  1. Nige. Rumour has it Cosworth are going to release a pulley kit to unleash the full potential (~380HP) of the SC kit soon.
  2. I'm with Lauren. Stock power is perfect for british roads. On track days though it's not powerfull enough to be taken seriously. You end up getting held up on the corners and then getting left for smoke on the straights. It can be very frustrating.

    Cosworth Supercharger

Cosworth can be fitted to a stock exhaust or any of the exhaust combinations and comes with all the engine calibratinos to do so (plus a tune) all you need is the low temp thermostat and air filter to use the calibrations. Edlebrock confirmed directly to me, they havent done any track testing. Cosworth on the other hard, apart from detailed breakdown of the engine and testing individual parts to destruction (particularly the con rods), they did hours of of engine dyno tuning using dyno cells that were used to develop F1 engines. On top of that 10,000 road mile testing which included endurance testing on track. The heat exhangers are huge and thus have massive thermal capacity. So much so that charge air temps on the stage 2 kit are only 8deg C above ambient on track! Sprintex on the other hand overheats on one lap and most aftermarket kits, in my experience, cannot handle track/enduracne racing. Until I see evidence to suggest the harrop and edlebroack are okay on track I remain on the fence I know which one i'd pick for the sake of £500 though. HKS is the only other kit I would consider at the moment.
  5. Some of the induction kits can give you a bit more power simply because they mess with MAF sensor, giving the ECU incorrect airflow data. Usually the result is a leaner running engine. With a tune correcting for this, it negates any benefit. Air filter and be done. Cossy one is £32. Regarding lowering springs, generally there are two types: performance biased or Comfort biased. The performance biased springs tend to be a smaller drop and are working in the linear region once the weight of the car is sitting on them. Linear give a more predictable feel. The progressive parts of these springs are there simply to provide lowering and make sure the spring stays in the perch at full droop. Examples are Eibach USA springs (fensport sell these, 3.6kg front and 4.9kg rear) and RCE yellows 4.5kg front and back. Both these come with shortend bumpstops too as they are a must really. Stock struts come with big progressive bumpstops. Comfort biased lowering springs are usually too soft, resulting in hitting the bump stops during performance driving on rough roads and tend to be sitting in the progressive region of the spring under the weight of the car and get firmer very quickly as they approach full compression. Examples are Eibach Europe springs or Tein Comfort. FWIW the front dampers have too much rebound damping for rough surfaces so a bit more spring rate at the front is beneficial.
  6. I believe Cosworth can supply tunes for stock exhaust (stage 2.0), cat back (stage 2.1), cat back + plus mid pipe (stage 2.2) and full system (stage 2.3) inc manifold. Fensport are able to tweak the tunes for different exhaust systems. I havent bought an SC. I know its been ages but nothing tempted my hard earned cash until the cosworth kit came out in October. HKS is not for me, I want positive displacment otherwise I'd have the HKS any day. Its a great kit. I like the look of the Harrop and the Edelbrock kits but the heat exchangers seem to be smaller than the two on the Cosworth kit so if you can show data to prove they can handle track abuse without heat soak they will will be on the table. I do like extended >25min track sessions so it is very important for me. If the Cosworth is 10hp less, im not so bothered about that as I am thermal stability. Looking forward to see one of these with the ACE header too
  7. No he is not. Even the Cosworth website says it comes with a tune! None of this is new infomation. It has been avaliable since it was released in October 2014. Sorry to keep taking this off topic but I cannot let misinformation fly, especailly as a competing kit is being discussed. We wouldnt like Cosworth to be spreading misinformation about Edelbrock now would we. Got to http://www.cosworth.com/products/power-packages/fa20-platform/stage-2-power-package-range/ Download the FA20 Power Package Details and scroll down. You will see the attached image.
  8. To use the Cosworth validated tunes, you also need the Cosworth Air filter (£35) and Cosworth Low temp thermostat (£72). which adds another £107. You DO NOT need to buy stage 1.0 kit which includes a licence and tune (this is an NA tune not SC tune) as the SC kit includes that. You need the SC kit @ £4800 + £107 for filter and thermostat. That is £4907 total. Couple pages of info here from Fensport who spoke directly to Cosworth. http://www.gt86.org.uk/forums/topic/2129-new-cosworth-supercharger/
  9. From Fensprt website: • Cosworth calibration file & Ecutek license included
  10. Nope. Cosworth Stage 2 SC kit is £4,817.40 delivered and includes a tune and licence.... If you have a licence already, you can deduct £180 from that.

Looks like you were having alot of fun there Lee
  12. No it wasnt! The stage 1 has all broken up into bits but the cossy SC was always available on its own with a tune and licence for £4800 inc VAT. Im looking forward to some test results from this kit. Notably intake temps post charger when its been thrashed on track for 20+ mins.

