I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use it on an aftermarket unit. I would love to be wrong, but I have a Pioneer unit, and one of the downsides is it doesn't have automatic volume correction for speed. In a car like the GT86 where road noise can be intrusive, this is pretty annoying - I find myself often adjusting the volume for road speed. If anyone knows a solution, I'd be grateful, but I don't think there are many aftermarket head units which support it.

I've just been reading that thread, but it seems like in one of the latest responses (last 30 mins or so), it's been confirmed that the springs which failed were from the original faulty batch, not the replacements being placed in cars under the recall. Or have I misread?

They are, but I went over several of them in the car park, all sounded the same. On the way home, I purposefully drove up a road near my house which has normal speed bumps, and it sounded similar. But I took it along the same road this morning to confirm, and it sounded fine. Car feels totally fine otherwise, so I'm just gonna have to keep an ear cocked and hope it was a one off or something.

Spoke too soon. Although the engine sounds fine, I had to pop to the supermarket earlier. It's one of those car parks with the aggressive bolt down speed bumps...the kind you have to crawl over as if you're mounting a kerb. As I did, the I noticed a distinct noise coming from the front suspension, a kind of squelchy clonking noise...not metallic though. It definitely wasn't there before going in for the recall. Anyone know what suspension parts might have been affected by the recall? I think they remove the anti-roll bar and the drop links, but it's not that kind of sharp clonking noise. Sounds like something's loose. Engine mount maybe? But then, the car still feels fine, I thought a loose mount might have resulted in vibration. I'll have to ring the dealer in the morning, but I guess it won't be dealt with until after Christmas. How annoying 😕 EDIT: Was on the very verge of ringing the dealer this morning, but before I did, I thought I'd check the wheel nuts (they were fine) and take the car for a quick run and replicate the noise again. Went over several speed bumps, and....nothing. Noise seems to have disappeared. So not sure what the hell caused it. So I'll just keep an eye on it and see if it reoccurs. Cars 😕

Cross-posting from other forum... Picked up the car today. Recall done, plus full service, spark plugs and a new clutch. Cant say the engine feels or sounds any different, perhaps a tad smoother. New clutch feels good - same pedal weight, but engages a bit better now. I was convinced on the way home that something was wrong with it, but it was just a consequence of having just climbed out of the courtesy Yaris. They also tightened the handbrake a bit, which was handy. It had been a little slack since I did the rear bearings and I intended to take a look at it at some point, so that's one job I don't have to bother with now No problems so far. I'll be driving up to my parents at Christmas, which is a couple of hundred miles, so that should highlight any issues.

Yup, the ticking noise is a common issue. Stick your head in the boot and look up. You'll see some small gaps in between the panelling and frame, held together with spot welds. It's these which cause the ticking noise as they flex. Squirt some silicone grease in between those gaps. I did it just after I bought the car years ago...ticking noise hasn't come back since.

You can unclip the top of the brake light and remove it if you unplug it from its connector in the boot. However, the legs can't be removed without taking out the whole shelf and drilling them off. But you are able to remove the shelf with them in place by bending it. There's a guy on the GT86 Drivers Club Facebook group who was selling a kit to lower the brake light (I assume he's on these forum too) and he made an excellent video showing you how to fit it, which includes detailed instructions for removing the shelf from the car...you just have to be a bit heavy handed and bend it a bit. I'm keen to see if my local Esso station does this. I usually stick to V-Power of Tesco Momentum 99 as the car is remapped. However, both these fuels contain ethanol - which is what makes the fuel pump noisy (crickets). Esso Super unleaded is 97RON but apparently has no ethanol, and gets rid of the crickets, so if they also start matching the RON rating of Shell/Tesco, happy days.

Watching with interest....currently have a Pioneer AVH-X5800DAB which I bought off another member. But my girlfriend recently upgraded her car to something with built in Android Auto, and it's spoiled me, so I wants it, precious. What I can tell you though, is that any double din unit will need a fascia, as the stock unit (for the GT86 at least) is slightly wider than double din standard.

