The PC itself can be reliable but the graphically intense games often run terrible on mid range hardware. Far Cry 4 was terrible until it was patched..... I gave up and bought it on PS4. Runs equaivalent to Ultra settings, with added benefit of HRAA, 1080p res at a consistant 30fps. My pc averaged quite high fps but stuttered and coughed all the time amking for a terrible gaming experience. One of the difficulties programming for the PC is that not everyone has top of the range hardware or even the same hardware. With consoles, they can optimise and tidy up all the stuttering, because eveyone has the same hardware; they know if they fix stuttering in one scene it will fix it for everyone, wheras on pc it might not be a problem for some people and fixing it on one set of PC hardware can make problems for others.... its a right ball ache. Games on the xb360 could keep up graphically, with seemingly on paper, much faster PC hardware. It was all down to optimsations.

    I always fancied a Cossie.........

haha looking forward to seeing/ hearing about this kit... Are you having any other mods beside the cosworth stage 2?

    300 hp turbo+ £39000

    £18k mods sold at 60% value = £10,800 18month old car with 20k miles = £18k (private sale) With no engine warrenty -20% = £18k * 0.8 = £14,400 £10,800 + £14.400 = £25,200

The AP racing Formula 332x26 4-pot front kit fits under the stock rims perfectly.

    Brakes squealing!!!

Thats interesting Nige. I have a Merc with AMG brakes (cross drilled discs) and it too has rediculously dusty front brakes. I spend 2 hours cleaning the wheels and 5mins drive to undo all the work Lovely brakes though for a big car. I presume they put bigger brakes on the Boxter (relative to the gt86) so they can dissipate a bit more heat and use a softer compount.

    Brakes squealing!!!

I have to say props to Nige for his customer support and TGB for finding an alternative for those who dont like the squeek. We all have differing views as to just how much compromise a road going car should have. My view is the GT86 is a performance car so I shouldnt be quite as perfect as a Golf GTI. Everything is a compromise for performance, otherwise an F1 car with be as confy as a Bentley. >> It has no sound deadening to make it lighter but has a noisy ride on the motorway. >> It has performance pads that can squeek a bit, but you get better bite and fade performance >> it has a rough engine noise in the cabin, party becasue it revs and party the lack of sound deadening. >> It has a firm (ish) ride but not alot of body roll... >> It lacks grip becuase of the contract with Mitchellin to purchase 1 trillion tyres on the cheap... oh wait that makes the car fun! What Toyobaru could have done is simply fit bigger brakes with softer pads rather than trying to improve the performance of Imprezza brakes, but that would be expensive.....

    95 or 98 RON fuel

V power also uses 5% ethanol just like the Momentum99 Toyobaru - If you must use 95 for whatever reason, i'd just put enough in to get you to a shell garage and top it up with V power Nitro

    Turbo or Supercharger

The Cosworth Stage 2 looks to be the best well engineered package IMO. By the time you come to the point you are ready to purchase, there might be a few people with it fitted. I have my concerns with all the current FI kit but so far the Cosworth is the only kit I might consider fitting to my car. GPRM might have a supercharger developed/ in development too

    Steeps' GT86 (Cosworth)

I believe the Cosworth/nameless is 3" except for the over pipe bit which is 2.75" interesting that a decatted stock made 5hp. Thats not bad at all.

    Steeps' GT86 (Cosworth)

Steeps car IMO was not particularly loud and I would suggest the stage 1.2 (thoguh I havent heard it) with the Helmholtz Resonator in the front pipe will not be much worse. Its the Non-catted exhaust manifold on stage 1.3 that makes it seriously loud and this is true of most non-catted exhaust manifolds for the FA20 that actually make power. It was always going to be a compromise for cosworth to produce an exhaust system in stages. They would have had to make the cat back and front pipe very quiet (when used with stock manifold) to make it more barable with their super-duper mainifold. As a guess they probably assume only hardcore would bother with the mainfold as you dont see the gains on the 3inch exhaust until you are trying to go much higher in power (think 380HP the SC is capable of).

    New Cosworth Supercharger.

Not meaning to keep spamming this thread but Adrian, since the Supercharger kit includes licence and tune will you be selling the theromstat separatly? I can see the filter on your website but not the thermostat? It looks like it opens and closes at the same temps as the Mishimoto thermostat...

    New Cosworth Supercharger.

From the Cosworth website: "Package provides excellent throttle response at low engine speeds and a sustained performance increase even in demanding race track conditions."

    New Cosworth Supercharger.

Adrian that is exacty what I want to see! The post chargercooler temps being relatively constant expalins why torque doesnt drop off as much as the Sprintex at higher revs. This is turing into a dream supercahrger kit for the Toyobaru The big question is how consistent is the above graph after >20min track use?

