No, looks like I didn't do enough research as found after the fact there's issues with OEM mic and aftermarket HUs. Looks like I need to open it back up and connect the mic that comes with the HU.
-
Installed a pioneer sph230dab according to a similar guide on here on installing a pioneer. Great increase in audio fidelity however I've managed to bork it and the microphone doesn't work now. I say 'ok google' and the assistant comes up (usb android auto) but It doesn't register speech input. Not sure which connector runs the mic or which adapter id need to plug in as there weren't any spots left on the HU to plug in spare cables. Anyone faced something similar?

Workmanship at Milton Keynes / Bedford dealer

I'm in Milton Keynes area, and have had my car in and out at Steven Eagell Milton Keynes for several months for warranty work (air con, windows scratching, door seals, failed heated rear windscreen)... I'll be going to RRG Macclesfield, it's directly next to Peak District so will book a few days off and make it a mini-holiday, tear around the country roads a bit before and after. After my warranty ran out, I've been going to my local independent car garage as opposed to Steven Eagell. Absolutely zero confidence that they won't create more problems taking it apart, and then refuse to accept it's their fault. -

I did look in the warranty and maintenance manual here: https://www.toyota.com/owners/resources/owners-manuals/86/2017 I know it says 2017 but doesnt go back further. The maintenance grid for spark plugs shows that, have a look and let me know if im being dim and reading it wrong! To be honest still might wait until the engine has done some miles before swapping but did have a look so i could complain to SEMK for telling me to change them.

I did just check the maintenance manual as had a convo with Lauren at JAE about this as Im coming up to 6 years but will on 22k currently. Manual does say 60k miles or 60 months, whatever comes first. There are youtube vids up of people doing it themselves, ill be checking those out. Avoiding steven eagell MK as much as possible.

Would be interesting to see, got my dyno results around still, let us know once youve got it sorted, happy to post my for conparison. Good points on the cost breakdown as well.

Can speak from personal experiencefor TDs NA package. I got their UEL manifold. It is a lot of money but so worth it. The car is so much more responsive, such a joy to drive. The UEL noise is addictive. As above its also the ecutek license, having the car dyno'd and mapped properly, and the small extra bits they do. I also got an intake hose and gear bush and springs at the same time, really nice addition for shifting. If youre thinking FI at some point in the future, it reduces that price as well through them. Theyve also done so many of these they know exactly what they're doing and you can trust them with your car which was a big thing for me. They thought they detected some untowards vibration in the steering and took the car back in the double check everything for me.

£129 for the 1234y gas isn't too bad. Tried to get my local garage to do it and they said costs too much to get a canister in. Milton Keynes Steven Eagell charge £240 for the 1234y re-gas.

Insurance time of year! suggestions?
Nosupersuit replied to infernouk's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Same position as you, with Admiral currently and phoned as putting TD NA on the car shortly. They said they can insure the car but any non-Toyota parts aren't covered. So it raises the premium but they won't cover in case it's damaged. Doing the rounds on the brokers while I have some time on Saturdays. A pain but if the mainstream insurers won't cover the extras then pretty pointless and the slight extra from the brokers becomes worth it when they cover the £s you spend on extras. -
Anyone had any luck sourcing replacement keys outside of Toyota? Close to 400 quid takes the biscuit slightly....

Thanks for the advice! The car hasn't gone in for a recall for steering harness so using them for that but have a garage who I trust who I'd go to for most of the work that I'm not willing to try myself! Thanks! Definitely game to come along and get involved

Been after an '86 since I saw them come out, finally got in a position where I could get one and I have! Grey '13 plate on only 17k miles. Read around loads prior to buying and had a few concerns, but the test drive settled all my worries. Engine sounds excellent, the 'torque dip' and 'underpowered engine' weren't an issue (Coming from a 16yr old Volvo my bar wasn't particularly high anyway!) but had such a massive smile on my face driving home and haven't really begun to use the car fully. Couple of cosmetic issues to iron out but excited to make this car mine! Can say that the stickied list under "What to look for when buying a used GT86/BRZ' was really useful. Walked in knowing more about the car than the garage and helped drive the price down, thanks!