For sale, 1x McGard Locking Wheel Nut set 24152 SU (M12 x 1.25, fits GT86/BRZ, may fit others too). Used for about 2 years, but good condition, no signs of corrosion that I can see. Includes original packaging. £20 inc. delivery. Located in Rochester, Kent.

Do they support dimming OK? I think some LED bulbs have trouble with dimming.

Indeed. I know the TOB seems to be a weak point on these cars; mines a little noisy at most, but it would be nice to have a fresh one installed.

As per my reply on the other forum....for some reason I had it in my head that Exedy did an aftermarket clutch which was cheaper (or at least, no more expensive) than the OEM one, which is why I thought it might be a no-brainer. But I was wrong - so an OEM should be fine.

Finally phoned up and have got my car booked in to Beadles Medway on the 14th. Been a bit worried and had a few concerns, but the girl on the phone gave me the details of the service manager, so I sent him an email asking about including servicing, clutch, spark plugs, etc, as well as informing him about my modifications. I also thought I'd be blunt and ask about how many recalls they'd done due to the issues other owners have been having. He phoned me back within 30 minutes and we've just had a chat about it. They've done between 10-20 recalls he said, and so far, only a couple of cars have come back for minor oil leaks and such - no catastrophic failures for any cars they've worked on. Which has put my mind at ease a bit. Should be getting a full service and new spark plugs at the same time. I've enquired about a clutch, but I am going to let him know, as I'm considering whether it's worth going for an aftermarket replacement. I don't plan of adding any more power, but I've been told putting in an Exedy clutch would be a good upgrade. Any opinions would be welcome - I don't want to do anything that will feel any different.

Trying to arrange it so that the recall is carried out around the time I'm due for a service, but I'll be planning to come back to you in January for MOT/alignment anyway. Mind you, I tried arranging it like that last year and they never bothered to get back to me.

Almost exactly a year since I had my first recall letter, another one arrived with me yesterday. I need to contact the dealer to arrange everything, but given that no one ever bothered getting back to me last time (despite three chasers), I'm guessing that things will be even slower given the pandemic situation. Is this true? If so I would be much happier taking my car to Abbey. Only lightly modified, and as per previous posts in this thread, Beadles Medway appear to have handled several recalls already, but I'm wary given the amount of failures experienced.

I remember that guy, and that thread. Unless his car was an absolute Friday afternoon special, I think he went a bit overboard and got obsessive. He even added padding to the external plastic cover for the rear towing eye. Even if that did rattle, how on Earth would you be able to hear it over road and exhaust noise while inside the cabin? He claimed he could, but I don't buy it. By all means, have a crack at reducing creaks, but don't let it consume you too much, OP. Remember too, that if you start pulling trim apart, you might introduce more creaks and rattles. You can buy anti rattle tape fairly cheaply on Amazon, might be worth picking up a roll for taping wiring, trim edges, etc.

Well, I've just replaced the front bushes, and it seems to have cured the problem. Took it for a drive again, no unusual noises over speed cushions, nor when I manoeuvred while parking outside my house. Only issue (aside from it starting to rain while I was working) was that I managed to strip one of the bolts which holds the metal clip encasing the bush to the sway bar frame (the part which bolts to the chassis).Because the clip doesn't go down flush, as you're crushing the bush, I managed to cross thread the bolt and didn't notice until it was too late and I had a socket on it. Luckily I managed to find a similar size bolt and nut in the garage to replace it with, which seems to hold okay. If it doesn't, I'll have to find a replacement frame somewhere. But still, prat 😕 Can't say I've noticed any improvement in steering response, although I went with OEM drop links.

Cheers. I've ordered a set off importcarparts.com. Don't have an impact gun, but I do have breaker bar, so looks like another little job for next week. Where do you get the rear bushes? I found the front ones, but not the rear. I ordered a pair of OEM rear drop links, figured I may as well do the lot.