    New Cosworth Supercharger.

Also to confirm. This kit uses a Eaton TVS900.

    New Cosworth Supercharger.

The Sprintex dyno graphs look great until it start sto get hot..... You don't see this on dynos but on track people have reported timing being pulled due to high IATs. Even someone with a 10:1 compression is seeing timing pulled during heavy track use. The would suspect that the Cosworth kit will be better designed to handle whatever you throw at it. The Intercoolers certainly look a lot bigger than the single one under the sprintex SC. Also worth noting that the Sprintex kit is maxed out with the 69mm pulley whereas the Cosworth Stage 2.0 is only at 70%. If in future if you have a built engine the charger is capable of >350HP with a smaller pulley.

    new Bugatti Veyron

On top ear they had to give it a 1 mile stretch to beat the Mclaren F1 in a strightline .......... On track it would be beaten by the 1991 hypercar....The P1 will chew it up and spit it out..... At around 2 tons its more of a lorry than a sports car....
  18. So many established owner jumping ship. I havent even got started on mine yet!
  19. My drive in the HKS GT86 (With a supercharger) I’m not one for words so I will be brief. It was a pleasure speaking to Maz. He clearly has a lot of interest in the GT86 and a genuine car enthusiast. The car as mentioned before has the High-Flow Exhaust, 18inch rims with 225s all round, the HKS suspension (I forget the model), an Oil cooler and the Supercharger Kit. Based on the Dyno, it suggests about a +42% increase in power. Putting it at around 280HP at the fly (Maz suggests about 260HP conservatively). First Impressions The suspension was firm but compliant. I was reasonably impressed with the ride over rough B-roads. What I was impressed with was the cornering. Now I am not sure how much difference the tyres make but the wheel/suspension combo on this car works very well. Turn in was very sharp with minimal roll and the car felt lighter. It would be very nice as a track car but not sure if I could handle the ride on a daily basis. It all depends on your personal preference. I drive a Merc C Class as a daily so I am used to comfort. The exhaust for me was far too loud. I would want something just a bit louder than the stock exhaust - especially with the sound generator deleted. The note however was nice, and cruising at 60MPH it was dulled down to the slight rumble. The supercharger was the main attraction for me and the main reason I went to drive the car. The car felt very quick particularly above 4k where it really comes to life. In 5th gear at 2.5k rpm it has notably more grunt that the stock car, picking up nicely. I would have liked the torque to increase more linearly as you can clearly feel when the 4k boost comes on. I would have like a constant, steady increase in torque as rpm increases. It feels a bit like the old Celica when the cams change over. I wonder if this will improve with development work. Through the gears the car felt like a proper quick sports car. I would estimate 5-5.5sec 0-60. Each gear felt as if you were in a gear below in the stock car. Power feels flat from about 5k-7k which the sweet spot for a centrifugal setup. The jury is out. I need to drive the other FI cars to make my mind up, but a very nice setup indeed.

    oil cooler

Whats improtant regarding oil temps/pressure is the top end of the rev band. When the car is at full temp on track, what is your oil pressure at 7krpm?

    oil cooler

The Toyota 0W20 oil is top stuff and very stable at high temps. Few things that should be pointed out when looknig at oil viscosity: 1) The highest number is the viscosity at 100C. It doesnt nessessaritly tell you what the oil is like at higher temps. Oils with less modifiers like 0W20 compared to 0W40, for example, will typically have better lubrication characteristics at higher temp despite the lower 100C viscosity. Plently of test data over on the ft86club. It mainly down to the modifiers burning up first. better to go for a 10W40 than a 0W40 in the UK. 2) Oil pressure plays quite big part in surface tension of the oil. If adding a cooler lowers temps by 20C but you lose 15PSI at the crank inlet this is not an optimal solution IMO. Might bo okay for a stock car, but if you have FI it could cause long term reliability issues as not only are you subjecting the drank/rod bearings to more torque, but also lower surface tension oil. Turbo owners beware, oil pressure rises with RPM and the low end torque of the turbo means you are subjecting the crank/rods to +50-60% more torque with lower oil pressures. This is one example wher the steady boost building characteristics of the centrifugals win.
  22. Just to follow up on this. I went back and drive the V2 HKS last week. Much smoother power delivery now and a bit more at the top. Great drive and the kit is routed much better now.

    oil cooler

Your theory is flawed and your getting a placebo effect based on your assumptions. There are too many real world variables that affect oil temps. Take the car to the track a try in with and without meth injection on the same day....

    oil cooler

I hit 128C oil temps today in 14C ambient. It was on a route I enjoy driving alot and I do thrash the car. I would think I could get it over 130C on a hot day. This is getting a bit high for my liking. ...
