    Hi There :)

Welcome to the forum Steve. A supercharged MX-5 sounds fun, glad the GT86 is holding its own.

Keith I have to spend the kids inheritance on something, so I thought I'd follow your shining example ;-)

    Winter tyres thread

I use Michelin Alpin 205 50 17 on a set of OZ rims I bought earlier this year. Good, predicable handling in the cold and wet conditions. Fairly quiet on the road too, which is a bonus. The temperature hasn't gone North of 7 degrees since I fitted them so I can't comment about their suitability in marginal temperatures. Running the car with 3 sets of tyres at different times makes interesting an comparison with the different compounds and characteristics. The Primacys certainly make driving entertaining when it's dry, but I hate them in the wet, rubbish on trackdays. The Toyo T1 Sports are very good in wet and dry conditions and a good compromise for the TSS and very good on trackdays. The Alpins give that extra confidence in cold and wet conditions, really good when it's icy. My 2p worth.
  8. Jay works for me, let me know when you want the cash.
  9. Overripe pipe! I think I meant overpipe, bloody ipad 'corrected' it!
  10. Jay I'll take off you hands, then I can get it fitted with an overripe when I'm at Fensport after Xmas.

    Hayward and Scott exhaust

Matt where in Norfolk can you get it to? Keith was singing its praises this afternoon, so I may have to scratch this itch.

Public Service Announcement - Winter Tyres

I store mine in a bike hutch by the garage, it holds my track tyres and Yeti winter tyres too.

    Toyo Tires

I use T1 Sports for TSS and trackdays, I find them very good for the price.
  14. I've got one of Jay's cameras on my car and the rear view is more than adequate.

    favourite tires?

I use Toyo T1Sport for TSS, pretty happy with them.

So I got a bit wound up...

Don't tell me you want a 'Whinging about other forums' section in this forum, isn't that as bad as a potential 'Whinging about sports cars' section in the other forum? Yes I'm winding you up. ;-) As there are at least 2 forums about GT86s, we should learn to play nicely together. Different strokes and all that... (No that doesn't mean w***kers) However I do agree that some people shouldn't have bought a lightweight back to basics sports car only to complain that it's lightweight and back to basics sports car, that's sort of the point really innit? Happy Saturday everyone.

    Winter tyres

I use Michelin Alpin 205 50 17 which behave perfectly and ice, snow and very wet conditions.

    Performance brake pads?

I'm running StopTech rotors and Ferodo D2500 pads at the front which feel really excellent. I'll get Ferodo rear pads as well before the Woodbridge Spint event. The brakes are fine from cold, but respond really well after a couple of hard dabs at speed to generate some heat.

    Changing discs and pads

I've just swapped my rotors and pads after giving them a lot of abuse last weekend at Snetterton. When I got the pads out there was almost zero pad material and some very uneven disks. I've replaced them with Stop Tech grooved rotors and Ferodo pads following the excellent guide from Speedy. I found a nice lump hammer loosened the old rotors, it's a pretty straightforward job apart from shearing one of the wheel studs getting the tyre off. It took just over an hour before I was out testing the results, not bad for a late afternoon bit of work. The brakes will take a little while to really bed in, but the initial results are positive. Thanks for a very good guide Speedy!

    F1 2014

It was a good start to the season, bodes well for the rest of the year. I especially liked the Mclaren 2nd & 3rd.

    Winter tyres

I agree they would be useless on a track day, I'd wreck them after 3-4 laps, but the Sprints are only one lap, which is why a winter tyre may have the advantage. It's worth taking them to the first event and trying them on the warm-up lap to see how they perform against the Primacys.

    Winter tyres

I'm using a set of Michelin Alpins 205 50 17 on some old WRX alloys, they make a huge difference in wet and cold conditions. I'm thinking they may make a good set of Sprint tyres in the TSS this year, great grip from cold and excellent in the wet.
