Aim SOLO is popular stateside. I know Lee had one here. Have you tried it?

    Lap timers

I always have my phone running/logging while on a trackday. Most tracks don't allow timing equipment because the insurance doesn't allow it, but in this case its a set of forget thing, I wouldn't be too bothered. The stewards will never know....

I missed this. The tein have far, far less damper travel than stock. Its compromise they have to make to be able to offer 50mm lowering. Cant have your cake and eat it.

Its worth noting that the adjustment on these teins is single way, mostly rebound adjustment. It not like you can really tailor the damping profile without a having them custom valved - even then you are limited by the technology inside the damper. What really matters is how digressive the valving is and that's what will gets you lap times. Here's a philfered shock dyno of Koni Yellows vs Tein Flex. Look how the Koni has firmer rebound damping at lowspeed which gives to better control and handling, but at high speed it has less damping than the teins. What this means is when you drive over a pot hole the wheel will move quicker to stay on the ground because it has less rebound at high speed, but when turning into a corner the firmer low speed damping will give more control on turn in than the Teins. Very high end dampers are very flat after the "knee" point on both rebound and compression. $10k Penske damper actually have less damping at high speed compared to low speed.

The B8 has a shorter bumpstop too.

I'd put money on a Bilstein B8 / Spring combo (which costs ~£1k) being as good if not better than most of the sub £1.5k coilovers. You cant have your cake and eat it. Top mounts cost money. Adjustable bleed stafts (damping adjustment) cost money. All of this takes away from the money spend on the shock internals which is what gives you the quality damping.

yeah the front Brembos from any year should fit fine, its the old gold rear callipers that don't fit. You need the 07/08+ rear sti caliper like Jordan has to bolt straight on without and adapter bracket.

    Autotrans update

Did you have a stage 4 AVO billet turbo? AVO stage 3 is good for about 320hp (estimated crank) on ron99 with a ~185hp baseline. +73% Cosworth ~260WHP with a 165WHP baseline at abbey motorsport. +58%

I also see you have the Cosworth SC in your future plans. Are you coming to Bedford on the 29th Feb?

I'd be concerned about gonig 50% firmer in the rear without increasing the damping. That will be massively underdampted. I found them a bit bouncy as they were.... I'd check with HKS what sort of range they recommend. I know Ohlins dont recomment going more than +-25% either side fo the standard 60N/mm rates on the valving they are supplied with.

    Autotrans update

It would be good to have another Cosworth car on the forums. Bare in mind though the Cosworth Kit is under rated a bit. On the Abbey dyno a 2.3 Cosworth car made 261WHP which is about the same as a HKS SC with the step 2 bigger 43mm restrictor...~300hp.... difference is though that the Cosworth SC will have a bit more low end torque which will put pressure on the autobox. Not trying to put you off at all, its an amazing kit with super low IATs even with track abuse, but just filling you in on the sort of power you'll get from it. I'm very happy with the Cosworth calibration too.

    How dare they!

My main car is a Merc with a published combined of 36MPG IIRC..... I rarely manage more than 32MPG and can just about hit 35MPH on long motorway journeys. In the GT86 I managed about 20MPG but if I take it easy on long runs I can easily get into the 40's even with an SC bolted onto the car.

Evo Mag info on the 86/BRZ

Spend 10k on a gt86 and you'll have something faster and more enguaging. Have to be careful with the mods though... and you wont have a warrently.
  16. I know the feeling. It would batter a Cayman S on track though and its a bit more individual.

    Proven simple audio upgrades

I've had oil up to 139C at Snetterton on a 25C day with the stock car. The ECU pulls power once it hits 140C.

Oil temps vary massively with track, driving technique and ambient temperature. I do agree though that oil temperature doesnt need to be constantly monitored once you know in the worst conditions they are safe. Torque is also useful for monitoring IATs if you have forced induction. Particularly the sprintex guys

Ca-Fi Dashlinq is tempting as it can run torque for trackdays...

    Proven simple audio upgrades

I'm an audiophile at home. First priority is the source then the amp and then the speakers. You'd be surprised how good a fairly crap speaker can sound with a good amp. "Upgraded" speakers can often make it worse as the headunit struggles to power them and distorts as a consequence. If you put big low sensitivity speaker in you need to amplify them. Those focals are designed with plenty of sensitivity so that a low power headunit can drive them to an acceptable SPL. Church you'll definity benefit from a better headunit. Then some sound deadening but if you're going to effort of taking off the door trim you might as well spend £50 on a set of speakers. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
