I'm waiting on you mark to put together a resonably priced kit (that also fits infront of the Cosworth radiatior......) Mocal can do a custom thermostatic sandwich plates. I reckon 100C opening temp would be a ideal....

I dont think the lubrication system is good enough. Stock oil pressure is on the low side in the first place, probably to improve economy. I had oil up to 139C and Oil pressure (top gallery into the crank) was measuring less than 35PSI around Coram (Snetterton 300) at high revs. Element Tuning managed to damage a bearing (one of the middle ones fed by the single larger oil channel) due what points to low oil pressure. In the end they had an Oil accumulator, pump and modified the oil channels in the block to increase pressure. They ened up with soemthing like 80PSI at 9k rpms with 550HP.

Sorry, what I meant was that they are a bit soft for track junkies. They are a bit soft because they are aimed at daily road driving with the occasional weekend track day hence the road in bold. Rates are not high enough for serious competition or track junkies that want the absolute fastest lap times.

TTX range from £5k-ish on smaller cars up to silly money (not that £5k isnt!). They are not avaliable to the general public and TMG are not interest to sell them to anyone who doesnt buy a Cup Car from them. The newer version uses Bilstein motorsport dampers. I wonder if thats for cost savings.... I think the Ohlins R&T are very good dampers. Lovely digressive damper curves and good consistency but the spring rates are, well, road and track rates (for serious track junkies). I do wonder how they compare to the SRC if they were revalved to take 10kg/12kg springs..... Do you plan to track the Flex As?
-
Its definitly a positive. Have you driven or riden in a car on Ohlins R&T? I know they are a different price points but I just wondered how they compare for comfort. I know you know your suspension I've yet to ride in a GT86 on any Teins. (next trip to the US to see family I want to try to get a ride in a car with CSG spec SRCs ) The TMG Cup car was shockingly butter like over the curbs at Oulton Park. Not sure if you know, but that has Ohlins TTX with 10kg front and 12kg rear. If the SRCs are comparable then I will be considering a set of CSG spec!

Great stuff. The tein flex A's look very appealing at the price point. If I am not mistaken, these teins are height adjustable regardless of preload, so stroke length remains the same (assuming it doesnt foul on any bodywork!) Stock rates are: GT86: 2.3kg front, 3.7kg rear BRZ: 2.7kg front, 3.3kg rear

You need to apply more pressure at higher speeds to lock up that is true. So you have to gradually release the brakes to stay on the threshold of grip. In other news. Project Mu HC+ 800 sare not looking great after another trackday: After first track day: After second trackday: Would be okay if it wasnt for the eneven wear. I think I will try clubracers next.

Lightwight pulley has 5th order at 7k rpm and 6th order vibaration at 6krpms at >0.2 deg vibration angle is not good! Fluidampr has more vibations in the 5th-7th order in the higher rpms. I dont care if they are a small angle, they are still much bigger than the stock damper! You can use these graphs to determine total power of the vibrations, and I am sure by looking at those graphs the stock damper will win. Toyota/Subaru engineers have done a great job!

I dont think it would. KERS would not require batteries, which are what weight most hybrids down, it would most likely use a large capacitor(s). The Lexus hybrids use the motor power in combination with the engine to generate more acceleration.

Clutch bearing makes a noise as you engauge it. Mine has done it since new and it is perfectly normal. The problem with cars like the GT86 with very little sound deadening is that you can hear all the sneaks, bangs, whistles, pops and scrapes. Try driving over a rought surface..... I too quite like a rawness sometimes. Makes you feel like you are in a proper sports car
-
It would be very cool. As long as it doesnt weigh too much and gives a decent boost.
-
No thats me, I want KERS and a TURBO Knowone said anything about £25k or being realistic
-
KERS + Turbo

Original is about 1250Kg. The stripped out TMG cup GT86 weights about 1200kg in running order. It does have a roll cage though.

Using Race Render to add data to videos

CHeers for that Alec I'll have to try this out at the next track day. -
With the RCEs and KW V3s the top mount and bottom mount is fixed? All you have is the bottom spring seat? Instrcution here: http://www.racecompengineering.com/index.php/settings-instructions
-
Sorry, I meant move the lower seat down to lower the car. My mistake there. I am often wrong so here is a diagram to show what I mean by adusting preload to change the ride hight (but losing or gaining droop travel): 8mm vs 58mm droop travel Am I doing something wrong?
-
If you were adjusting the top and bottom seat together that would be correct ....but the KV3s/RCE Tarmacs you are adjusting only the lower spring seat. I.e you are compressing the spring more to lower it; adding preload. Its not ideal....

I know many people smack their face on the steering wheel after trying left foot braking.
-
Well not everyone wears their pads right down before trying a different compound
-
P.s. Mike that disc surface looks lovely but are they quite worn? Might be worth checking the thickness of the disc.
-
FYI Keith. Dont be surprised if the paint discolours on your K sports after repeated long track sessions. Painted calipers and dust seals just don't mix well with tracking the car. My stock dust seals are just a pile of, well, dust! Anyways, I digress. Mike go with your gut. Pads are cheap so you can always try a few different types.
-
My rear calipers are showing some signs of burning close to the pads but nothing like the front. Brake caliper specialists (same company smudge used to refurbish his sti calipers) sell high temp paint and they claim its better than the 300C foliatec. Might be worth a try. Personally I wouldn't ever recommend painting calipers to anyone that tracks. When I got the car 3 years ago it was going to be a fun daily and a had my eyes on a cateram track toy. Well now I work 2 miles from home it is no longer a daily and is turning into a bit of a track toy.

Sometimes you get ribbing. If you run your finger nail over the surface of the disc, you'll feel tiny ribs. They should look like a nicely bedded in set of discs of ther than that. Pads are designed to transfer some pads material onto the disc. The problem is when they get too hot, they transfer too much compound in an unevenly. Here's a pic on mine when they were badly juddering:
