper. The real test will be a Snetterton this month, where Dan and I can properly compared, in the same conditions, what the steady state IATs will be on both kits. It should also show us trap speed on the Vbox so dan will be able to see if he is slowing down on the straights due to loss of power. The Harrop data I posted was from Harrop themselves from driving repeated laps on the track which is more real world data than dyno data I feel.
