    Nigel's Daily Driver.

Apparently it was but they have released the new MI20 now which is firmer spings and solid top mounts. Apex told me it was in stock so we'll see what I get in the post! might get them on the shock dyno to compare to the old model.

so they have a new MI20 kit with the aluminium top mounts and 7kg front 6kg rear springs. I have a set on order so we'll see what I receive in the post! will be swapping springs around if thay is the case.

    Robs S/C GT86 Project

If everyone just went for performance, all the cars would look the same and it would be a bit boring. Great effort Rob and well done for having the balls and $$ to get it done :-)

Nigel the new MI20 kit apex sent you, did it have 7kg front springs?

The adjustment is mainly the low speed rebound with a bit of low speed compression. You may find a stiffer setting more to your liking becuase it will give you better body control. The high speed damping is still relatively soft and will still absorb the bumps really nicely.
  6. Just a thought, what happens if mid corner you get a pressure drop due to oil starvation and you are in 2nd gear with your boot down at 6.5krpms?
  7. Good stuff Glad someone is taking oil pressure seriously! What weight of oil are you using to gather the above data?
  8. Nice. Where are you measuring Oil Pressue? Would be good to log temp vs pressure vs revs. It's when Oil temps go beyond 130C they start looking scary low, this is compounded if you use a small oil cooler as the radiator itself drops 10-14psi.

Any updates on this very interesting build?

    Bridgestone RE070 tyres

Bare in mind, whilst what Lauren is saying is generally true, some tyres are better than others and its always best to look at the spec for the tyre. For example, Yoko recommend 225 on a 7.5 rim for the AD08s... probably due to the stiffer sidewall.

    Increasing max rev limit safely.

To get an FA20 revving to 9k it needs extensive work. Not just to actually get it to produce useable torque at those revs, but also to prevent something breaking.

    Wheel and tyre weights

The OZ HLTs are flow rolled like the Weds sports I believe. Its a good compromise in terms of weight vs costs. Most of the OZ in the £1-£1.3k region are 7-9Kg for a 17x8 wheel. The Forgiata are just under 7.3kg for a forged 18x8.5

    Wheel and tyre weights

Fair enough, but the point is the better, but still not forged, wheels are alot more money and we dont even know if they are actually stronger. I am sure they are but we dont have data to prove it. Alot of poeple are tempted away from the Weds Sport TC105N (one of my fav wheel BTW) by the Rota Titans for half the money.

    OZ Ultraleggera (17x8, et48) 7.8Kg

Proper forged wheels are earth shatteringly expensive and overkill unless you are racing IMO. OZ superforgiata are a cool £5k. I share Smudges worries about cheap light wheels but I have zero actual data to back it up. Looks like Deacon has done the reasearch and they are okay. Are they as strong as Wedssports TC105N (not fully forged, just flow formed BTW) no, probably not but they cost £1600 for 4 wheels! I'd love to see some test data from a variety of rims to see the differences.
  16. Im interested! Have you installed it?
  17. Few people state side are running 8kg front and 9kg rear springs on the R&T Ohlins which they had revalved/shimmed.
  18. Aurok can add or remove shims in the damper to increase or decrease damping to match the spring to want to use.
  19. Yeap Partsbox have been sellnig the MI20 for ~£1700 without top mounts. Thats a real shame. I was hoping they would be cheaper so I could revalve them for 8kg springs.... The stock car has too much rebound damping at the front which makes it crashy on rough surfaces but very nice for the track.
  20. Well it will be more comfy but still should be a massive improvment over stock. How much are they now?
  21. The MI20 are valved for + or - 30% spring variation around 6Kg, so they will be reshimed to adjust the damping range. It will obviously be softer. 6kg is soft already for track use.
  22. I always thought there were two Ohlins R&T kits for the GT86/BRZ. SUS MI20 with 6kg springs and SUS MP20 with the softer springs. Is this not the case? Those spring rates are terrible.

    Project MangoNo5

Hi Chris. Welcome I agree with Lauren that the HKS GT setup is very understeer biased compare to stock. IMO they should be swapped! FYI stock spring rates are 2.3kg front and 3.7kg rear for the GT86 and 2.7kg front and 3.3kg rear fro the brz which is a bit more understeer biased than the GT86. Japanese coilovers often tend to be firmer at the front as the quick response at the front helps in Gymkana/autocross. Some people in the US are running VERY firm front sways for the same reason.

    New MX5

I do love the banter on this forum. Where would the world be without SpecK. I personally think the new MX5 is a bit soft looking. The original concept got me interested but they softened it up too much for me... I shall try one though... Nige on the Cosworth Engine Dyno Cell the stock engine came out at ~190hp. Don't ask me the exact conditions but I assume roughly 1atm pressure at 20-25C ambient. Abbey gets around 160hp at the hub on a dynapack, so 190hp sounds about right with ~30hp drivetrain loss.
