It definitely is a bit of heavy handedness to justify aftermarket mods saying the car is not good enough as is. For most people in regular track days, they are out for a bit of fun and a bit of learning. Very few are professionally competing and if they are, a track day is not for them. If one wants a BBK for a very specific reason like they are forced induction or compete professionally and need to go longer before breaks etc, it makes sense but otherwise not. @tubbytommy you do seem to have the my way or highway approach. Very curious as to how many medals adorn your living room showcase on your competition credentials? If you do, I become your fan as you speak with experience and have delivered. If not , keyboard warrior. @Lauren you and Kev are experts in TSS and opinions are valued. Just not worth generalizing as people like me do 2 track days / year and to better myself , not compete , so can live with 15 min track times then cool off brakes. So a BBK is really not worth for most GT86 owners. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

Tyres definitely are the most important but having said that , if you add another variable to it, temperature, the tyres mentioned above will not be as good at reducing braking distance below 4 degrees C as a good set of winter tyres and also most high temp brake compounds work well when warmed up not cold. So brakes + tyres + temperature determines the best stopping distance. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

Money aside , I fail to see the value we get with it and when I asked to explain what extra do i get except android auto on a bigger screen as i still can pair my phone via bluetooth/aux cable for audio and use android auto on my phone, he/she did not have a convincing answer. Hence putting it out there to see if there are capabilities/features that I am missing Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

I had a pm exchange with the seller and was quoted £ 300 as a forum discounted price for upgrade to android auto. For that price I do not see value as you can buy aftermarket Pioneer or kenwood ones with better features than OE and better audio output. Curious what other benefits am I missing for this price. Thoughts, anyone? Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

Thank you. Is there no easy way to let the car do its thing by setting it on auto cruise control to manage MPG? I would rather not change my driving style with a heavy right foot 😀

Nice review. Thanks Lauren. This has always been in my mind as a family car of choice while the GT86 remains my car to work and back. Your review makes it look promising. May be the C-HR too if it gets the engine as the interior looks a bit more funky . What was your MPG on motorway/work driving? 47.1 while pushing it hard makes me think it will be 60+? How does it compare to a diesel in terms of motorway MPG as these are supposed to be at their best in stop / start crawling city traffic but not so much on the motorway as mile munchers.

It will not work on a stock exhaust as it's a different connection to axle back. It will potentially only work with TD backbox. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

These are all the rage on the other side of the Atlantic but if you ask the main tuners here , Mark -abbey, Mike -Tuning Dev, Adrian - fensport, they will not really vouch for them but only Ace (and Rogue (Very similar design to Ace) and JDL old manifold /TD (very similar design). Not sure why the other manifolds don't give same results here, different fuel quality, different weather, tune etc. Unsure. Have a look at this video just for reference Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

All the best. Just 2 more days to go. Put your dyno chart up and am sure you will love the drive back home. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

As@deacon has said, there are really only those 3 manifolds that have proven ability to eliminate the whole torque dip. Rest all do it to certain degree and not the best result here in the UK. You have done it the right way in some ways , now with an exhaust + manifold, you have the least restriction and can get the best outcome of an NA tune. With 1 cat , you will pass your MOT in the initial years for sure. Not sure if it has a long term risk as the CAT weakens. It is a good investment and if someone wanted 1 mod that gives the best NA performance gain, then this is it. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

As they say , every little helps and impressive that torque went up by 5% . I might be tempted to go down that exhaust route. How much extra did Mike charge to retune? Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

Did you get the car back on the dyno and get a retune after the cat back fitting? And if yes could you please share your before after. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk
-
Yes it is fully compatible with stock and you will get all of the power gains and eliminate the torque dip . All you will miss is the UEL beat which is easily done later. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

Some additional advise, If your car is stock and all you are doing is cat back exhaust, you can go for a louder exhaust like TD res, not super res and still have subtle enhancement. When you go with a catless manifold, res becomes loud as sound insulation by 1 cat is lost and people advise super res. Turbo makes your exhaust generally quieter than stock as well, so think through whether this is your only mod or the beginning of a journey and where you want it to end up making it future proof. Thanks. Looks really good. Makes it look like a Volvo screen, if you just ignore the buttons and knobs! Did you need loads of connectors to get it to work or simply plug and play?

The head unit looks massive. What make and model is it? Is there an audio quality change just with the unit or did you change the speakers or add an amp? Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

Thank you Jeff. It's very interesting. Auto Express, Evos sister company has in this weeks magazine done their tyre test and Asymmetric 5 come in at 3rd place with Falken Azenis and Nokian Powerproof getting number 2 and 1 respectively. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

1. Insurance is not needed as unlike track days, you are all alone driving it. Cant give away everything but rest assured I was like you before, safe than sorry. 2. Tyres- Primacy 3 is technically the replacement for HP, so not hugely different, just a bit better. When you have a tyre go ( puncture/ sidewall) and have no spare wheel in boot, such choices need to be made based on instant availability in that tyre shop/ roadside assistance. Good news that across the axle your tyres have same wear as with an LSD it is particularly key for the rears. Overinflate tyres to 45 psi when there to not damage your sidewalls and you will lose about 1.5 mm tread on the day. Definitely don't go with brand new tyres. Hope this helps. @mart86 which FI did you go for. It seems right for a turbo but for a roots, centrifugal one , you will lose more mpg , even if driving gently. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk

To reiterate Spikyone's statement, the old readings were as per NEDC and hence higher. The new readings are as per WLTP and when it was launched the road tax slabs were also changed to reflect new CO2 calculations. I think WLTP was implemented in Sept 2017 and all manufacturers had to comply and universally MPG went down. Some websites still have the old NEDC values while others have WLTP. Well done to claim it under warranty. I thought about it a couple of times. The pipe next to it is clamped using butterfly clip. Just this one is not and vacuum should hold it. I thought about putting a cable tie and left it thinking at least this is proper warning that I was going backwards in a forward gear and the safety system has protected the engine. My theory, not validated by a master technician [emoji12] Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk
