The battery on a Yaris hybrid is 30kg including all the packaging/cables (20kg of NiMH batteries), using Li-ion would increase the cost but halve the weight and space required. The rest of the weight on the Yaris (about 25kg) is from the electric motor and using a bigger engine (1.5 over 1.33). Citroen are using these systems to make the DS5 a 4WD car on their flagship models and Honda used it in their CR-Z model to make a small eco coupe (but used the Jazz platform to keep costs down at 17k). I know the GT86 is supposed to be a drivers car, but introducing a hybrid model could open it up to a much bigger audience for those who either wanted more hp, more low end torque, better mpg, less tax (not that it really makes much of a difference when paying more for the car) and saves unicorns in the London CC zone! Also if more grunt is wanted it's still possible to supercharge with hybrid tech, increase battery capacity or increase electric motor power. I would honestly consider trading in for a new one if they went hybrid.
-
Toyota have been using the tech for years in the Prius and Yaris to reduce emissions, the first Prius was launched over 10 years before F1 even started using the tech. Given the Yaris/Auris hybrids are 1-1.5k more than their non hybrid models, for 3k over list for a more powerful motor/capacity seems fairly reasonable to create a hybrid sports car. If you can stick KERS in a 15k hatchback for the daily shop for 1.5k I'm sure they could find a solution to giving the GT86 more grunt with the same tech for not much more.
-
Wouldn't mind a KERS system to have that bit of boost when desired (hide the dip maybe?), but more than happy with the performance when going for a B road blast

It also means if you're hiring a car abroad you will need to apply for a code within 72 hours (was going to be 24 hours originally) of hire to allow the hire car company to view your digital license to check for points/endorsements.

Competition Time! - Toyota Sports Day 2015 - 20th June
Steeps replied to rob275's topic in News & Updates
It really is a school sports day when everyone's a winner! -
Can't break, got 16 months left on the car to pay it off and I'm fortunate to be in a position where I don't "need" a car but for a weekend toy it's quite expensive. Budget has gone on track days for this year and more for next year while I still have the car. If by some miracle what I'm working on now takes off then the Cosworth SC could be on my car in 24 months time, but it seems a shame to only have stage 2.1.

Competition Time! - Toyota Sports Day 2015 - 20th June
Steeps replied to rob275's topic in News & Updates
Looks like it could be fun, but I still have nightmares about sportsday which I don't want to re-live. Also a note for calendars, 21st is TSS at Woodbridge with a track day available on the 20th. -
It's a bit unfair to say it's a rebranded Nameless system, it was designed by Cosworth and Nameless were chosen to produce the system for them which is why both names feature. The Cosworth designed system can't be bought from the Nameless store, and looking at their 3" systems it's a similar price to what's already available from them. The 2.0 kit apparently is good for 380bhp with internals, but the package they sell out of the box is supposed to be a "one size fits all" kit that is designed to be reliable, how well it works with the autobox which in SpecK's thread they reckon is only good for 260bhp will be interesting to see. In a way I'm pleased it's expensive, it means I can't afford it all so my wallet is safe

I'm up for it depending on date Don't worry James, I'm not that competitive either but that's due to pies. Indoor tracks I usually suffer on as the corners are slower.
-
If it's only lightly modified Aviva came up tops for me from comparison site searches, paid less than £300 for the year with 3 mods declared.
-
My Cosworth map was installed, logged then left to it with no changes.
-
Filled up tonight, light came on at 260 as usual and filled up at 300 as I've had too many roundabouts, could only put 43 litres in. Could easily have done another 30-40 miles on it.
-
Light usually comes on when there's ~10 litres left in the tank (1/5th). Light for me typically comes on at 260 miles and I fill it at 320 or whenever a convenient Shell comes along, depending on driving habits at the time.

Toni's new Giallo meet. Saturday 21st March 2pm Nr St Albans
Steeps replied to Lauren's topic in Social Meets
Just seen how close this was to the last St.A meet, I think I can make some time for this -
Well he's parked in a clearly marked bay, they shouldn't have drawn a chalk box there!
-
I've charged a phone off mine while I had the radio on so it should work fine
-
Once you get above 50mph you cannot slow down or it will explode!
-
Would love to get your opinion on it once fitted, mine was the first stage 1.1 that Fensport did but I'm not going SC until I've had the car 3 years.
-
Few photos from the meet, great venue and food was pretty good too. As my car is no longer a "daily" I've made an effort to use "shortest route" with the satnav instead of quickest to try out some quieter roads. I'm 30mins late everywhere I go but the roads are a lot more fun! Found this village on the way back which had a nice muddy hole to take some photos in:

How long would you expect to have to wait for spares?
Steeps replied to Twigman's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
I'd be fuming too, especially when it's for a service you are paying them for that requires doing to satisfy the safety of the car, your insurer's requirements and your own sanity. It's not like you can respond "sorry there's a delay in my payment to you, on my system the funds were there but now it's going to take 2 months for me to pay you, I hope that's ok. Sorry the computer lied." They'd take you to court for that! I'd be insisting on a hefty discount and a courtesy car (not so hefty if the courtesy car is like for like) for the delay. -
Very cheap shot, they don't want to ban them they just want to paint them yellow. What about the ones on the gantries? No use painting them yellow because they're hidden behind a sign.
-
Just the steak & ale pie for me please
-
Yup, just get it booked in for a free replacement from Toyota, mine was on charge for a couple of days and came up as "Replace Battery" on their test. Was only kicking out 10v up to 93A.
-
If it's still on the original battery it could be faulty, a few of us have had them replaced under warranty. Mine struggled to keep a charge over 5 days and had it jumped/pushed three times. Dealer swapped out the battery and I've had no issues since.
-
Where about was it found? (so I can avoid that area), Fantastic news to hear it's been recovered.