    Changing discs and pads

On the road with spirited driving, the stock pads last fine. Mine are about 75% worn at 9kmiles which is 80% spirited driving. On track day I swap out the pads. so far I got: 2 track days out of project mu HC+ 800s 3 track days out of DS2500 now on project mu club racers for the track which are a more aggressive race compound. They need heat to work correctly. Discs are down to just under 23mm last time I checked.
  14. Yeap there are only a couple hypercars that come with dampers thay good. That lambo is one and the pangani zonda is the other I think. Not sure if they are adjustable though. The road and track dampers are a £2k upgrade on one of the renualtsports which is the fastest fwd production to lap the nurburgring.
  15. The 5200 are very tempting at £3600 Some info here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80007 Shock dynos look very good. I've heard some bad stuff about AST reliability, but I have zero experience with them.
  16. This hit the nail one the head. Anyone would think you know what you are doing Tim If you want to have leisurely tracks day and do a few TSS where you spent most of your non driving time chatting to others and enjoying the time, I think the ohlins are great. If you want to spend the time doing data logs, lap after lap making adjustments to perfect the setup, then you want more adjustability. Bilstein MDS info: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2315640 FWIW the exact same R&T Ohlins (same technology different rate of course) are sold as an upgrade to the £120k Porsche 997 GT3 they are that good.
  17. Yeah you can get the Ohlins for £1628 without the top mounts. I spoke to Aurok a little while back and they said Ohlins arnt planning on making as many top mounts and they add £1k to the price of the car. Can get ohlin ttx from Germany. I believe these were from a TMG CUp car http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ohlins-Racing-Fahrwerk-Toyota-GT-86-2-fach-verstellbar-/121024774904 The motorsport stuff needs fairly regular rebuilds and have a large damping range for a lot of different spring rates to suit the application. Its up the team/driver to determine the damping settings and spring rates. Yes Nige, Aurok can revalve the Ohlins if you want a different springs. Bare in mine you have about 25% room for different springs on the valving they come with. I know Racecomp engineering in the US have put 8kg springs on the Ohlins and they loved them. The AST 5100/200/300 are another affordable option (£2k-£4k) http://www.ast-suspension.co.uk/shop/shockabsorbers/5200?option=com_virtuemart&view=category&virtuemart_category_id=186&Itemid=786&select_item=139_185&select_item_139_185=140_186
  18. ah the WRC2000. I've love an imprezza P1 Yes I know but I love the Corolla GTI well actually the 4A-GE engine in it
  19. Nothing wrong with BCs. They are lower tech. Basic linear valving and no provision self correction as the oil heats so damping will be inconsistent. Ohlins at £2.5k vs the Penske £4k how much lap time improvement do we think we might see? I bet its fractions of a second in a 1minute. P.s. most people here have 5-6kg springs front and rear so the Ohlins are right there. If your car is lighter it will give higher wheel frequencies which is what really matters, not spring rate. Also thing about spring rates and grip. Lots of grip can be a right handful and many find a bit less all out grip is faster for them. e.g. massive 265 toyo 888s will take forever to get up to temperature whereas a 225 wide toyo 888 will hold more heat and actually have more grip in many circumstances. This problem can be exasperated with rock hard suspension.
  20. The ohlins are really excellent dampers. The triple bleed path makes for excellent high speed damping in both compression and rebound. Generally the spring rates are a compromise on track if you plan to use slicks or semi slicks. Since you dpnt have much experience with setting up multi way suspention (its easy to destroy a cars handling by setting it up poorly) and since you have the ohlins I would say try them as they are on track and sprinting and see what you think. Too much under or over steer can be corrected with rates adjustment of up to 25% on stock valving. You just need a spring with an i.d. of 2.5 inch and 8 inch long to fit the ohlins. If you feel after all that you want firmer, these damper can be revalved for some more track focused spring rates by aurok http://aurok.com/www/index.html If you still want something different, again since you don't have too.much experience with setting up multi way dampers, I'd suggest JRZ1 single way or the raceng/penskes single way that are on the way. You are looking at £3-4k imported for those. I would always take a one way over a two or three way for a given budget unless I had £7k to burn on the ohlins ttx or bilstien motorsport dampers. They would be wasted on track days though.

Project Mu brake pads - long term test?

Performance friction are popular as are EBC. yellowstuff might be worth a try. Cheap compare to project mu http://www.ebcbrakeshop.co.uk/toyota-gt86-20-20122013-ebc-front-yellowstuff-brake-pads-dp41884r_p23523335.htm Another thing to mention, I have found brake bias on the stock gt/brz is pretty good. I have messed a bit with moving the bais around with different pads and found the best feeling setup to be same compount front and back. I didnt record lap times but too much front just made the brakes overheat quicker, too much rear made it unstable into corners. This was on the primacies so could be different on the AD08R.

Project Mu brake pads - long term test?

I've gone through a set of the HC800+ on the front. They are excellent pads for track. I used standard dot 5.1 fluid and it took a 25-30minute session to boil the fluid, but no fade though. They will squeel like a dying pigs though after a few light stops. XP10 is a closer match to the HC800. I had them nicely bedded in and had no squeal. I drove 150 motorway miles to oulton park. By the time I got there all four wheels where very loud on light braking. I kinda like rolling up to a track like that! #because racecar! not so much if you need to pop to the supermarket though! Cold bite is okay. As long as you know you will need to apply a bit more pressure until they have some heat into them, and by heat I mean a couple medium stops for a round about, it doesn't take much. This could be worse in the winter. They were more dusty than stock pads, roughly equivalent to DS2500. They lasted me two track days (350 miles) and about 1000 road miles. I now have the Project Mu Clubracers (Hendy can custom order them if you want) in the hope I will get more than two track days out of them! I like long sessions, if I stuck to 10-15 minute sessions i'd probably get a couple more track days out of them. People in the US get anywhere between 2-5 track days out of these pads. I did have excess pad coumpounts on the disc after snetterton 300 which is the sign the pad is at its max working temp. Stock primacys at the time too. Cosworth trackmaster might be an option. Supposedly better than the DS3000! or the streetmaster, which are somewhere between the DS2500 and HC800 in terms of heat capability.
  24. Do you have experience setting up multi way suspention? When you say track work, do you mean sprinting or full on track racing? P.s. thats bad for Ohlins. They are usually top notch.
