I think I'll scrub the miltek off my list and go with tuning developments instead and get the tips changed if I don't like them.
-
Twice is damn unlucky. It doesn't look too bad so long as the chassis behind the bumper is still intact.
-
Miltek actually state that you can fit the standard tail pipes onto their cat backs. Once fitted it's hard to tell that it's aftermarket apart from the slightly deeper note from it. A few people have said that a weld fails over time but can be replaced under warranty. Also I think they have revised the design to prevent this. Don't quote me on this as I've not had one but I also prefer the standard tail pipes rather than the thin jap slash tips that most make. Another option is tuning developments make a very well priced cat back that many have fitted to their cars and I'm sure anyone whose good with a welder would be able to make the standard tail pipe trims fit instead. Plenty of youtube videos out there to compare sound.

How come you can't run a front mount intercooler? Wouldn't that give more stable intake temperatures? If you're getting the engine rebuild with reinforced internals but not forged rods then are you considering new oem rods just incase the factory ones have any stress from the donor car use. I'd just be very concerned of the engine failing from the weakest part especially as you're running boost.

That's pretty cool. Do you need to service the air lift the same as regular coilovers. I guess the rubber bags will fatigue over time? Does it have bump stops? Do they weight less than a conventional coilover?

Nicely done Sam I can see you've been working hard in this heat. Can I get the link to see it airing out and going up and down? The noise when changing gear and accel and decel is most likely because you've changed the diff bushings as most people complain of this after they do this mod. So do the drop links adjust as the car moves up and down? That must be a limiting factor. Also where do you feed the airlines inside the car, because that must be a big hole you have to make? How much noise do the compressors makes, is it like a hgv air brake system that releases excess air every now and then? Finally can it lap the nurburgring faster now or slower 😛

Actually your right they don't need swapping, it's the sti brembos that do. If you use the bigger discs then it will balance the brakes correctly, but how easy would it be to source the right pads? I've seen this a few times pop up on USA forums: https://www.fastwrx.com/products/subaru-four-pot-two-pot-full-brake-upgrade-frs-brz

I'm not sure if the godspeed kit will also allow you to swap the bleeder over from trailing caliper to leading caliper on the 86. For aesthetics I'd say why not. Alot of the american guys run cadillac brembos because they want big brakes for looks. Depends on the uses of your car.
-
Probably most worthwhile doing when you need new rear discs and pads anyway.
-
Was this for aesthetics or to balance out brake bias?
-
That's a shame about k-sport not being in stock. Did they have a lead time for UK stock?
-
Do you have to swap to legacy discs? Will the caliper bolt straight on? Do you have to swap the bleeder over on the rear?

Sorry to revive another thread about brakes and track days. I feel exactly the same way @gavin_t. Just wondering what you decided and if you've had a chance to get on track with them yet? I mocked up my own master cylinder brace and can agree there is an improvement but only when you Bury the pedal. That's only road testing not track so I'm sure it will be far better on track. Easy to fit as well because you just need a wobbly extension to tighten the bolts up with the car on full lock.
-
There aren't many that sit over the top of the original badge but you replace it with some others that fit well. I'm sure there are some companies in the US and also in Australia that make custom badges for the 86. Subota boy has a cool one, and I've seen batman on someone's car. Sorry I can't upload my pictures because they are too big. Google is your best friend in this case.

Engineering explained on youtube is a good on the science of changing the offset but at 15mm your only going to improve the handling a little bit and pull the wheels out the arch a little which will improve the looks a little. I go snowboarding every year and on the mountains most people run winter tyres on aftermarket wheels and pretty much all of them have a bigger offset. Coincidence? I doubt it. As for the tuning developments kit, look out for black Friday offers as they have done this previously.

I might pop along to this as a spectator, so I'll look out for you all.
-
Sorry to revive an old thread but how did you get on with the new disc and pad setup? I'm looking at doing something similar soon as my front pads and discs are also worn out after a few track days.

Unfortunately not Kieth. 🙁 I'll pm you my number though, so it's easier in the future. -

Looks lovely as always Keith. Next time invite us locals to join you though. -
Saw it at japfest and thought the new vinyl design looks great. A take on the old ae86 btcc touring car isn't it?
-
Well I never saw that coming from you Sam but I say fair enough. Alot of development is going into air atm to make it more performance and track oriented. I'd be very interested in how the car feels to drive after its all fitted. I guess queue the 3 piece wheels and slow rolling shots dramatic video for YouTube coming afterward right?
-
Damn thats down right wrong! It which case I'd definitely swap the block for the early thick rod block. Can you verify with the engine number for the next one. This is of course after you've kicked the bin enough to vent your frustration over this.
-
Do you know what's actually caused the piston and Rod to come through the block. Is it the same as the fa20 where a torque spike can cause a hair line crack to appear and then its just a ticking bomb? Forged internals?

In case anyone is interested there will be a few of us meeting at Beaconsfield Services (HP9 2SE) on the M40. We'll be leaving here at 8am to get to Silverstone for 9am. I'll be travelling up from Brighton, West Sussex at 6am if anyone wants to meet along the way.

No just the cars parking area near the main entrance to the food court.
